Air taxi services are expected to grow from six initial states this year to multiple urban and rural areas by 2030, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Advanced Air Mobility National Strategy.
“By 2035, there will be advanced air operations with exciting use cases, including fully autonomous flight,” the DOT predicts.
To date, the focus has been on pilot training and infrastructure investments, such as vertiports and charging stations.
As advanced air mobility projects take flight, the industry will need to prepare regional airports, according to MBEP.

Dive Brief: Texas cities can no longer ban manufactured housing outright under a state law that went into effect Sept. 1.
Approximately a third of the state’s more than 1,200 cities need to update their zoning codes to comply with the new law, according to a Texas Manufactured Housing Association analysis earlier this year.
But local zoning regulations prevent manufactured housing from gaining traction in some cities.
Texas cities must also identify where manufactured housing is permitted on their zoning maps, according to the Texas Lawyer Referral Service.
“America needs more housing, and manufactured housing is part of the solution,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said in a news release this summer.

Turkmenistan has proposed a Smart Cities Diplomacy initiative to promote cooperation between Central Asian countries and South Korea in urban development and infrastructure.
In education, Turkmenistan proposed new forms of cooperation between educational institutions of Central Asian countries and South Korea, including dual-degree programs.
Turkmenistan also proposed a Roadmap for intercultural youth exchanges between Central Asian countries and South Korea and a “Young Talents” program.
Meanwhile, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov is paying a state visit to South Korea and taking part in the first Central Asia-Republic of Korea Summit in Seoul on September 16-17.
Turkmenistan also expressed support for Seoul's K-Silk Road initiative, which South Korea presented as its comprehensive strategy for expanding cooperation with the five Central Asian countries.

Hyundai Motor Group is exploring opportunities in smart city, mobility and energy businesses at Alatau City, Kazakhstan's largest new-city development project.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 17th that it had signed an agreement with Kazakhstan's private investment firm Caspian Group and financial and investment company United Group Alatau to pursue the Alatau City project.
Alatau City is a new city being developed across 880 square kilometers north of Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city.

In the inaugural Intelligent Cities Index 2026, released by global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG), the city state of Singapore ranked highest in Southeast Asia and 11th globally.

Rising utility rates are creating affordability pressures that could eventually constrain municipal finances and credit quality, according to panelists on a recent S&P Global webinar.
If fewer homebuyers and businesses choose to move to cities where utility rates are high — shrinking the tax base — those cities could have less money to pay for utility infrastructure costs, said Sarah Sullivant, S&P sector lead for Americas public finance.
“We’re seeing this dynamic playing out where utility rates are high compared to household income,” she said.
While utility rates may pose a threat, affordable housing and sustainable debt for public transportation and facilities in underserved communities are bright spots, Sullivant said.
This growth has helped boost the sustainable debt market, said Alan Bonilla, S&P director of sustainable finance.

Faridabad was among the 100 cities that the Narendra Modi government chose to develop and improve through its Smart Cities Mission (SCM) urban renewal programme, launched in 2015, by providing efficient services, robust infrastructure, and sustainable solutions.
