Amazon Photos unlimited storage is a genuinely useful perk buried inside Prime membership that most people didn't know they have. This unlimited photo storage is nothing to dismiss, especially as phone libraries balloon into the tens of thousands of images. But the Amazon Photos app has always had a problem: finding anything in it felt like rummaging through a shoebox. A new redesign, rolling out now on iOS with Android to follow, aims to fix that, and the most important upgrade is a natural language search that lets you describe a photo in plain English instead of guessing the exact date it was taken. Search the way you think The old Amazon Photos search required you to know something concrete: a date, a recognized face, a location tag. That works for me if I remember exactly when a thing happened. It fails completely when my memory is fuzzy, which is most of the time. I know firsthand how frustrating that gap is. My mom was sick for several years before she passed, and I had set up an Amazon Echo Show in her room so we could video chat and she could see family photos. During visits, we would often start reminiscing about something we had done together years before, and I would try to find related photos to put on her device. It was almost impossible. Thousands of images, organized by date, with no good way to surface the ones that actually mattered in that moment. Natural language would have let me type descriptions like "beach sunset last summer" or "kids playing in the snow" and get relevant results back without knowing a specific date or album name. The Winston-Salem-based organization has launched Petco Love Lost, an AI-powered platform that uses facial recognition to match photos of lost and found pets across shelters and community reports nationwide. The system allows pet owners and people who find animals to upload a photo, then scans a national database and continues monitoring for potential matches. Mark Neff, CEO of Forsyth Humane Society, said common, everyday situations can lead to pets getting out. “The landscaping crew comes in to mow your backyard forgets to latch the gate already one out of three pets is going to go missing in their lifetime so this software this capability will help reunite those animals so much quicker so much more efficiently and safely,” Neff said. Shelter leaders said the technology can help narrow the search, but they emphasized that community involvement remains critical. They are encouraging people to report missing pets quickly, share clear photos and use every available resource, especially in the first hours after an animal disappears. “What were telling people is the tool is there now were directing everyone into one location instantly upload that picture or two if that animal has been reported if it shows up at a shelter you are going to be contacted and you're going to know as quickly as possible where that animal is,” Neff said. Abstract Background Infectious keratitis (IK) is a major cause of corneal blindness world-wide, and prompt identification of IK and its etiologic subtype is essential for appropriate management. We developed deep learning (DL) models to detect IK and differentiate common subtypes from slit-lamp photographs. Methods In this retrospective study, slit-lamp photographs were collected from patients presenting to the emergency department of Farabi Eye Hospital (2014–2021) with bacterial keratitis (BK), fungal keratitis (FK), Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK), or herpes simplex keratitis (HSK), along with healthy controls and corneal scars. A total of 13,953 images were included. Three DL classifiers were trained: Model 1 (IK vs. normal), Model 2 (healthy vs. corneal scar vs. IK [pooled subtypes]), and Model 3 (BK vs. FK vs. AK vs. HSK). Results Model 1 achieved 99.9% accuracy for IK vs. normal (ROC-AUC 0.999). In five-fold cross-validation, Model 2 achieved mean accuracy 0.975 (95% CI 0.955–0.996), macro-F1 0.970 (95% CI 0.945–0.995), and macro-average AU-ROC 0.998 (95% CI 0.995–1.000). For subtype classification (Model 3), overall accuracy was 81.6% with balanced recall 83.3%; class accuracies were 88% (BK), 71% (FK), 72% (AK), and 93% (HSK) with ROC-AUCs 0.90–0.98. External validation of Model 3 (Ankara City Hospital; 665 images from 96 patients) showed accuracy 92.5%, macro-F1 93%, macro-average AUROC 0.996, and sensitivities of 95.2% (AK), 92.0% (BK), 85.5% (FK), and 99.5% (HSK). Conclusions DL models applied to slit-lamp photographs showed high performance for IK detection and clinically relevant differentiation of IK from corneal scars and among major IK subtypes, with external validation supporting generalisability. Louisiana bill would bring biometric age checks to bars Louisiana state Sen. Beth Mizell has introduced legislation, SB 499, that would create a new biometric age verification system for people entering premises licensed to serve alcohol, replacing sole reliance on physical or digital IDs with a credential tied to a live facial match. The proposal, titled the “Madison Brooks Law,” would add a new subsection to Louisiana’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Law and would take effect Aug. 1 if enacted. Louisiana’s bill is the clearest example of a proposed bar-entry biometric age-assurance system requiring a QR-linked credential and live facial match before entry. The bill is a response to the January 15, 2023, death of 19-year-old Madison Brooks, who died after being served alcohol underage using another person’s identification. The bill says, “physical and digital identification remain vulnerable to transfer and forgery.” SB 499 would define a “certified biometrically bound age assurance credential” as a digital or physical credential issued by the commissioner of the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control. The credential would have to establish or verify a person’s age or age eligibility in compliance with National Institute of Standards and Technology Digital Identity Guidelines, be cryptographically bound to one or more biometric identifiers so it cannot be transferred or shared, and meet applicable age assurance, identity-proofing and security standards. Under the bill, a credential presented in a digital wallet or printed form would have to be accepted by any alcohol permittee as lawful proof of age when its QR code is scanned and a live facial match confirms the holder. The proposal says the system would bind a verified 21-and-over indicator to a one-way facial biometric template inside a tamper-proof QR code. Abstract The integration of artificial intelligence with bone marrow cytology represents a significant trend in the application of AI image recognition technology within the medical sector. Despite the current high accuracy of AI in cell identification, there remains a clinical need for fully automated AI cell recognition equipment that spans from sample processing to result generation. The source of the sample’s origin as an influencing factor on the final results is a crucial consideration in equipment design. In this research, patient bone marrow fluid samples were processed into various types of anticoagulated bone marrow smears—EDTAK anticoagulated, sodium citrate anticoagulated, heparin lithium anticoagulated, and sodium citrate anticoagulated—and non-anticoagulated, and subsequently analyzed by AI devices. The findings revealed a significant lack of consistency in cell classification ratios and the total number of cells recognized between anticoagulated and non-anticoagulated bone marrow smear samples. This aspect must be taken into account when designing a fully automated AI-based bone marrow cell recognition device. For centuries, Anne Boleyn’s face has remained one of art history’s most enduring mysteries. Now, researchers believe artificial intelligence may have uncovered a forgotten portrait of the ill-fated queen hidden within the drawings of Hans Holbein the Younger. A new study from researchers at the University of Bradford and independent scholar Karen Davies challenges a centuries-old assumption. The team argues that a famous Holbein sketch, long identified as Anne Boleyn, may actually portray her mother, Elizabeth Howard. At the same time, another drawing labeled only as “An Unidentified Woman” could instead show Anne herself. The researchers reached their conclusion through facial recognition and AI-assisted image analysis. They compared facial structures, proportions, and family similarities across dozens of Tudor portraits connected to the Boleyn and Howard families. Their analysis found that the unidentified sitter shares stronger similarities with authenticated images of Anne Boleyn’s daughter, Elizabeth I, than the traditionally accepted portrait does. The discovery overturns a theory that historians accepted for more than 200 years. The well-known “Windsor sketch,” traditionally identified as Anne, shows a fair-haired woman with softer features and a fuller face. However, contemporary accounts consistently describe Anne as dark-haired, slender, and strikingly elegant, with a long neck and darker complexion. Those contradictions pushed Davies to question the attribution long before AI entered the investigation. Researchers also believe the confusion dates back to the 18th century. During that period, curators remounted and relabeled several Holbein drawings in the Royal Collection. Because only a small number of the works contain contemporary inscriptions or reliable documentation, historians have debated many of the identifications for generations. Davies estimates that fewer than 15% of Holbein’s portrait drawings carry firm contemporary verification. 'This is not facial recognition' — Meta wants to scan kids' height and bone structure to verify their age Sorry if you've got a young-looking face - New AI tools for verifying ages are being rolled out by Meta - Instagram and Facebook is for users aged 13+ - A "visual analysis" will weigh up height and bone structure Age verification for sites, apps, and devices is fast becoming the norm as regulators look to protect children from potentially harmful content — including content on social media. Now Meta has announced new "age assurance measures" for teen users and predictably, they are powered by AI. Specifically, the system will use contextual clues associated with a profile (such as mentions of birthdays or school grades) together with a "visual analysis" to help figure out how old a user is. "We want to be clear: this is not facial recognition," says Meta. "Our AI looks at general themes and visual cues, for example height or bone structure, to estimate someone's general age; it does not identify the specific person in the image." Users suspected of being too young for Facebook and Instagram (so under 13) will have their accounts deactivated. They'll then need to provide some form of proof of age through a specific age verification process to get their account back. 'Safe, positive experiences online' Other Facebook and Instagram users can report accounts that they think are being used by kids under the age of 13, and Meta says it hopes to "significantly increase the number of underage accounts we identify and remove" through these methods. Current Flock customers, as well as those who are considering using Flock, should be aware of these contractual changes, look closely at them, and seek the advice of counsel before they enter into or renew a contract with the company. Flock’s changes, covered by the security research service IPVM and the web site HaveIBeenFlocked.com, which are both dogged investigators and critics of the company, are already having an impact on local debates. Flock made at least four changes to its standard terms & conditions (T&C) in the 7 months leading up to its current (as of this writing) contract, dated Feb. 16, 2026. The changes include: - Sale of data. Flock’s previous T&C stated flatly, “Flock does not own and shall not sell Customer Data.” That language is now absent from their T&C. - Control over data. The new license, while granting formal legal “ownership” of data to the customer, grants the company “the exclusive right to determine and control the method, timing, format, and medium” of access to the data that supposedly belongs to the customer. HaveIBeenFlocked reports that Flock appears to be giving customers access not to raw footage but to altered, degraded, low-resolution copies of that data (which also lack metadata such as time stamps, which can be important). That would be a funny form of ownership. - A perpetual license. The T&C now add a “perpetual” right for Flock to use customer data to “support and improve” its services
