The Nürburgring may be heaven for the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, but the Taycan electric sedan has had to dig deeper to reclaim its title as the fastest EV around the circuit. In late 2023, Porsche announced the Taycan Turbo GT – equipped with its optional Weissach package – had set the quickest time for a production EV at the 20.832km Nürburgring Nordschleife track, lapping the venue in seven minutes and 7.55 seconds. However, it was later displaced by the Rimac Nevera hypercar (seven minutes and 5.30 seconds) then the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (seven minutes and 4.96 seconds), the latter of which held the record until the world’s fastest car, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, beat it with a six minutes and 59.16-second lap. Now, Porsche once again holds the production EV title, after the Taycan Turbo GT received upgrades from its racing partner Manthey Racing, the firm responsible for the fastest 911s at the Nürburgring, to set a time of six minutes and 55.53 seconds. Like the 911s, the Manthey kit consists of retuned vehicle software, lightweight 21-inch forged wheels (shod in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres), and additional aerodynamic parts (rear wing with bigger endplates, larger front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wheel aerodiscs) which increased its downforce levels from 95kg to 310kg at 200km/h. The Manthey kit also represents a first for any Porsche, increasing its powertrain outputs, resulting in a 20kW power increase to 600kW in its standard driving mode, while peak torque has jumped from 1240Nm to 1270Nm using launch control. An additional 130kW can be unlocked using the Taycan’s Attack Mode, bringing total power up to 730kW. This week’s new Online Time Trial is German through and through. Gran Turismo 7 pairs one of Porsche’s most beloved classics, the 911 Carrera RS (901) ’73, with the full 24h layout of the Nürburgring on Sports Medium tires. The Carrera RS was was added to GT7 back in update 1.29 and it’s a slow but personality-rich choice, especially when paired with this tire compound. The result has been one of the more popular Time Trial combos in recent memory, judging by the conversation in our forums. This is, of course, the full 25-kilometer Nürburgring 24h layout. Most players are looking at lap times north of 10 minutes, so a clean run is a real commitment. BMW’s most affordable M performance cars are arguably best known – at least in their current generation – for their potent twin-turbo six-cylinder engines, often regarded as some of the best in class. A cloud has hung over the head of the ‘S58’ 3.0-litre straight-six which powers the M2, M3 and M4 though, due to upcoming emissions regulations which have threatened to see the models electrified. To ensure the S58 can meet the upcoming ‘Euro 7’ emissions standards (due to be in effect from November 2026, BMW has announced the M2, M3 and M4 are soon to adopt a new pre-chamber ignition system, claimed to not only lead to lower emissions but also reduced fuel consumption under high loads. Dubbed ‘BMW M Ignite’ technology, the new system centres around the pre-chamber positioned within the cylinder head, which is connected with the cylinder’s main combustion chamber by overflow openings. This pre-chamber has its own spark plug and ignition coil, meaning the engine has two ignition systems. While BMW says it patented the technology in 2024, we’ve seen an almost identical system feature on Maserati’s Nettuno V6 with the same benefits, while pre-chamber combustion was introduced in Formula 1 back in 2014, though it can be traced back to diesel engines. “At low and medium revs, the conventional spark plug in the main combustion chamber fires before the spark plug in the pre-chamber,” BMW said in a press release. “But when the engine is operating under higher revs and loads, the pre-chamber ignition takes over the lead role, with part of the fuel-air mixture channelled through the openings into the pre-chamber also ignited there. “The flames generated as a result exit the pre-chamber at around the speed of sound. “These ignition jets then ignite the mixture in the main combustion chamber above
Terry Crews fronts new Cadillac F1 docuseries Cadillac has launched Crews Control, a series following the American team's entry into Formula 1, hosted by Terry Crews. The actor and TV personality, best known for his role in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, was named an official ambassador for Cadillac at the start of 2026 and is now taking fans backstage in the team's debut season. Airing on YouTube, the 18-part series will follow Crews as he goes behind the scenes with Cadillac, immersing himself in the culture, the politics, and the fan experiences that have made F1 the behemoth it is today. In the first episode, which is available to watch now, Crews joins the team at Silverstone in January 2026, when the Cadillac F1 car hit the track for the first time. Speaking to The Race about Cadillac's debut, Crews said: "The fact that we [an American manufacturer] were not in Formula 1, I thought was the biggest misstep ever and it's a glaring omission that has finally been corrected by Cadillac. "When you're talking about the history of what Cadillac is in the automotive industry, it's luxury, it's the best, it symbolises so many wonderful things." The self-described 'professional hype man and aspiring F1 expert' has long had an interest in the automotive industry. Growing up, Crews's father worked for General Motors - a co-owner of the Cadillac F1 team with TWG Motorsports. It appears his ambassadorship with the team was the perfect fit. "I've had a 30-year career, I have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and to be here right now is just as important as being on the set of Brooklyn Nine-Nine or on the set of White Chicks," Crews added.

Proposals for further evolutionary changes to the 2026 regulations have been agreed in principle following an online meeting, convened by F1’s governing body the FIA and attended by Team Principals, Formula One Management and power unit manufacturer representatives. Friday’s meeting began with a review of the recently agreed rule refinements introduced at last weekend’s Miami Grand Prix. “These measures, designed to improve safety and reduce excessive harvesting, were deemed to have delivered improved competition and represent a positive step in the continued refinement of the 2026 framework,” read a statement issued by the FIA following the meeting. The FIA also reported that “no material issues or safety concerns” had been noted following the introduction of these refinements. “Further evaluation of the Miami package is ongoing with a view to the introduction of further adjustments at future events,” continued the FIA’s statement. “These include improved start-safety revisions and measures to improve safety under wet conditions. These will be communicated to teams once defined. “Turning to the longer-term refinement of the regulations, it was agreed in principle to introduce evolutionary changes to the rules regarding hardware components, making competition safer, fairer and more intuitive for drivers and teams. “The measures agreed in principle today for 2027 would see a nominal increase in Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) power by ~50kW alongside a fuel-flow increase and a nominal reduction of the Energy Recovery System (ERS) deployment power by ~50kW.” Further detailed discussion in technical groups, comprising teams and power unit manufacturers, will take place before the final package is decided. Confirmed in February for a 2026 return, MXGP 26 has been unveiled, and it now uses Unreal Engine 5. This appears to be a theme with Nacon, also announcing today (7th April) that its next WRC game will also ditch the proprietary KT Engine deployed by MXGP 24. Another change for this season’s motocross title, it will be created solely by Artefacts Studio, as opposed to the game from two years ago, which was created by Artefacts in collaboration with KT Racing. The creation team promises greater terrain definition and deformation, more realistic rider animations. It will feature a complete real-world 2026-season roster. “We obviously worked on the physics as well, we developed everything so it matches expectations for the game,” said Producer, Romain Paolillo. “We have reworked everything; we didn’t take anything from the MXGP 24 physics to be sure the bike and the rider have their own way of being controlled. You will be able to do more precise and realistic whips and scrubs, as well as maintaining [control of] the bike in the air. “With the terrain deformation, the ruts, bumps and burms give a lot more information to the bike so you can use them to ride more precisely and have more feedback.” Gameplay was showcased from a work-in-progress alpha build. Despite its unfinished nature, you can see a reworked HUD and much greater draw distances compared to ‘24. Rider (and shirt) animations seem more naturalistic, although in-air movement wasn’t really showcased. Neither was AI racing at this stage. We were lucky enough to get sent these before release. So we’ve been playing around with them for a short while, and I have to admit, they are pretty special. From May 22-24, taking place during Memorial Day Weekend in the USA, and more importantly in Charlotte, North Carolina, will co-exist alongside NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on that Sunday. F1.com digs into the data after the first four rounds in Australia, China, Japan and Miami… Race starts under F1’s new-for-2026 regulations have been a hot topic across the opening few rounds of the campaign, with a greater variety in rapid, average and poor getaways adding to the drama on the first lap of a Grand Prix. After the Australian, Chinese, Japanese and Miami Grand Prix weekends, F1.com digs into the data to see who the early winners and losers are – our data showing some huge differences between the best and worst performers… Why are race starts different in 2026? Before looking at the numbers, it is worth a re-cap on how race starts have changed in 2026, with F1.com technical expert Mark Hughes explaining in a pre-season feature what the drivers are now facing when they line up on the grid. “Because of the way the new cars’ power units are configured, the sequence of actions performed by the drivers as they approach the grid, wait for the start and then accelerate away has become a little different,” he wrote. “Without the previous MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit – Heat) electrical motor to help quickly spin the turbo up to speed, the Turbocharger – which delivers its maximum boost when running at around 100,000rpm – is now relying totally on the energy of the exhaust gases. “The higher the engine is being revved, the faster the exhausts flow, and the faster the turbo spins. When the turbo is not running with maximum boost pressure, there will be a delay between pressing the throttle and getting the full power delivery being requested. “This is turbo lag – a phenomenon which wasn’t really present
One of the challenges facing Revosim, Nacon’s sim racing equipment brand, is its name. Not how it’s spelt, or how it looks printed on a product, but the lack of cachet. Competitor brands have either been around for decades, with a large and loyal install base, or seem to be China-backed and able to undercut or rapidly iterate. The French brand debuted its RS Pure (9 Nm) wheelbase and a matching set of load-cell pedals last year, entering a fiercely competitive oligopoly in the process. That lack of brand recognition, however, should change with this new product, the first optional wheel rim for the ecosystem. It’s an officially licensed Aston Martin F1 product, which should mark the beginning of a wider range in future Yes, that team. You know, Adrian Newey, Fernando Alonso and soon Jonathan Wheatley. Green mixed with fluorescent green. One key criticism of Reovsim so far has been a lack of an accessory ecosystem. Well, the shifter, clutch pedal and handbrake are now available, and this means there’s finally a formula-style rim to go alongside the round unit available since the base’s initial release. Handily, unbeknownst to me, I already had the hub needed to marry with the rim. The RS Pure Steering wheel, available separately or as part of a bundle with the base, is already two parts merged into one. Undo six bolts on the front, and the electronics (buttons, shift lights, quick release and shifts) detach. After this, simply swap the round rim for the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team Rim, and place the magnetic Formula 1-team bolt cover on the front, and hey presto – you’re now transformed into Alonso (minus a serious case of vibration white finger). The layout is also cursed too, but you can blame the limited space to bolt addons to the PlaySeat Formula Instinct rig. The big news here is that Revosim has teamed up with Aston Martin to bring this new F1 wheel add-on to the RS Pure Sim — including this flatter, wider F1-style wheel, magnetic mounting cap with the badge, driving gloves and the carbon paddles for £129. In my testing, for enhancing steering feel in these beasty cars, this definitely performs much better than the real-life team is doing right now (...that was low, apologies to the team). But while I am very much a track racer, I want the flexibility to dip into rally and drifting too. So I got the £439 Revosim bundle with shifter, loadcell handbrake and clutch pedal too for the full experience, and while I absolutely suck at rallying right now, it’s a lot of fun with these.
