ALLERTON, The Bronx (WABC) -- Abdul Titumir could not save his friend, 39-year-old Angel Johnson.
She was one of two women, who police say were killed when the 81-year-old driver of a Mercedes Benz plowed into people at a crosswalk in the Bronx, before crashing into several drivers.
Authorities say Johnson and another woman, 57-year-old Robin Kennedy were among those crossing Allerton Avenue at Holland Avenue around 2 p.m. Friday as the driver bolted through a red light.
According to authorities, Johnson and Kennedy died at the hospital with extensive trauma to their bodies.
Seven other people were also taken to the hospital, including the 81-year-old driver of the Mercedes.

A sergeant’s patrol vehicle was disabled after it was hit by a fleeing suspect vehicle connected to a drive-by shooting late Friday night in Puyallup, according to information provided by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office public information officer.
The suspect vehicle, which had “just done a drive-by shooting,” ran a red light and T-boned the patrol vehicle, the deputy said.
After the collision, the suspect vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old man, fled in what was described as a hit-and-run.
The patrol vehicle was disabled, but the sergeant was not hurt.
An extensive search later led investigators to the suspect vehicle in a Fred Meyer parking lot.

Toyota Australia has confirmed highly sensitive customer data is encrypted and never transmitted from its vehicles, following recent calls for greater government regulation of information generated by ‘connected vehicles’.
Toyota Australia said at a recent business update at its Port Melbourne headquarters that there are now more than one million connected Toyotas on Australian roads, after it launched Toyota Connected Services in November 2020.
“What’s most important is that the data, the customer data, and privacy is highly governed with Toyota, highly governed.”
Asked whether a Toyota vehicle could be hacked, and what protections Toyota Australia vehicles have, Mr Pappas reiterated the automaker’s use of data encryption.

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials announced the details of the investigation at a press conference in Salinas Thursday, defending their decision to get a judge-issued arrest warrant, known as a Ramey warrant, for the 14-year-old.
