[Image: Newsdesk] The University of the Western Cape’s existing entrance cameras have been used to test facial recognition, according to technology supplier SAFEZA AVA-X, with security watchlists and cardless access among the possible future uses discussed.

In its published case study, the company describes a five-day pilot across three entrance video streams.

“The facial recognition functionality performed well during the POC, with accurate identification results and a very low incidence of false readings.”

Its case study also states that the pilot did not produce error rates broken down by demographic group.

The case study presents watchlist identification as a potential application, rather than confirming an operational campus-wide list.
