I tried GameSir's revolutionary new game controller and it's the most mind-blowing thing I've used in years It looks like a bit of a Frankenstein, but trust me when I say, this is going to be something spectacular. One of the products that's pricked up our ears the most in recent times is GameSir's wild-looking controller with a full racing wheel in the middle. Not only does it look unlike anything else on the market, it's also one of the most innovative ideas I've seen in years. It's still a long way off, with the current projections for a Q1 2027 launch, but I stumbled across one at this year's Sim Racing Expo in Charlotte, so naturally, I grabbed it with both hands. The unit I spent some time with is still very much a prototype, but honestly, I can't stop thinking about it. It's truly one of the most mind-blowing pieces of technology I've touched in recent times. The controller itself debuted earlier this year at CES and has been referred to by its code name, Swift Drive. At this event, though, it's being marketed through a collaboration with sim racing hardware company Trak Racer, and their version will be known as the TR640. So, what's it all about? Unbelievably, the Swift Drive/TR640 packs a genuine direct drive motor into the form factor of a regular controller. It's a little heavier than your average Xbox controller, but not uncomfortably so, and it's certainly no more cumbersome. Direct drive is a technology usually limited to much larger, heftier, more expensive virtual racing setups. Inside the controller is something technologically the same, but much smaller. Launch on PC in March with cute visuals and rambunctious racing, a key feature was missing from iRacing Arcade – local split-screen multiplayer. Now, a work-in-progress version of this feature, which supports up to four players, can be tested in person at the SimRacing Expo Charlotte. Having tested the build alongside Traxion’s John Munro, plus Larry Fulcher and Justin Melillo from iRacing, a quad-entrant race proved to be typically fraught. You can add in AI opponents to varying skill levels to bulk up the grid, and it’s in this setting that the game’s oodles of charm shine through. We also tested it with two and three players. In the latter setting, the fourth quarter becomes a large track map. The stated aim is for the mode to be added ‘this summer’ for PC, and when it arrives, this should be alongside the launch of the PlayStation and Xbox versions. Further car and track content is expected for the title, too, although the representatives weren’t able to confirm which yet. Mercedes Antonelli was fastest in FP1 from his team mate, with those two comfortably ahead of the rest. Russell did get a lucky break late on in practice, as he spun out of Turn 1 and managed to scrub enough speed to kiss the barriers and emerge with an undamaged car. He will be hoping that luck holds for the rest of the weekend. Mercedes looked to have more of a fight on their hands in Sprint Qualifying, with the field closing up and Hamilton in particular taking the battle right to his former team. But in the end Russell was the one to grab pole by 0.068s from his team mate. The upgrade package did its job, keeping them ahead of the chasing pack. Lewis Hamilton says his performance in qualifying for the sprint race in Montreal vindicated his decision not to use the simulator before the weekend began. He was quickest in the first round of qualifying and second in the second phase, but slipped to fifth on the grid in the shoot-out for pole position. Nonetheless Hamilton was pleased with his performance, which he feels was partly down to not preparing for the race on Ferrari’s simulator.“That was probably the best qualifying session we’ve had for some time,” said Hamilton. “Just really great work with the engineers, the set-up changes, the car felt really fantastic from [practice] and we made just subtle changes going into quali. “[SQ1 and SQ2 were] looking good and then I don’t know why the others are able to turn up a little bit more. But I’m just happy to be there in a fight. I was having so much fun out there. “Also the fact that I didn’t do the sim, and I feel it’s the best I’ve felt all year, so I think that’s the way forward for me.” Hamilton explained on Thursday he did not use a simulator regularly before joining Ferrari. “The sim is amazing,” he said. “It’s an amazing space to work in. Local racing community speaks on the loss of Kyle Busch The local racing community is doing what they can to honor Busch, like posting photos and tributes online. WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -Kyle Busch is a household name for NASCAR fans. “He’s definitely one of the most naturally talented drivers that’s ever been in NASCAR,” said Chris Gutierrez, a sim racer in Wichita. Gutierrez has been a Kyle Busch fan since high school. “I always loved how he would get out and take a bow, I thought that was really cool, just like putting on a show for the fans,” Gutierrez said, “I remember doing the bow when he would win races.” When Gutierrez heard Busch had died, he did not believe it. “When I got the news on the NASCAR app, I thought it was AI, I thought I misread it,” Gutierrez said. Gutierrez says the sim racing community has been showing their support, taking part in tributes for the driver. “We’ll run paint schemes and we’ll have charity races and stuff, and everybody’s making well wishes, so it’s been a good community so far,” Gutierrez said. Busch’s death was incredibly sudden. In fact, he had just won a race four days before he died. “It’s really odd, man,” said John Cammon, a racer from Goddard, “I’m praying for his family. He has a son that’s gonna be a wheelman too.” “Your heart kind of sinks, and then I think about, he has two young kids, and our prayers from here at 81 Speedway to him and his family,” said Jeremy Heim, the announcer at 81 Speedway in Park City.
