The approach, which the authors say has never before been applied to intrusion detection, transforms raw network traffic data into grayscale images and then analyzes those images the way a vision model would analyze a photograph.
The core insight behind the work is that network intrusion data, despite arriving as tables of numbers, contains patterns that can be made visible.
Network traffic is notoriously lopsided: in a typical dataset, normal connections vastly outnumber malicious ones, which can bias classifiers toward simply labeling everything as safe.
The experimental evidence spans three benchmarks that have anchored intrusion detection research for years.
All three datasets, while canonical, are laboratory benchmarks; real network traffic is noisier, more diverse, and subject to distribution drift as new services and protocols appear.

According to reporting by The Seoul Economic Daily on the 11th, Coupang Eats is developing and moving to commercialize technology that uses delivery completion photos together with drivers' location data to identify misdeliveries.
Combined with the driver's GPS location data, the system confirms whether the actual delivery location matches the order address.
Coupang Eats has also added a safeguard at the photo-taking stage.
Coupang Eats believes the cross-verification of delivery completion will also make it easier to assign responsibility in cases such as misdeliveries.

The City of Caldwell intends to terminate its contract with Flock Safety, but not the use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs).
The Caldwell City Council voted in October to switch from Flock to Axon, approving a 10-year contract totaling $6.7 million, according to KTVB.
The City of Caldwell, in September, confirmed to Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) that it would be ending its contract with Flock Safety.
The portal also includes documents regarding its agreements with Flock Safety, as well as a map of Flock cameras in Caldwell.
The Wilder City Council shot down a proposal targeting Flock cameras on Sept. 1, with Mayor Justin Devenberg casting the deciding vote.

East Midlands Airport (EMA) in Leicestershire is the first in the United Kingdom to introduce facial recognition technology, a new contactless system that will allow passengers to pass through electronic passport gates (eGates) without needing to present their passport.
Nationwide rollout The UK’s Home Office plans to extend the technology to all 13 UK airports with eGates by early 2027.
The contactless system is already in use in countries such as Dubai and Australia.
The government estimates that the new contactless system is up to 25% faster than the current process of physically scanning a passport.

Israeli scientists have devised an AI model that can reconstruct and even predict what people are seeing with startling accuracy, likening the results to mind reading.

Council has more than 100 cameras with facial recognition capability Preston City Council has more than 100 CCTV cameras with facial recognition technology enabled, according to information disclosed through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by Liberty Investigates.
The council said that, of its 130 cameras, a facial recognition watchlist is used on just one, inside its One Stop Shop at Preston Town Hall.
Ten Lancashire councils said they do not use facial recognition technology or have it enabled on their cameras.
A council spokesperson said: "Preston City Council's CCTV system has the capability to use facial recognition technology.
