Volvo Autonomous Solutions and DSV Launch Autonomous Freight Operations Between Dallas and Houston Volvo Autonomous Solutions and DSV have initiated autonomous freight operations between Dallas and Houston, according to a report from FreightWaves. Volvo Autonomous Solutions, referred to as VAS, is deploying its Autona/freight solution for DSV. The Autona/freight platform integrates the Volvo VNL Autonomous truck with self-driving technology developed by partners Aurora and Waabi. The operations run between Aurora's terminals in Dallas and Houston and are directly integrated into DSV's existing logistics flows on a depot-to-depot basis. This initiative is part of a broader effort to incorporate driverless technology into large-scale logistics networks, with both companies planning to expand to additional lanes over time. During the initial phase, a safety driver will remain in the vehicle, consistent with Volvo's current operational protocols. The depot-to-depot setup is intended to help both companies build operational experience before scaling to more routes. Helmut Schweighofer, CEO of DSV Road, stated that autonomous driving is moving toward real-world operations, describing the collaboration with Volvo in Texas as a production, depot-to-depot setup. He noted clear opportunities to improve safety and driver comfort, help mitigate a growing driver shortage, and enable better asset utilization through 24/7 operations for customer benefit. Sasko Cuklev, head of on-road solutions at VAS, emphasized the strategic importance of logistics providers as a customer segment. Cuklev said that logistics providers like DSV represent an important customer group for Volvo Autonomous Solutions, and that DSV is at the forefront of applying autonomous transport in real logistics networks. He added that starting between Dallas and Houston, the companies plan to move freight in a way that supports round-the-clock operations and creates a scalable foundation for adding more lanes over time.
