India is witnessing a significant shift in its crime landscape. While overall crime levels have declined, cybercrime is emerging as a growing threat, reflecting the country's rapid digital transformation. According to a report by State Bank of India (SBI), India recorded 58.86 lakh cognizable crimes in 2024, marking a 6 per cent decline from the previous year. The all-India crime rate also fell from 448.3 to 418.9 per lakh population. The system was developed by RTA’s Public Transport Agency in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Centre at Corporate Technology Support Services. It operates on RTA’s Dataiku platform, enabling a proactive, data-driven operational approach across Dubai’s bus network. The dashboards integrate a suite of operational applications, including early-departure performance analysis, AI-powered trip cancellation prediction, rapid-response systems for metro service disruptions, and optimisation of short-turning operations. These solutions are now fully embedded in the Control Centre’s daily workflows. The initiative has delivered tangible results, most notably a reduction of more than 68% in early departures, sustained performance in line with global benchmarks, accelerated response through the immediate deployment of buses during metro service disruptions, and enhanced customer service through automated alert systems. Ramadass has said Mr Ramadass in a statement said that the conclusion of the Smart City Mission should not result in the loss of the valuable institutional capacity that has been built through the setting up of PSCDL. The development authority has executed around ₹ 586 crore project after the launch of the Smart City Mission in Puducherry, he said. “While executing large and complex projects, it has developed considerable expertise in project planning, preparation of detailed project reports, tendering, contract management, financial management, monitoring, evaluation, and coordination among multiple government agencies. The reality is that no such institution has so far been created in Puducherry. It would be unfortunate if the expertise accumulated through PSCDL is allowed to dissipate, he said. With a proper appreciation of the expertise available within this agency, the Government should consider establishing a permanent Project Development and Management Agency or a specialised Project Management Unit under the appropriate department. Recognising the importance of such agencies, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, government of India, has advised that Smart City agencies should be repurposed for other developmental functions. The population of Ongole Crossbred (PO) cattle, commonly known as Javanese cattle, is reportedly under increasing threat amid the rapid expansion of crossbred cattle. Yet this indigenous breed is highly adaptable to local environments and reproduces easily. Its primary limitation lies in its relatively small body size compared to other crossbred cattle. “This breed is native to Indonesia, particularly Java. These white cattle are highly adaptable and breed easily. Their only drawback is their smaller size,” said Professor Agung Budiyanto, Professor at the Department of Reproduction and Obstetrics, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM (FKH UGM), during a community development program based on applied research and community empowerment. This year, held in Bolu, Margokaton Village, Sleman, on Thursday (Jun. 4). In collaboration with the Mergo Andhini Makmur livestock farmers group in Seyegan, FKH UGM launched a program to conserve the genetic resources of Ongole crossbred cattle through smart farming technologies in reproduction, nutrition, and information digitalization. Through the application of reproductive technologies, nutrition management, animal health practices, and information digitalization, the program is expected to increase the population and productivity of PO cattle, supporting national beef self-sufficiency while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 2: Zero Hunger. KARACHI: A multi-domain summit organised by the Sindh Youth Affairs Department has featured detailed discussions by experts on topics including artificial intelligence (AI), investment, fintech, health, smart cities, digital innovation, youth leadership and opportunities in modern technology.
Titled ‘Karachi Next AI & Innovation Summit 2026, the summit was inaugurated by Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar here at a local hotel.
The event brought together people from diverse fields including government officials, CEOs, investors, developers and a large number of youth from across the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) Ali Rashid has said that the country’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) centre is being established in the metropolis. He said the Sindh IT Tower will also be launched soon.
Mr Rashid highlighted that the Sindh government was making significant progress in the field of IT. He shared that under the Peoples Information Technology Programme, youth are being provided IT training and employment opportunities.
During the summit, a session on ‘Youth Volunteers & Social Action Projects (SAP)’ was also held, where seven teams of young volunteers from across the province presented their social welfare projects.

While smart cities of the past were centered around large-scale servers, expensive sensors, and complex infrastructure, the smartphone itself has evolved into a powerful computing device and an AI terminal, ushering in an era where anyone can implement smart city functions at a relatively low cost. Smartphones already possess most of the core functions necessary for urban operations. While the system promises enhanced security and improved city services, its implementation has raised concerns among activists about privacy and the extent of surveillance in public spaces. Such concerns have become more pressing as biometric identification and large-scale data collection are increasingly integrated into public surveillance systems in the name of safety and smart city infrastructure. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh tells Digital Edge in an email interview that the CCTVs are supported by 16 artificial intelligence (AI) analytics, designed to empower Kuala Lumpur’s smart city systems, including KLCCC and its function as a unified municipal command hub. Part of a broader RM500 million investment in AI-powered city surveillance since 2020, the system “does not merely record. The City of Irvine has implemented an innovative pavement coating pilot program that extends the life of City streets while helping to reduce heat from the ground up. DuraShield Solar Reflective is a waterborne epoxy-modified acrylic grey pavement coating, similar to slurry seal. The coating is designed to reduce pavement surface temperature and may reduce ambient air temperatures. It also reduces UV and heat damage to pavement. In 2024, the City’s Public Works & Sustainability Department applied DuraShield Solar Reflective on San Juan and San Leon. Although it has been used in several other cities, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Miami, Irvine is the first Orange County city to apply the solar reflective pavement. Additional benefits include: - Reduces water penetration into pavement substrate. - Slows deterioration of pavement. - Retains high friction in wet and dry conditions. - Quickly cures, enabling traffic to get back on the street the same day and reduce tracking. - Does not affect driver glare. DuraShield is designed to last approximately seven years before it needs to be reapplied. City staff will monitor the pavement on San Juan and San Leon over the course of a year to analyze durability and surface and ambient air temperatures.
