Claiming ‘class-leading’ back-seat space and headlined by a tough new ‘XRT’ trim, the ‘all-new’ Tucson has made its debut Hyundai has unveiled its new-generation Tucson medium SUV overnight, showcasing a physically larger, roomier, radically restyled and potentially hybrid-only successor. Now entering its fifth generation, the new Tucson is expected to arrive in Australia sometime in 2027 and will likely follow its competitors and the larger Palisade in becoming a hybrid-only offering, as local regulatory pressure ratchets down on heavy-emitting petrol-only powertrains. The model shown overnight has been presented exclusively for the South Korean market, and differences could appear when it’s shown to the global market next month, but it’s fundamentally expected to remain the same. Once it arrives in Australia, the Tucson will compete against the likes of the Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, Tesla Model Y and the GWM Haval H6. Measuring 4700mm long (+60mm), 1905mm wide (40mm+), 1685mm high (+20mm), and with a 2785mm wheelbase (30mm+), the already fairly large medium SUV has grown larger again, to achieve what it claims is “best-in-class interior space”. It comes as cut-priced Chinese competitors such as the Haval H6 double down on back-seat space, with the rear headroom of the new Tucson growing by 29mm and even the angle of the rear doors has expanded from 73° to 83° to make getting in, and fitting child seats, even easier. The current 1.6L turbo-petrol hybrid ‘plugless’ drivetrain is expected to make its way into the new-generation Tucson, but it’s unclear if it will be more efficient or offer a plug-in hybrid stop-gap between it and the all-electric Ioniq 5. □ A research team led by Senior Researcher Bongseok Kim of the Future Mobility Research Division at DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) has developed a “low-complexity receiver technology” that can simultaneously perform data communication and detect surrounding objects using automotive radar. □ In the fields of autonomous vehicles and connected cars, “Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC)”—a next-generation mobility technology that enables vehicles to detect (sensing) their surroundings while simultaneously exchanging information (communication) with other vehicles or road infrastructure—is essential. However, conventional approaches require multiple signal processing units as the amount of data to be transmitted increases, making the system more complex and dramatically increasing the computational burden. □ The team led by Senior Researcher Bongseok Kim achieved a breakthrough in addressing this challenge by applying the “Fractional Fourier Transform (FRFT)”—a mathematical technique for precisely analyzing complex signals whose frequency changes over time—to automotive radar receive signals. The team devised a method that concentrates dispersed signal energy into a single point, enabling more efficient data extraction. Consequently, communication information can be identified quickly and accurately using only a single receiver processing structure, without requiring a complex arrangement of multiple signal processing units. □ The research team conducted experiments by simulating a 77 GHz automotive radar environment involving high-speed driving at 240 km/h and complex radio wave reflection conditions. The results showed that the proposed technology delivered significantly more stable communication performance than conventional approaches while simultaneously improving both target range measurement and detection performance by compensating for radar signal spreading. □ In particular, even under adverse conditions of moving at high speed in environments with severe multipath propagation, the technology measured distances with an error of less than 1m and achieved a target detection rate approaching 100% when a sufficient signal level was secured. In this week's Legally Speaking, Attorney Ken Denos with Acadia Law Group says your car may be selling you out to insurers. Here's the part most people don't realize: you don't have to download anything for this to be happening. Ken says a lot of newer vehicles are already collecting this data straight from the car itself. Connected car technology has been standard across most manufacturers for years now — so if you're driving something built in roughly the last five years, there's a real chance your car has been quietly logging your driving habits and handing them off to someone else, whether you ever downloaded a single app or not. So, how do you protect yourself? Ken says to check your vehicle's connected-services settings. Most automakers let you opt out of location and driving-behavior data collection through the car's infotainment menu or the manufacturer's companion app, even if it's not obvious or well-labeled. Also, you can ask your dealer or manufacturer directly, in writing, whether your vehicle collects and sells driving data, and to whom. If your premium jumps for no clear reason, ask why. The range-topping EV3 GT delivers 288 horsepower from a dual-motor AWD setup with exclusive sporty design elements inside and out, starting from $45,890. Lincoln Will Phase Out Chinese Imports

Ford and Lincoln are seen as American brands. Still, like other global automakers, Ford and its luxury brand build vehicles globally and then import them into the U.S. Starting in 2030, Ford has plans to increase Lincoln production in the U.S. and stop importing luxury vehicles from China. The move, in Ford’s words, will help strengthen the automaker’s position as “America’s No. 1 auto producer.” Currently, Lincoln has four SUVs in its lineup. Out of the four, two, including the Aviator and Navigator, are built in the U.S. The Nautilus, which was Lincoln’s best-selling vehicle last year, is manufactured in Hangzhou, China. Ford’s latest decision, then, mostly affects the Nautilus. Things are a little trickier with the Corsair, as the current generation is coming to an end with the conclusion of the 2026 model year. The Corsair was built in Kentucky, and Lincoln was expected to move production of the SUV to China starting in 2027. With Ford’s new plans to prioritize Lincoln production in the U.S., we don’t know what will happen to the next-gen Corsair.
