Waymo autonomous vehicle hit in crash, 1 hospitalized with minor injuries

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Video captured the aftermath of a crash involving an autonomous Waymo vehicle and another car over the weekend.

Officers were called to the area of West Sunset Road and Polaris Avenue on Saturday. Waymo said a fully autonomous Waymo vehicle was traveling in Las Vegas when the vehicle behind it lost control, struck the Waymo and crashed into a pole.

Police said one person was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, Waymo said, "The data to date, spanning over 220+ million fully autonomous miles demonstrates that Waymo is improving road safety with 94% fewer serious injury-causing collisions compared to human drivers in the cities where we operate."
