The University of Lisbon is partnering with Rock in Rio Lisbon 2026, which takes place on 20, 21, 27 and 28 June, as a University Partner, forming part of the Smart City of Rock initiative – a collaborative ecosystem where technology, creativity and innovation are tested in a real-world context, in a temporary city that welcomes around 100,000 visitors a day. As part of this, ULisboa will bring to the festival research, innovation and entrepreneurship projects developed within its faculties and research units, demonstrating the university’s contribution to addressing the challenges facing the smart cities of the future. Mobility, health, sustainability, technology, engineering, biotechnology, sport and creativity are some of the areas represented through interactive experiences open to the public. ULisboa’s participation in Smart City of Rock also includes the presence of start-ups with the University’s DNA, which will have the opportunity to test their prototypes in a real-world environment through the ‘living lab’ spread across various points within the festival grounds. Ciências ULisboa will be present with the following projects: - Agrovoltaico (CIÊNCIAS innovation project): a solution that combines photovoltaic electricity generation with plant and animal production and smart irrigation systems; - BinBot (CIÊNCIAS innovation project): an autonomous robot that collects litter at large public events - Phair-Earth (CIÊNCIAS spin-off): a solution combining physical and AI algorithms to predict extreme weather events - AquaInSilico (Tec Labs incubatee): software for the efficient management of wastewater treatment plants and similar facilities - SATO (CIÊNCIAS innovation project): a platform for smart energy control and management in the home - CityPark (Faculty of Sciences innovation project): integration of data from mobile devices and sensors to generate relevant indicators on cognitive and motor functions, supporting both self-monitoring and clinical decision-making through user-friendly dashboards - Boxing for the visually impaired (CIÊNCIAS innovation project): an inclusive
