Figures Abstract Background Ensuring medication safety requires accurate identification of antibiotic packaging, especially within pharmacy automation and dispensing systems. Advanced imaging and machine learning offer novel avenues for physical package recognition. Objective To investigate visual and textual features of antibiotic packages and evaluate their relationship with identification outcomes using unsupervised learning and efficiency-based analysis. Methods Thirty-six antibiotic formulations from Thailand (2016–2021) were analyzed using binary imaging, entropy metrics, packaging area ratio (PAR), and optical character recognition (OCR). K-means clustering was applied to segment package groups, and data envelopment analysis (DEA) was used to assess relative efficiency without assuming predefined functional relationships between inputs and outputs. Results Nine distinct image clusters were identified. Packages with mid-range entropy (7.1–7.5) and PAR (1.2–1.45) were associated with higher identification consistency. Delhi Police has identified as many as 2,873 people with previous criminal records who were present at the Jantar Mantar protests, official sources said on Monday. According to the sources, the police exercise relied on facial recognition systems installed at and around the protest venue. The AI-enabled system compares live CCTV footage with existing criminal databases and dossier records maintained by different district police units and law enforcement agencies. The verification exercise comes following the crackdown on protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party’s march to Parliament on July 20. At least 989 individuals have been previously involved in heinous crimes, 101 in murder, 62 in attempt to murder and 284 in robbery, police sources said, adding that at least 61 people were earlier involved in cases of rape, six were booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and 25 others for molestation. They said the initiative was aimed at identifying people with previous criminal involvement and assessing the nature of individuals participating in or moving around the protest site. The police, however, have not given any clarification on queries related to protesters being harassed at the site allegedly by their personnel, including those in plainclothes and not wearing name tags and some who allegedly harassed women during the march to Parliament. “The analysis showed that among the 101 people linked to murder cases, 42 were involved in two or more criminal cases, while 12 have criminal histories involving 10 or more cases, suggesting repeated involvement in serious offences,” a senior officer said. There's no end in sight to the pandemonium surrounding the Pokémon trading card game, where a single boxed product can be resold for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. The hobby has proven so profitable that people line up outside stores days ahead of a new release. Trading card robberies are a weekly occurrence. For a family-friendly corporation like The Pokémon Company, this heightened state of affairs is horrible PR. To combat this dilemma, the makers of the Pokémon TCG are adopting increasingly strict measures meant to curb resale vultures. Earlier this year, The Pokémon Company began requiring customers in Japan to provide government-issued ID before purchasing trading cards at official outlets. The system has not left Japan's shores, but it also does not appear to be a temporary experiment. More recently, The Pokémon Company announced that five pop-up shops in Japan would soon begin using facial recognition technology for customers of elementary-school age or older. The company states that facial recognition is meant to ensure customers cannot revisit stores or make additional purchases. If the system determines the customer is trying to bend the rules, "entry will be denied to that person based on the system's judgment," the announcement reads. The new system will be employed for the Japanese release of the Rayquaza-themed Storm Emeralda set that will be simultaneously released on Pokémon TCG Pocket. Customers who refuse this type of surveillance will not be allowed to enter the stores at all. Trading card fans can leave the store and reenter by necessity — like, for example, to use the bathroom — but store employees must be informed first. Nintendo has announced the rollout of a facial recognition system and new entry and purchase rules for its Pokémon stores in Japan. It's not exactly a last-ditch effort, but it's yet another attempt at combating scalpers which have been plaguing the hobby ever since its inception. "In order to provide a safe and secure shopping environment for all customers, to prevent crime, and to ensure compliance with appropriate entry and purchase rules, we will be using a facial recognition system to verify the identity of customers," The Pokémon Company has explained in new guidance (via IGN). The only exception to this will be Children under elementary school age, so preschoolers, up to six years old. This is to help manage the one-time limit per day rule where people are only allowed to enter and purchase from a Pokémon store once a day to help ensure more players get access to stock. "If the system detects that the same person has entered the store more than once in one day or received more than one entry ticket, and a notification (alert) to that effect is displayed on the screen, entry will be denied to that person based on the system's judgement." Unfortunately, the decision has been made for fans: the Pokémon Company declares that "your acceptance of this system's management and your agreement to these rules are conditions for entering our store" so if you don't want to get your face scanned you won't be getting any Pokémon cards. I joined GMP officers in the town centre to see how live facial recognition was being used to identify suspects and protect the public, with several sex offenders identified. As part of Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) Operation Avro, a "day of action" was held across Oldham on Thursday (July 23), targeting crime through a mix of enforcement activity, community engagement and new technology. Earlier in the day, I had accompanied the force on a raid, in which a cannabis farm was uncovered in Fitton Hill, and attended a traffic stop checkpoint where an illegal bike was seized, and new technology was used to test for drugs. After that, I headed to the town centre to see facial recognition in action, and the impact it has. Two live facial recognition (LFR) vans were parked in Market Place in the town centre, one outside Rhode Island Coffee and the other outside Costa Coffee, as part of the force’s wider clampdown in the borough. Inside one of the vans, Sergeant Lockett explained how the technology works. The cameras scan the biometric features of faces in real-time and compare them to a watchlist uploaded to the van’s computer system. If there’s a match, the system alerts officers, who manually review the footage to confirm the identification. Sergeant Lockett said: "So, if you walk into the detection zone and you're not on the watchlist, then the camera takes a biological template of your face, similar to your fingerprints. "If you're not on the watchlist, it will delete immediately, within, on average, 0.2 seconds. "We get a lot of people saying 'oh well, it doesn't really delete though does it?' Police are appealing to the public for sightings of a 31-year-old woman reported missing for two weeks from the Bay of Islands.
Zhane O’Neill-Harvey, 31, was last seen on Monday, July 13 around 1.30pm on Opua Marina but hasn't been seen or heard from since.
"While the photo of her is a recent one, we have information she may now be wearing a burqa-style covering, fashioned from clothing," a police spokesperson said.
Officers were eager to reunite O’Neill-Harvey with her family, who were worried for her safety.

We are asking the government to meet our demands. We have no ill intentions, so why fear? We need a better education system." Ravi, 22, a Delhi resident at Jantar Mantar, spoke these words while standing among students, many of whom had covered their faces with masks and glasses, a day before Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday (July 25). Ravi is young and full of energy. He appears not to realise that even a complaint against him can later create problems in securing a job, obtaining a passport, or gaining admission abroad. The students at the protest site told India Today Digital they were not trying to attack anyone. They had hidden their faces to protect their identities from Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered facial recognition cameras deployed by the Delhi Police at Jantar Mantar. Exactly a week ago, on July 20, thousands marched under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in the Chalo Sansad protest. The agitation grew out of the NEET-UG paper leak. The protest turned into a confrontation with police last Monday. Delhi Police's facial recognition system units and mobile surveillance vans at Jantar Mantar were looking at every face walking into the protest site. Thanks to advances in AI, popular calorie-tracking apps can now use a photo of a meal to estimate the nutritional content of what you're eating. Although these apps are convenient, a new study found that four photo-based apps underestimated the calories and fat content of meals by about a third. Photo-based calorie tracking uses AI image recognition to identify foods in a meal photo and estimate portion sizes. This information is then compared with nutrition databases to calculate estimated calories and nutrients. Photo-based calorie tracking apps are very popular, especially for people trying to manage their health or lose weight. However, the accuracy of many of these apps has not been thoroughly evaluated. Our study helps address this question by looking at whether these apps can reliably estimate calories." Abstract Wafer-scale and low-voltage operation are essential for practical artificial vision hardware. Here, we report a wafer-scale platform for artificial synapse and logic gate circuits with a yield exceeding 91%, utilizing coplanar self-aligned-gate (SAG) organic transistors that combine the narrow-bandgap semiconducting polymer DPP-DTT with a self-assembled monolayer dielectric. Coplanar SAG electrodes effectively suppress parasitic effects due to the reduction of gate-to-contact overlaps, enabling uniform transistor operation at low voltages (-6 to 2 V) across the wafer, delivering a high rectification ratio of 2.46 × 105. Under near-infrared illumination, the devices exhibit efficient phototransduction and reconfigurable modulation of synaptic plasticity between excitatory and inhibitory modes, with an ultra-low energy consumption of 5.28 fJ per event. In addition, minimal circuit configurations enable electrically driven NOT and NOR logic gates circuits as well as optical-electrical hybrid-input NOR logic operations, enabling maximize and simplifying the functionality of photosensing logic circuits. Furthermore, an artificial neural network constructed based on the SAG transistors further demonstrate the potential applications in handwritten digit recognition with a recognition accuracy of ~96% and image memory behavior. This work provides a scalable and effective path for developing low-power artificial synapses to neuromorphic artificial vision systems. Abstract Although macrophages are a powerful cell-based platform for cancer immunotherapy, their antitumor functions, such as phagocytosis and inflammatory responses, are limited by the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Here, we show that decorating cancer cell membranes with bacteria-derived pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) initiates phagocytosis and inflammatory responses of macrophages toward cancer cells involving various pattern-recognition receptor signaling pathways. Bacteria-derived PAMPs were formulated into membrane-decorating nanoparticles, and these nanoparticles reprogrammed immunosuppressive macrophages into inflammatory phenotypes. Cancer cell membrane-attached PAMP nanoparticles maintained their immunostimulatory responses, stimulating macrophages’ antitumor functions. The fraction of phagocytic macrophages significantly increased when coincubated with membrane-decorated cancer cells, along with an increased secretion of inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Transcriptomic gene ontology analysis revealed that the response of macrophages to PAMP-decorated cancer cells resembled their response to bacteria, involving signaling pathways including inflammatory response and innate immune response. In a mouse model, locally injected membrane-decorating PAMP nanoparticles suppressed tumor growth. The therapeutic effect was more pronounced in combination with the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin. Median survival days significantly increased in both the PAMP nanoparticle and the PAMP nanoparticle plus doxorubicin combination group with complete remission cases, compared to the doxorubicin group. Our findings provide insights into the use of macrophages as a cancer immunotherapy modality.
