Beijing, June 27 (SANA) Syria and China launched the “Syria International Smart Industrial Cities” platform on Saturday to strengthen industrial cooperation, attract investment, and support Syria’s reconstruction efforts. Abstract The dense deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) networks in smart cities poses severe challenges in spectral efficiency, energy consumption, and interference management. This paper addresses the joint optimization of three-dimensional (3D) beamforming, subcarrier assignment, and power allocation in a multi-carrier non-orthogonal multiple access (MC-NOMA) network supporting both device-to-infrastructure (D2I) and device-to-device (D2D) communications. A robust percentile-based channel model with spatial shadowing correlation is adopted to cope with urban propagation uncertainties, and an accurate elliptical footprint model derived from the 3-dB antenna pattern is used to evaluate coverage gaps and beam overlaps. The resulting mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem is solved by a three-layer memetic particle swarm optimization (Hybrid PSO) algorithm that combines a fixed-point Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC-aware) power solver, an iterative Hungarian method for subcarrier assignment, and an adaptive multi-phase local search. Simulation results demonstrate fast convergence, with the network power consumption stabilizing at 88 mW at a 600 MHz carrier frequency. The proposed MC-NOMA with 3D beamforming consistently outperforms baseline schemes that employ OFDMA with shared spectrum or uniform linear arrays, especially under high channel estimation errors, strong external interference, stringent coverage constraints, and increasing user densities. The findings confirm that the joint framework significantly enhances energy efficiency and robustness, making it a scalable solution for next-generation urban IoT networks. The decision was taken at the last cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar early this week after the project was declared completed. A panel and terms of reference will be issued following which the audit will be held by an external agency. The audit will assess whether works and funds were utilised in sync with the approved plan of the project, an official added. The central flagship urban development programme in Srinagar is part of the 100 cities across the country for transforming them into inclusive and sustainable through infrastructure development. Approved in 2017, 161 projects were to be developed with a total tranche of Rs 3,634 crores in Srinagar. A senior urban development official said some projects were audited by the external agency but the government wants a complete audit before the project is completely transferred to the union territory. “The audit is necessitated as the government has not taken over the smart city yet. The cabinet took a call to conduct the audit through an external agency,” National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar told ETV Bharat. Now that 5G is in its maturation and densification phase in many places across the world, the race has begun to hit the next stage of telecommunications technology: 6G. 5G is already doing much – boasting lower latency, lower IoT device complexity, and the ability to host up to a million densely packed connections over small areas – however, that won’t be enough to bring about the “world of tomorrow” IoT technologies that we are so often told are just around the corner. Transformational developments like smart city scale digital twins, holographic / immersive telepresence, collaborative autonomous drone swarms and ubiquitous coverage across land, air, sea and space will all need 6G to be realised. 5G is unfortunately still held back from those possibilities by a number of hard technical limits which 6G plans to overcome. Latency 5G doubtlessly provides a huge latency improvement when compared to 4G. The best that 4G could muster was a latency of around 10 milliseconds, although under real-world conditions that number likely climbs to between 30 and 50 milliseconds. For 5G, latency is about 1 millisecond one-way and ranges from 10 to 20 milliseconds in the consumer world, and in the low single-digit milliseconds in private 5G/Edge deployments. In the grand scheme of things, the difference might not seem that big – but it is vitally important for the IoT use cases that 5G meant to advance. That includes industrial robotics, which generally require latency of less than two milliseconds, in order to coordinate the thousands of communications between the robots and their controllers that happen per second and to avoid them stacking up behind one another. Last year, 102,700 manufactured homes were built in the U.S. That’s only about a third of the 300,000 manufactured homes the country averaged every year from the 1970s through the 1990s, according to the latest Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies’ State of the Nation’s Housing report. Even as cities and counties scramble to find affordable housing amid a national shortage, the traditionally low-cost manufactured home has been stifled due in part to a longstanding rule that experts say drives up the cost of their construction: the requirement that manufactured housing be built on permanent chassis. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s requirement of a permanent chassis, a 10- to 12-inch metal frame that enables a mobile or manufactured home to be transported, dates back to the 1970s and has gotten renewed attention from lawmakers seeking to boost affordable housing options. The 21st Century Road to Housing Act, passed by Congress on Tuesday, eliminates the requirement. “It makes it easier and cheaper to build new manufactured housing by removing outdated chassis requirements, and brings down the cost of a new unit by up to $10,000,” Sen. They also pointed to a growing sense that solidarity with Ukraine is entering a new phase, with more attention to building long-term resilience and win-win partnerships. The Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC), which ended on 26 June in Gdańsk, was held less than a fortnight after the EU and Ukraine opened the first negotiations on reforms required for membership of the EU. The conclusions of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, an annual gathering created to support Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, broadly reflect calls made by the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. As a result of the decision, owners of stores, restaurants and other types of public-facing private property that want to prohibit guns must communicate that. It’s no longer the case that guns are prohibited by default. - The Wolford v. Lopez decision applies to Hawai'i, but it puts at risk similar laws in other states, including California, Maryland and New Jersey. - The decision follows a federal appeals court decision in May that struck down a similar law in New York. The Supreme Court action makes it less likely New York will look to the top court to reverse the appeals court decision. Dive Insight: Some 150 miles of new fixed-guideway transit lines are expected to open across North America this year, including 13 projects in the U.S. To date, Los Angeles has opened a nearly 4-mile extension of one of its subway lines; Seattle opened the final 7-mile segment of its light rail line across Lake Washington; Kansas City, Missouri, extended its streetcar line to the city’s riverfront; and Atlanta opened that metro area’s first bus rapid transit line. The all-electric Midvalley Express BRT line “connects local destinations and planned developments” with the transit hub on the Taylorsville campus of Salt Lake Community College, UTA said. UTA’s two-mile-long S-Line streetcar, which runs alongside a bike and pedestrian greenway, has been in operation since 2013. It links residential and commercial areas and connects with UTA’s TRAX light rail system and transit bus lines. According to Manos, Dotsoft is a fast-growing technology company with a strong presence in both the Greek and international markets and extensive experience in delivering complex technology projects, particularly those involving Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, cloud infrastructure, data analytics and data management. The company’s flagship SmartisCity platform serves as a unified hub for the collection, management and analysis of real-time data from multiple sources and subsystems. Three-year business plan Dotsoft has developed a three-year business plan aimed at expanding its customer base in the private sector while focusing on its core smart-city activities, including waste management, energy and water resource management, and intelligent infrastructure management. According to Manos, DECA’s investment is expected not only to support the company in securing additional projects but also to strengthen its growth through acquisitions.
