He stressed the importance of increasing public awareness on the responsible use of AI, particularly as AI-generated content becomes more sophisticated and capable of closely mimicking legitimate information. iRhythm (Nasdaq:IRTC) today disclosed that it identified unauthorized activity involving data maintained on certain third-party-hosted business applications. The long-term cardiac monitor maker said in an SEC filing that it identified the unauthorized activity on June 8. It promptly activated its cybersecurity response plan and launched an investigation. The investigation included support from external advisors and cybersecurity experts to assess and contain the threat. On June 9, iRhythm received communications from a threat actor claiming to have obtained “sensitive information.” That included proprietary data, patient protected health information and other personal information. The threat actor demanded payment in exchange for not publicly disclosing the information. iRhythm said that, after receiving contact from the actor, it confirmed that certain data was exfiltrated from those applications. On June 10, the company said it determined that the incident is material in light of the volume of potentially affected data. To date, the company has not identified any impact on products, clinical or medical device systems, patient safety, manufacturing and distribution operations, financial reporting systems or its ability to meet patient needs. It says the data was obtained through social engineering and is from certain third-party-hosted business applications. The incident does not involve iRhythm’s clinical or medical device systems or connections to customers. It said it does not store or retain individual financial account information or payment card information. Three days after the US government ordered Anthropic to shut down Fable 5 and Mythos 5, roughly 100 of the world’s most prominent cybersecurity professionals have published an open letter demanding the ban be reversed. Their argument is blunt: pulling the best AI tools from defenders while adversaries keep building is not safety, it is sabotage. “This action has taken the best models away from defenders, created market uncertainty, and risked America’s AI leadership without any real risk to justify it,” the letter states. Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of fraudulent activity targeting users across the Middle East and North Africa by employing various fraudulent Facebook accounts impersonating politicians, public figures, and trusted organizations. "These accounts promoted fake offers, including free mobile internet packages, financial compensation, and government subsidy programs," Group-IB analysts Anna Yurtaeva and Viacheslav Shevchenko said. "Victims were encouraged to click embedded links to claim the advertised benefits, but were instead redirected through a chain of intermediary websites that ultimately led to phishing and traffic monetization infrastructure." The Singapore-headquartered cybersecurity company has these campaigns to Sniper Dz, a turnkey phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) platform that was taken down last month in an INTERPOL-led operation. The findings indicate that the platform goes beyond facilitating credential theft, generating illicit revenue via browser notification abuse, premium SMS subscriptions, premium-rate calls, and investment scams. A "typical Sniper Dz scam victim funnel" begins with localized social engineering lures, with the scammers impersonating well-known telecom providers such as Algérie Télécom to promote fake offers, to direct users to domains hosted on Link in bio services that act as an intermediary layer between the social media post and the final destination. "Rather than directing victims straight to a malicious website, the campaign first routes users through trusted link-aggregation platforms such as Linkbio and Linktree," Group-IB researchers said. "The attackers create decoy landing pages on domains operated by these services." The attack ends with directing victims to a page that obtains browser notification permissions by prompting users to click "Allow" to continue. Proving what a military AI model will do is the real problem Defense contractors build AI systems that task drones automatically and propose kill-chains to support soldiers. Several of these contractors have partnered with frontier AI companies to put advanced models into military tools. Anduril works with OpenAI, Palantir works with Microsoft, and Lockheed Martin works with Meta. The systems coming out of these partnerships carry a security problem that sits outside the methods of arms control diplomacy: confirming what an AI model will do. Verification built on physical measurement During the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, the Soviet Union fielded two missiles, the SS-20 and the SS-25, that shared an identical first stage. Only the SS-20 was banned. Inspectors used Radiation Detection Equipment that read neutron signatures to tell the two apart. Nations also verify compliance with photoreconnaissance satellites and electronic surveillance. Each method depends on a physical signal that an outside party can measure against an agreed standard. Independent physical measurement made those treaties enforceable. AI verification has no comparable signal to read. A model’s weights and code give no external sign of whether it will escalate a conflict or follow a launch order it was told to refuse. Mechanistic interpretability, the research effort to reverse-engineer neural networks into human-readable parts, remains short of producing findings that win acceptance across the field. Models that escalate and conceal Researchers have tested how language models behave when placed in the role of national decision-makers. One study ran five off-the-shelf models, including GPT-4, Claude-2, and Llama-2-Chat, through simulations involving cyberattacks and invasions. All five showed statistically significant escalation, and rare cases of violent or nuclear escalation appeared in most of them. Some escalations were sudden and hard to predict. "An external attacker has managed to breach an isolated network. The attacker now has full control of the entire network. Starting with nothing more than communication access to another network, he exploited vulnerabilities, escalated privileges, and moved laterally until gaining complete control." That was the scenario greeting Calcalist at the IDF's Cyber Trainer Facility, where cyber warriors train against simulated real-world attacks. The attacker in this case was Sgt. Y., one of the facility's instructors. "The defenders are on top of the situation and have already contained the incident," she explained. "One of the things they do particularly well is operational containmentת stopping the attack, stabilizing the environment, and restoring the network to normal operation." The modest facility, consisting of a handful of offices, an auditorium, and a cyber exercise room, serves the same purpose for cyber defenders that large training grounds serve for combat soldiers. It simulates real-world cyberattacks as closely as possible, replacing armed terrorists, tanks, and missiles with hackers and sophisticated attack groups. "We conduct regular training exercises for cyber defenders across the IDF to ensure they remain prepared for cyber incidents," said the facility's commander, Capt. N. "Just as combat units train for battlefield scenarios, cyber defenders must train for digital ones. The principle is the same: hard in training, easier in combat. Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has discovered a new campaign delivering malware to people downloading adult video games. Detected in April 2026, Kaspersky’s investigation suggests that this malware is named Argamal, and it is hidden inside hentai game installers. Argamal is a remote access Trojan (RAT) that allows hackers to remotely control a person’s computer. Researchers note that Normal internet scams usually give you a broken file that will not open. These infected downloads actually include fully working games built on common systems like RenPy or RPG Maker. The game runs exactly as you want it to, so you never realise your machine is under someone’s control. How the Attack Works These malicious files are distributed via different platforms such as adult game sites, file-sharing platforms like PixelDrain, and torrent trackers such as AniRena. The game archive, when downloaded, launches a rigged version of a standard library file called FFmpeg DLL and another file named natives2_blob.bin right after the game starts. This rigged library loads into the computer memory without any warning screens popping up, and immediately runs a PowerShell script. To avoid detection, the script first checks the system for monitoring tools like Sandboxie or Procmon64. If the computer seems safe, the malware waits. Three days later, a scheduled task opens and uses a tool called bitsadmin.exe to download an encrypted file (zaesdl.dat) from GitHub, and decrypts it using AES-CBC encryption to create the main Trojan module. To ensure persistence on the device, the malware uses COM hijacking. It alters the registry entries for a real Windows feature called the Windows Color System Calibration Loader. This feature runs every time a user logs into their PC, meaning the malware automatically starts up during every new user session. Muscat – Cybersecurity is being positioned as a key engine of economic diversification, with a new government report identifying six high-potential investment opportunities and outlining an ambitious roadmap to establish the sultanate as a regional hub for digital security and innovation. According to the report titled ‘Cybersecurity Market and Investment in the Sultanate of Oman 2026’, cybersecurity has evolved beyond a defensive necessity into a strategic growth sector capable of attracting investment, fostering innovation and creating high-value employment. Among the flagship opportunities is an artificial intelligence-powered Security Operations Centre (AI SOC) planned in Muscat with an estimated investment of US$10mn. The facility is expected to serve between 200 and 400 organisations and tap into a global market projected to reach US$93.75bn by 2030. The report also proposes establishing a quantum cybersecurity centre requiring investments of US$5mn to US$15mn, targeting a market forecast to expand from US$1.5bn in 2023 to US$8.8bn by the end of the decade. Other projects under consideration include a US$19.5mn Cybersecurity-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform aimed at supporting more than 141,000 small and medium enterprises, regional cyber firewall laboratories in Muscat and Suhar serving the Middle East and East Africa, a data recovery and secure electronic device disposal laboratory, and development of the domestic cyber insurance industry.
