The Nürburgring 24 Hour race weekend is here, and while there’s a lot of attention on four-time F1 champion Max Verstappen making his debut, a new car has been revealed to coincide with the event. HWA – long associated with Mercedes-Benz’s racing programs – released the Evo in 2023 as a modern restomod of the famed Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, powered by a modern AMG engine. While the road car is already a limited offering, just three racing examples are taking part in the twice-around-the-clock endurance event this weekend, where HWA announced it’ll make 15 track-only customer cars, closely related to the racer. The HWA Evo R utilises many of the same parts as the Evo.R race car, such as a reinforced monocoque chassis and FIA-homologated roll cage, as well as a full-carbon racing seat and moveable pedal box. Its carbon fibre body gains additional aerodynamic upgrades compared to the road car, including widened front and rear arches and a revised bonnet, NACA-air intakes, polycarbonate windows, removable rear doors and Ronal lightweight racing wheels. Under the skin, the Evo R gets six-way adjustable racing suspension – developed in collaboration with KW and H&R – and AP Racing brakes, helping to keep it on the road. Its engine is pushed back towards the centre of the car from its usual position, with the twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 producing 412kW and 670Nm, all of which is delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed transaxle. Formula 1 News: McLaren Racing and Intel in multi-team partnership McLaren Racing announced a multi-year technology partnership with Intel, who joins as Official Compute Partner of the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team and Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team. As part of the agreement, Intel will also become Official Partner of the McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team. The partnership brings together two iconic organizations seeking ultimate performance, combining Intelâs semi-conductor engineering leadership with McLaren Racingâs on-track pedigree and expertise. Under the agreement, Intel technologies will support McLaren Racing in turning large volumes of data into actionable insight through a secure, scalable compute foundation. This includes trackside edge computing to enable real-time analytics and race-day decision-making. As part of the partnership, Intel branding will be featured on the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team cars, starting from the Montreal race next weekend. Branding will appear on one of the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team cars at this yearâs Freedom 250 in Washington DC and at the iconic Indy 500 race from 2027. Intel branding will also feature on the McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team on-stage simulators for the final event of the F1 Sim Racing World Championship this month. From the 2027 season, Intel will feature on the team’s virtual livery. Daniel Juncadella is part of the #3 Mercedes-AMG entry for the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, sharing the car with Max Verstappen, Jules Gounon, and Lucas Auer, in one of the most anticipated lineups of the event. Juncadella knows exactly what the Nurburgring demands. The Spaniard returns to the Nordschleife this year, back behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3, and alongside Max Verstappen. After a one-year stint away from Mercedes machinery, Juncadella says returning to the brand feels like coming home: “It’s a car I know very well for many years, especially at the Nordschleife,” Juncadella exclusively told Motorsport Week. “Last year I drove the Lamborghini, but it was maybe more of a one-off event for me. This feels much more natural, more like what I’m used to at the Nürburgring. “I think it’s a great year to be back in a Mercedes. Unfortunately, I haven’t won this in the 10 years already, so I think my time is coming.” The headline story entering the weekend, however, is Verstappen’s involvement. While the four-time Formula 1 world champion’s presence has generated massive attention around the event, Juncadella says the dynamic inside the team has been seamless from the beginning. “Very cool,” he said when asked about working with Verstappen. “He’s a good friend. I’ve known him for a lot of years now. We shared a lot in sim racing, and now we get to share it in real life, which is definitely very cool. “He’s a guy that brings a lot not only to me, but also to the world of endurance racing. Sim Racers Garrett Manes and Daniel Faulkingham To Represent RWR in 13-Race Schedule MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 15, 2026) – Rick Ware Racing will compete in the 2026 eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series, fielding two sim racers in each event on the 13-race schedule that begins May 19. Garrett Manes will drive the No. 51 Chevrolet for RWR and Daniel Faulkingham will drive the team’s No. 55 Chevrolet in the series’ 17th season. They are among 40 of the best sim racers competing in the premier sim racing series, and all are vying for their share of the $500,000 purse, with the champion earning an impressive $100,000. “What stands out to me about sim racing is how serious it is. People may see it as a game, but at this level, it’s not. “The preparation, the attention to detail and the competition are all real,” said Rick Ware, team owner. “We’ve built Rick Ware Racing by competing in a lot of different forms of motorsports, and joining the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series felt like a natural fit for us. “We’ve got two talented drivers in Garrett and Daniel, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they can do.” Manes is an accomplished sim racer with more than 2,750 career victories. The 25-year-old from Powhatan, Virginia, also races in the real world, running part-time in the Toyota GR Cup North America. Manes previously competed in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series from 2021 through 2024. His full-time job is with Sim Seats, where he builds racing simulators. Faulkingham returns for his fourth straight season in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series. Earlier this year in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Qualifying Series, Faulkingham won the season-opening Top Split race at Daytona International Speedway, leading 64 of the race’s 80 laps. A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges goes live this Friday, May 15, when your console clock ticks past midnight. Five events, seven days to clear them, and the usual stack of bonus tickets waiting for anyone who works through the list. For anyone new to the format, Weekly Challenges open up after you’ve finished the GT Cafe career through Menu Book 39 and the ending movie. Each week’s set is four standard World Circuits races plus one Special Event, with reward tickets handed out at one, three, and five completions. Tickets land in your Gifts and need to be redeemed before they expire. Across the full set, there’s around 1.3m credits in cash and prizes available if you clear everything with clean race bonuses. This Week’s Highlights The headline this week is the Mitsubishi FTO one-make Special Event, which is a slightly unusual choice of car for the spotlight. Seven laps at Watkins Glen Short (not the longer layout that usually hosts the headline events at the Glen) pays out 90,000cr for the win. It should be a fun one. Mitsubishi turns up twice this week, with the Evolution Meeting putting Lancer Evolutions through three laps of Kyoto Driving Park’s Yamagiwa + Miyabi Reverse layout for 70,000cr. The Gr.1 Prototype Series at Grand Valley – Highway 1 closes the week out as the headline payout: ten laps, racing tires, a 950PP cap, and 160,000cr for the win. Elsewhere, the Silvia Sisters opens the week with a short three-lap Nissan field at Tsukuba (Silvia, Sileighty, and 180SX Type X eligible) for 27,000cr. How Round 7 of the 2026 F1 Sim Racing World Championship panned out It was an enthralling Round 7 of the 2026 F1 Sim Racing World Championship – here is a recap of the Spa-Francorchamps sessions. The 2026 Sim Racing World Championship returned on Wednesday for Event 3: Round 7 around the virtual Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, with 18 of the best Esports drivers racing hard for both championships at the F1 Media and Technology Centre in Biggin Hill. It was another race filled with daring overtakes, careful strategy, and plenty of drama – and with wet-to-dry conditions throwing the strategic picture wide open, nothing was straightforward from lights out to the chequered flag. Here is a recap of Wednesday’s action... Belgium – Qualifying Qualifying started with a shock – reigning champion Jarno Opmeer lingered at the bottom of the timing board throughout the duration of Q1, and though he found a purple second sector on his final attempt, it ultimately wasn’t enough to save him. Knocked out in P16, it would still be foolish to count him out of the race entirely... Rain arrived early in Q2, rewarding those who had banked their laps early on before the track was entirely soaked. With eight minutes remaining, the entire field retreated into the pits, leaving no chance of improvement – a one-and-done session. The casualty list was notable too – Thomas Ronhaar, Jake Benham and Alfie Butcher all failed to make Q3. The final session was tense as the teams waited for the track to dry out, and with two minutes of the session remaining, all 10 drivers headed out for their final laps – with three of them making the bold call to switch to slicks over intermediates. Who will race for the Dale Earnhardt Jr Cup from the NASCAR Hall of Fame this year? This week, we learned the 40 that will be competing for it among the 20 official teams throughout the 13-week Championship Series season. Many familiar faces are back. Some are back after years away from the series. One of the strongest rookie classes, with a total of nine drivers this season, are ready to prove why they belong. One man—Steven Wilson—sits atop the proverbial throne as the new two-time champion of the series. Will he take number three this year? The penultimate event of the 2026 Sim Racing World Championship concluded on Thursday after Round 8 and 9 around Zandvoort and Circuit of The Americas, with the best Esports drivers out there fighting it out for glory at the F1 Media and Technology Centre in Biggin Hill. Both races were filled with late drama, bold strategy, and plenty of shocks, as Otis Lawrence took a huge step towards sim racing glory, and Alpine took control of the race for the Constructors’ Championship Here is a recap of Thursday’s sessions... Round 8 – The Netherlands Zandvoort is another tricky track for making moves, so it was yet another crucial Qualifying session for the field to navigate. Ismael Fassi found out how tight the margins were in Q2 the hard way, missing the top-10 shootout by just six thousandths of a second, with Tom Manley and Jake Benham also suffering an early exit. After the first runs in Q3, Frederik Rasmussen, Lawrence and Bari Broumand looked like the three to beat, separated by less than a tenth. However, a costly mistake by championship leader Lawrence left him in P5, having spun out at Turn 14. Instead, Red Bull’s Rasmussen took his third pole of the season, as Broumand, Ruben Pedreno, and Nicolas Longuet rounded out the top four. A textbook start from Rasmussen left the Dane comfortably in P1, while Broumand and Pedreno battled it out side-by-side for half a lap before the Iranian eventually kept hold of his P2. The Simucube 3 wheel base was a significant new product for the Finnish brand last year, replacing a then six-year-old stalwart. However, to this point, only the 15Nm Sport and 25Nm Pro have been available to purchase or test at events. At next week’s SimRacing Expo Charlotte, the range-topping 35Nm Simucube 3 Ultimate base will debut with a world-first hands-on opportunity. Such torque is delivered by a ‘Spoke IPM’ motor, which the outfit claims is the quickest responding motor it’s ever created. The exact release and shipping date for the device is still unknown, but expected within 2026. All visitors will be able to test it on Booth C6+7 in the Charlotte Convention Center between 22nd and 24th May. - Simagic Zeus range of steering wheels will be launched on 22nd May - Modular design and premium materials promised Simagic is set to launch three new steering wheels during next week’s SimRacing Expo Charlotte (22nd-24th May), with the firm’s Zeus range finally coming to fruition. First unveiled at SimRacing Expo Dortmund in 2025, the Zeus Formula rim is a 280mm-wide Formula 1-style steering wheel with an aluminium alloy chassis and a 5mm carbon fibre front plate. It features 92 mappable inputs, customisable RGB backlights, and modular paddle compatibility for push-pull, double, and triple-style paddles. Two other steering wheels in the Zeus range will also be showcased, including what looks to be a GT3-specific rim and a circular wheel geared toward virtual rallying and drifting. The Zeus range is set to employ a modular design, which, although there’s little detail to go on at this stage, looks to be related to the screens used across all three previewed wheels (as well as the paddle configurations mentioned previously). Regardless, the wheels, which Simagic describes as its ‘most powerful ever’, are set to use premium chassis and button materials and are likely to be compatible with third-party wheelbases and SimHub, judging by Simagic’s previous products.
