A crash involving a Zoox robotaxi on the Las Vegas Strip is drawing renewed attention to how driverless vehicles detect hazards and respond when something unexpected happens on the road.
The Zoox vehicle and another car were involved in a crash on the Strip.
UNLV professor Brendan Morris, who studies autonomous vehicles, said a crash by itself does not explain what went wrong.
At the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Four Seasons, remnants of an impact could still be seen, though the Zoox robotaxi involved appeared to have little to no visible damage.
“Yeah, what's nice about these autonomous vehicles is that they are collecting data from all around at all times,” Morris said.
