Resonance Consultancy President and CEO Chris Fair described Jakarta as the world's second-most-populous metropolitan area that continues to dynamically evolve, despite structural challenges such as land subsidence and the ongoing relocation of Indonesia's capital to Nusantara. "Yes, the national capital is moving to Nusantara, but Jakarta's economic gravity is not," Fair said in a statement on Saturday. Jakarta ranked above Washington, D.C., which placed 57th, and Abu Dhabi, which came in 86th, but remained below cities such as Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur. London, New York, and Paris occupied the top three spots. Jakarta ranked 28th globally in the "lovability" category, supported by attractions such as the revitalized Jakarta Old Town, rooftop venues in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), and waterfront areas at Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK). The GIS mapping-based Digital Twin project, aimed at identifying unauthorised constructions and facilitating future development within the Kochi Corporation, will be taken forward in bursts covering five divisions at a time. The plan is to sustain the project through revenue recovered from such unauthorised structures, including through revenue recovery proceedings. The initiative, implemented by UL Technology Solutions (ULTS), the digital wing of the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), has already been completed in eight area-based development divisions identified under the Smart City project during the pilot phase. The pilot project report has been handed over to the Corporation. Mayor V.K. Minimol has suggested the feasible approach of covering five divisions at a time under the project, with an estimated cost of around ₹12 crore. “The project will go a long way in enhancing the Corporation’s own revenue. It will help identify all constructions carried out with the Corporation’s approval and is part of the civic body’s larger digital infusion to ensure quick and scientific development works,” she said. ULTS will deploy drones and single-engine aircraft equipped with LiDAR cameras that combine traditional photography with laser-based distance measurement to capture three-dimensional imagery of the entire Corporation area. “While the data generated is highly accurate, we also conduct door-to-door verification to reinforce its reliability, which can then be cross-checked with the Corporation’s asset register. Covering five wards may take three to six months depending on the deployed staff strength,” said ULTS sources. The company also plans to recruit and train college students for the project, thereby generating jobs as well. Their services could be utilised for periodic updates of data. On June 5, 2026, the WIPO Japan Office organized the WIPO GREEN Technology Forum 2026: Featuring Japan’s Innovations for a Sustainable Future. WIPO promotes the WIPO GREEN initiative to encourage the dissemination of green technologies and strengthen international collaboration. The Forum was held with the aim of promoting international matching between advanced environmental technologies developed by Japanese companies, universities and other institutions, and concrete technology needs in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly India and ASEAN, as well as the Middle East and Africa. It provided a platform to explore various forms of collaboration, including technology transfer, licensing, joint demonstration projects and research partnerships, in support of addressing global environmental challenges. 989 participants registered from Japan and around the world, including the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa, while around 80 participants attended in person, demonstrating strong international interest in environmentally sustainable technologies from Japan. Four Nevada cities are considered America's new 'boomtowns' There are few states as synonymous with boomtowns as Nevada — with towns that boomed into bustling cities less than a century ago, like Las Vegas, or towns that were abandoned as quickly as they were built, like Candelaria. SmartAsset, a financial technology company, said in a recent report that Nevada is still home to several boomtowns, or cities that "stand out for attracting people, investment and development at a pace that sets them apart." The list was compiled by analyzing more than 400 U.S. cities with populations of 65,000 or more. Each city received a score based on five-year changes in three factors: economic output, housing units and labor force size. Four Nevada cities landed in the 75 highest-scoring cities, which SmartAsset said represent America's new boomtowns. "Boomtown status does not mean growth benefits everyone equally, but it does reflect a city’s expanding economic capacity and the new opportunities that come with it," wrote Smart Asset. Chongqing- Experts from China, Singapore, Hungary, Brazil, and Australia said Chongqing's experience in infrastructure, industrial development, urban renewal, and grassroots governance offers a reference for Global South cities, while emphasizing that no development model can be copied without local adaptation. The remarks were made during a roundtable session held as part of the International Symposium on the Global Significance of Chinese Modernization in Chongqing on June 18. Alex Whitehead from the Western China International Communication Organization moderated the session, framing the discussion around how development consensus can move into local practice. He said the roundtable would examine Chongqing’s experience in infrastructure, digital governance, inland opening-up, industrial upgrading, and urban resilience, and explore its relevance for Global South countries. Vineeta Sinha, Director of the Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore, said China's infrastructure and digital economy have produced visible results, but their application in Southeast Asia requires local adjustment. She cited logistics centers, digital hubs, and e-commerce networks as areas where Chinese companies have been active in Southeast Asia, including Alibaba's logistics presence and digital hub development in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor. But she said Southeast Asian countries still face challenges in regulation, legal systems, privacy, and data localization. Sinha also pointed to Chongqing's infrastructure financing and urban development experience, saying the city had built world-class infrastructure and transformed its landscape into a futuristic metropolis without draining the city's budget. She said Southeast Asian countries could study the way Chongqing combined corporate mechanisms, land development, financing tools, and industrial policy. Zhou Yan, Professor at Fudan Development Institute and Director of the Global South Field Research Laboratory at Fudan University, drew on her field research in Brazil to explain why local conditions matter. While climate targets are determined at the national level, cities are the arena of action. They are the largest consumers of energy and the biggest generators of emissions. Globally, urban areas account for nearly 70 percent of energy use and more than 70 percent of carbon dioxide emissions.[1] Cities are where climate change directly intersects with development through land-use decisions, building regulations, transport systems, water and waste services, and municipal investment choices. Climate adaptation in cities is not only an environmental necessity but an economic and social imperative. For instance, extreme heat reduces labour productivity, floods damage assets and infrastructure, and water stress undermines industrial and household security. These conditions affect vulnerable populations much more, including residents of informal settlements, outdoor workers, women, older adults, and individuals with limited access to public services. At present, India’s climate strategy is shaped by its commitment to several international frameworks on sustainability and resilience. The first of these is the 1987 Brundtland Report, which drew attention to the challenges of urban growth and argued that environmental protection, economic development, and social equity need to be addressed in an integrated manner.[2] This thinking was reinforced at the 1992 United Nations (UN) Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where Agenda 21 encouraged local governments to prepare sustainability plans in consultation with communities and other stakeholders.[3] These frameworks established the expectation that cities would take responsibility for linking sustainability with development. In 2015, India became a signatory to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030), which sets out a protocol for integrating disaster risk reduction into national and local development strategies and urban planning.[4] India’s approach is also guided by the UN Sustainable Development

The Procurement Strategy Behind DuPont's 100% Renewable Feat DuPont, one of the world's premier manufacturers of advanced materials, has officially reached 100% renewable electricity at its US healthcare manufacturing facilities. The Delaware-based firm managed the feat by investing heavily in Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) – a mechanism that has formed a large part of its net zero strategy. These RECs, alongside DuPont's other sustainable initiatives, have helped it to slash Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, which are down 76% since 2019. More impressively however, the company has managed to reduce its Scope 3 emissions – generally considered the most difficult area of an organisation's operations to decarbonise – by 66% since 2020. Now, with DuPont's US facilities fully green, its leadership team will looking to replicate the same achievement globally. Inside the energy procurement process More than 50% of DuPont’s global electricity already comes from renewable sources, with all of its European manufacturing sites using only renewable electricity. Reaching this milestone in the US, the country where its physical footprint is greatest, will be particularly special for the firm's leaders though. "Achieving 100% renewable electricity at our US-based DuPont healthcare manufacturing facilities further contributes to our decarbonisation strategy and RE100 commitment," says Scott Collick, DuPont's CSO and VP of Sustainability & Regulatory Compliance. Dean Childers, who is Vice President and General Manager of DuPont Healthcare Solutions, points to the supply chain benefits of the company's decarbonisation. "Powering these additional US healthcare manufacturing facilities with renewable electricity is a meaningful step in advancing our sustainability commitments while enabling a more sustainable healthcare supply chain for the benefit of both our customers and patients," he says.
