In the show-floor demos, trained operators would ask their cars to change the climate settings, schedule a meeting after checking who’s available, and navigate to a destination based on inputs like, “Can you find me a good Italian restaurant?” Seeing the oh-so-2026 label ‘AI’ added to voice control, we’re supposed to believe it possesses higher, human-adjacent powers compared with the voice control that’s been native to our cars for years, or indeed with Siri or Google Assistant. What your car is collecting "Privacy nightmare on wheels" Modern connected vehicles are packed with sensors, cameras, microphones, GPS systems, and onboard computers. Many of these systems are twofold: they keep the vehicle in a safe working condition and serve the driver on a daily commute, but they can also serve the manufacturer and its end goals. Hyundai is working on a focused strategy to regain momentum in the Indian market. Three SUVs, expected to launch in the coming months, will play a crucial role in shaping the Korean brand’s big comeback in the country. These are the next-generation Creta, Bayon and a sub-four metre electric SUV. Hyundai is known to be developing a small SUV that will be positioned between the second-generation Venue and the Creta in its lineup, when launched. It will be based on the Bayon that’s on sale in many international markets. The global Bayon is set to get a generational update, and it will be the new, second-generation that would be brought to India. The project is currently codenamed BC4i. When it launches here, the Bayon will compete with models like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger. We don’t have an exact launch timeline for this product yet. Speculations point to a late 2026 window. The second-generation Bayon will have an SUV-like design. (The first-generation looked more crossover-ish.) It will be larger than its predecessor, and will come with a boxy, upright stance. Key design highlights will include a bold grille, split-headlamp setup, shark-fin antenna, thick wheel-arch cladding, stylish alloy wheels, sleek LED tail lamps possibly with a connecting light bar and more. The cabin is expected to feature a clean and modern design and a long list of features. We expect it to come with a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car features, 360-degree camera, and maybe even ADAS. Powertrain details remain under the wrap, at the time of writing. New Delhi: The telecom department has exempted spectrum in the 5.9 GHz band and the high-frequency band of 77-81 GHz from licensing requirements, which experts believe will boost passenger safety in vehicles and pave the way for the development of autonomous vehicles. The spectrum in the frequency band of 5.9 GHz has been exempted from a licence for wireless gear installed in the vehicle to enable its connectivity with the intelligent traffic management system. According to the notification dated June 11, no license will be required for possession of such on-board-unit by any person or its sale or hire by any dealer. The frequency band of 77-81 GHz is used for the establishment, maintenance or operation of a short-range Automotive Radar System installed on a vehicle and operating in the exempted frequency band. These radars are used for the automatic passenger safety system ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which enables features like emergency braking, lane departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control. The government has cleared the use of a dedicated wireless spectrum band for connected vehicle technologies, a move that could lay the foundation for smarter transportation systems and next-generation road safety features in India.
