Every automotive website has the same problem. Thousands of visitors browse, and fewer than 3% ever take action. For EV brands, the problem is worse. Buyers carry anxieties that a static webpage cannot address: real-world range, charging logistics, battery life, cost of ownership versus gasoline. These are not questions answered by a spec table or a lead capture form. I watched this play out firsthand when we deployed an AI sales agent across BYD’s digital properties in the Middle East, working with Al-Futtaim, one of the region’s largest automotive groups. BYD’s website traffic was growing fast as consumer curiosity about EVs surged. But the conversion rate sat at roughly 2.5%. That meant 97 out of every 100 visitors left without booking a test drive, requesting a callback, or doing anything at all. The core issue was not traffic. It was the gap between what buyers needed to know and what the website could tell them. The real questions buyers ask Here is what a typical EV-curious buyer actually wants to know when they land on a model page: What is the real-world range in summer heat with the AC running? How much does it actually cost to charge compared to filling up with petrol? Will the battery degrade in three years? Where are the nearest fast chargers on my commute route? These are not FAQ questions. These are conversion-blocking anxieties. And they sound different from buyer to buyer depending on where they live, how they drive, and what they currently own. A traditional chatbot matches keywords to pre-written answers. (TSX:BLDP) is a fuel cell technology company. Its fuel cells are a clean energy source that power heavy duty vehicles such as buses, trains, and commercial trucks. The company has spent the last few decades developing and improving upon its fuel cells. Ballard’s recent success in order activity and cost cutting mean that the future is looking increasingly bright. Mass adoption – this is a goal that Ballard continues to work toward. Progress has been slow, as using Ballard’s fuel cells to power vehicles is a big change. But progress is being made. In 2025, Ballard stock set a new production record of almost 800 engines, 40% higher than the prior year. This drove a 43% increase in revenue to $99.4 million. In the fourth quarter of 2025, Ballard’s heavy-duty mobility segment posted a 70% increase in its revenue, to $28.6 million. Clearly, growth is gaining momentum. On the cost side, things are also looking up for Ballard. Cash operating costs declined 41% in the fourth quarter. In an internet-driven world, modern connected cars are under scrutiny from regulators and industry bodies largely due to their ability to collect and share private driver information. While car makers generally use anonymised driver data for a range of purposes, such as maintenance, automatic SOS notification and real-time traffic conditions, some regulators are starting to target car makers. As reported by Drive in April 2026, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) is currently investigating two Asia-based car makers over alleged breaches of the collection of private driver data. While an OAIC spokesperson confirmed it is looking into a range of potential violations, they did say GPS location was identified as a key concern. “Location data, in particular, which connected vehicles have the potential to easily collect, is a specific category of data that presents a clear privacy concern,” an OAIC spokesperson previously told Drive. Though internet-connected cars are undoubtedly useful and convenient, some car owners are sharing their concerns, with a few drivers reaching out to Drive following a segment on Channel 9’s Today show. “I saw your segment on air and was hoping for your advice on how I can prevent my car data from being shared with the car company or the dealer. It was an entry-level role, but I immediately fell in love with the energy of the auction. After about six months, I accepted an administrative role in the medical field and gave my notice at the auction. To my surprise, the controller and general manager asked me to stay and offered me a full-time position in dealer registration on the spot. The location was close to home, the hours were great, and something about the auction environment had already captured my interest. The company made it official last week in Beijing, where it unveiled the iX3 Flow Edition — the first series-ready production automobile to incorporate E Ink’s color-shifting Prism technology directly into its bodywork. The iX3 Flow Edition, shown at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, is something different: not a concept, not a one-off for the auto-show circuit, but a vehicle that has passed BMW’s full battery of engineering and durability tests, and is intended as a scalable template for future models. How the Technology Works To understand what makes the iX3 Flow Edition possible, it helps to understand what E Ink actually is — and what it is not. E Ink Corporation was spun out of the MIT Media Lab in 1997 to commercialize a technology it calls electrophoretic ink — electronically charged particles suspended in a medium that responds to electrical signals. Most people have encountered the result without knowing it: the matte, paper-like screen on a Kindle or Nook is electrophoretic ink at work. The physics are elegantly simple. General Motors is rolling out Google’s Gemini AI assistant for model year 2022 and newer Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles equipped with Google built-in. Roughly 4 million vehicles in the United States are eligible for the update, which will be delivered over the air in phases. GM says the move represents an upgrade from the current Google Assistant experience. Gemini is designed to offer more conversational interactions, allowing drivers to speak naturally without memorizing specific commands. “Gemini delivers AI assistance to millions of drivers across every segment and price point for a wide range of everyday needs,” said Tim Twerdahl, GM’s global vice president of product management. “That kind of scale is only possible because of the connected vehicle foundation GM has built through OnStar over the past 30 years.” The AI assistant can handle a wide range of tasks, from navigation and messaging to entertainment and trip planning. Drivers can ask for playlists tailored to their mood or route, request summaries of podcasts, or send texts that can be edited or translated using voice commands. Dingell, Democrats urge Trump to keep Chinese autos out of U.S. market Washington — Ahead of a key U.S.-China meeting, several efforts are brewing on Capitol Hill to urge President Donald Trump to bar Chinese automakers from accessing the U.S. market. One of those efforts, led by U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, entered the public eye Tuesday as she announced a letter from 73 House Democrats on the topic some two weeks ahead of Trump's anticipated talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. "As you prepare for your upcoming summit with the President of the People’s Republic of China, any effort to lower barriers for Chinese automobiles or otherwise facilitate their entry into the U.S. market would pose a direct threat to American manufacturing, workers, and national security," the letter states. "This must remain a firm and non-negotiable priority." There is a similar effort brewing among House Republicans; a forthcoming legislative proposal by U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno to solidify a ban on Chinese autos; and a letter already sent to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week by Moreno and other Republican senators, according to Politico. The missives come as concerns have deepened in Washington, Detroit and elsewhere in the U.S. automotive heartland over the growing global power of China's auto industry, especially after Canada reached a new trade deal allowing the import and sale of a set number of Chinese electric vehicles. "China, which subsidizes its manufacturing, manipulates its currency, and uses slave labor, among other things, cannot be allowed in. More than 70 Democrats in the US House of Representatives on Tuesday called on President Donald Trump not to permit Chinese automakers to build or sell vehicles in the United States. The letter, led by Representatives Debbie Dingell and Ro Khanna, urges the administration to keep a ban in place that has the strong backing of US and foreign carmakers and other auto groups, Reuters reported. The push follows a similar effort earlier this month by three Democratic senators — Tammy Baldwin, Elissa Slotkin and Chuck Schumer — who wrote to Trump warning that allowing Chinese automakers in would create an economic advantage that American manufacturers could not overcome. They also flagged a national security risk that could not be reversed — a topic that the Democratic House Members further addressed in the new letter. The senators also urged the administration to designate BYD and other Chinese automakers as military-connected entities. The two letters came ahead of a planned summit between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, planned for next month. Pressure on Trump Congressional pressure to block Chinese automakers from the US market has been building on both sides of the aisle. Five major auto trade groups, representing General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai and others, wrote to the White House late last year calling China a “clear and present threat” and urging the administration to block Chinese government-backed automakers and battery manufacturers from opening plants in the country.
