Waymo launching fully autonomous service in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Waymo announced it will soon launch autonomous service in Las Vegas.
Rider-only trips will start with Waymo employees in the Las Vegas area, including the Strip, according to Wednesday's announcement.
Service will expand to the public in the coming months.
Las Vegas is one of four cities where Waymo is launching fully autonomous operations, along with Denver, San Diego and Tampa.
Riders in Las Vegas will also be among the first to have access to the Ojai, a new vehicle that features elevator-like doors, an expansive cabin and digital personalization.
Waymo, which is a subsidiary of Google's parent company Alphabet, already offers full commercial service in the Phoenix and Los Angeles metro areas.
Las Vegas has become one of the nation's hotbeds for autonomous vehicle testing.
Aside from Waymo, the Amazon subsidiary Zoox offers commercial rides around the Las Vegas Strip and other nearby points of interest.
Autonomous carmaker Motional said it would also partner with Uber to offer commercial robotaxi service.
