Volvo Cars’ update to the XC40 touches nearly every part of the vehicle, from the shape of its headlights to the artificial intelligence assistant riding in its dashboard.
The bigger addition, though, is under the hood of the software itself: the XC40 will be among the Volvo models equipped with Google Gemini, the AI assistant built for natural conversation rather than rigid voice commands.
A Denser Sensor Suite Behind the Safety Gains Volvo’s safety pitch for the refreshed XC40 rests on a new sensor and software platform that gives the car a considerably wider view of what’s happening around it.
That approach has become central to how Volvo differentiates its vehicles from competitors that treat a car’s capabilities as fixed at the point of sale.
Production of the refreshed XC40 is scheduled to begin later this fall, with customer deliveries expected to start in early 2027.
