Pedestrian killed by a semi-truck in North Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A pedestrian has died in North Las Vegas on Thursday morning.
North Las Vegas Police Department officers were dispatched at around 9:33 a.m. to Lone Mountain and Lamb Boulevard and found a 32-year-old man struck and killed by a semi-truck.
According to police, the semi-truck was turning northbound onto Lamb when the pedestrian was crossing Lamb on the north side of Lone Mountain.
The driver of the truck did not see the man and struck him.
The driver remained on scene, and impairment was not suspected.
This crash is currently under investigation.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111.
Nevada Department of Transportation says all lanes on Lamb and Lone Mountain are still blocked.
Drivers are advised to use other routes.

Tesla Cybercabs launch in Austin AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla has deployed its new gold-colored Cybercabs in Austin, now picking up passengers through the company's Robotaxi app. Tesla's Model Y robotaxis are already driving passengers around the city, but the Cybercabs are Elon Musk's latest debut of upgraded autonomous vehicle (AV) technology. Unlike the Model Y robotaxis, Cybercabs have no steering wheel or pedals. There is also no back seat or back windshield; the vehicles seat just two passengers. How safe are Tesla's Cybercabs? Dr. Kara Kockelman, a transportation engineering professor at UT Austin, says there is not much of a safety difference between Tesla's robotaxis and Cybercabs. "They're both amazing vehicles, incredible safety design, have sustained very well during extreme crashes that we've seen," she said. When asked if she'll be looking to catch a ride in a Cybercab, Kockelman responded with a resolute "absolutely." However, she says passengers might still opt to ride in a Waymo if they are looking for the most comprehensive safety features. "Waymo would be the safest because of the redundant sensors and software it has on board," she said. "It has the light detection, and it has more cameras than the Teslas do. So it's a more expensive vehicle and maybe a more complex vehicle, but it's able to make better decisions under all sorts of lighting conditions and weather conditions." She says the lack of a steering wheel and pedals means that passengers must rely on safety systems built into the Cybercab software in cases of emergency. Tesla published a form on Thursday for businesses interested in buying Cybercab fleets or providing infrastructure for its network, the latest sign that the company’s aspirations for its gold-hued autonomous vehicle stretch beyond being a robotaxi operator. The robotaxi interest form, which was released ahead of the company’s Cybercab event in Austin, is not definitive proof that Tesla will sell its autonomous vehicles to third-party operators. But it’s certainly an indicator of where the company’s longer-term plans lie. Tesla wants to scale and it doesn’t seem to want to do it alone. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has talked often, and for years, about building a massive fleet of low-cost robotaxis. But in the early days, those dreams centered on personally owned Tesla vehicles. As early as 2016, Musk spoke publicly about a future in which Tesla owners, equipped with self-driving software, would be able to earn money by renting out their vehicles. He stuck with that Tesla network idea for years, noting at the company’s Autonomy Day in 2019 that it would allow owners to add their autonomous vehicles to its ride-sharing app, similar to how Uber’s business model works. “I feel very confident predicting that there will be autonomous robotaxis from Tesla next year — not in all jurisdictions because we won’t have regulatory approval everywhere,” Musk said in 2020. Uber and Wayve today launched supervised autonomous rides in London, marking the first time autonomous trips are available in the UK. Starting today, Londoners requesting an UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort may be matched with a Wayve ride at no extra cost, with upfront fares shown in-app. Riders will be able to travel anywhere within London, apart from airports. Initially starting with a small number of vehicles, riders will have the option to accept or switch to a non-AV ride before the car arrives. Riders who opt for a Wayve ride will travel in an all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicle equipped with the Wayve AI Driver, as well as surround sensors. Riders can unlock the doors and start the trip from their Uber app. The initial launch phase features supervised autonomous rides, meaning a trained and TfL-licensed private hire driver is onboard to oversee the trip. Uber customers in London can boost their chances of getting matched by opting in via the Trip Preferences section of their Uber app under Settings. Over 140,000 Londoners have already opted-in. Headquartered and founded in London, Wayve has built and specifically trained their AI technology on the capital’s challenging roads since 2018. Wayve’s "AV2.0" approach utilises an AI Driver that learns from experience, much like a human, allowing it to scale and adapt to complex environments without relying on traditional HD maps or hand-coded rules. This launch is part of Uber and Wayve’s partnership, which included an investment to put Wayve-powered vehicles on the Uber network in 12 markets around the world, beginning with London. At the moment the UK fare for a robotaxi ride will be the same fare as a standard UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort journey, with upfront fares shown in the app. Taking a self-driving ride will only appear as an option in the app after the journey has been booked, and if one of its cars is available nearby. Uber's global head of autonomous mobility and delivery Sarfraz Maredia said the plan was to phase them in over a period of several years. Waymo launched its paid robotaxi service on Tuesday in Denver, San Diego and Tampa, extending the Alphabet-backed operator’s fully autonomous ride-hailing network to 14 US cities. Tens of thousands of riders in each city had already signed up before the service went live, the company said. Denver’s service area covers 59 square miles, San Diego’s spans 47 and Tampa’s runs across 44 — a combined 150 square miles of new coverage. According to Waymo, more riders will steadily gain access in the coming weeks as each market works toward an open service. “From coast to coast, we’re focused on making everyday transportation safer, easier, and more accessible,” the company’s Chief Marketing Officer Suzanne Philion stated. Tampa Welcomes Second Operator Tampa became the latest US city where both Waymo and Tesla operate commercial robotaxi services simultaneously — after Dallas, Houston, Miami, and Orlando. The Elon Musk-led company expanded its unsupervised ride-hailing service to Tampa and Orlando in July, making the Florida market one of the latest markets where its Model Y-based robotaxis carry paying passengers. Waymo’s Tampa geofence is nearly double the size of Tesla’s, however. According to geofence data shared on Monday by X user and Tesla shareholder Sawyer Merritt, Tesla’s Tampa service area covers roughly 24 square miles — compared with 44 for Waymo. The two companies operate on fundamentally different technical architectures. Waymo Ojai vehicles are equipped with 13 cameras, four lidar units and six radar sensors, with no human behind the wheel.
