Invest in the nuclear renaissance through our list of 90 elite nuclear energy infrastructure plays powering the global AI revolution. Viasat Investment Narrative Recap To own Viasat, you need to believe its heavy investment in global satellite capacity and mobility services can eventually translate into sustainable cash generation, despite ongoing losses and leverage pressure. The BMW in-car satellite voice trial showcases a new use case, but it does not materially change the near term focus on ViaSat 3 deployment and free cash flow risk, or the competitive threat from terrestrial and LEO networks in core broadband markets. The ViaSat 3 Flight 3 launch in April 2026 looks most relevant here, because the BMW voice calling concept relies on Viasat’s orbital assets and L band coverage to support connected-car and IoT services. Together, expanded capacity from ViaSat 3 and emerging automotive applications point to how Viasat could broaden its revenue mix beyond U.S. fixed broadband, even as high capital expenditure and integration costs remain a key overhang. Yet, while the BMW trial hints at

Hyundai keeps setting sales records. It seems like every time a month or a quarter wraps up, the South Korean brand announces some kind of sales record. Selling vehicles is certainly good, but sales don't always equal profits. And on that front, Hyundai has a very different story to tell. How different is the story? It's safe to say Hyundai executives are going over the numbers and working out ways to improve the bottom line, because the finances aren't setting any records. The big takeaway is that competition from Chinese rivals has hurt demand for Hyundai in Europe and Asia, which is a problem nearly all major automakers have to deal with. But Hyundai has plenty of other issues that are going to make the rest of the year just as tough to generate satisfying figures for shareholders. A Concerning Drop In Operating Profit Hyundai is still taking in plenty of money. Operating profit for the company was 2.85 trillion won ($1.9 billion), which is still substantial to say the least. But it's well short of analyst estimates of 3.1 trillion won ($2.1 billion). Moreover, second-quarter operating profit was down nearly 21% globally, at a time when it's setting sales records in the US, one of the largest automotive markets in the world. That's a big problem for Hyundai. That's because things aren't as rosy in other markets. Global deliveries for the first quarter were close to 991,000, down 6.9% from a year ago, with global retail sales falling 4.2% in the quarter. Mainly, that's through a 7% drop in sales for Europe and a 33% downturn in China. The news is decent for India and the US for Hyundai, with a 7% rise and 4 percent rise respectively. However, US tariffs are still hurting, with Hyundai claiming the tariffs

Twenty years ago, skyrocketing gas prices linked to a war in the Middle East spurred questions over how to minimize reliance on fossil fuels. (Sound familiar?) The topic rolled into cinemas with filmmaker Chris Paine’s documentary feature Who Killed the Electric Car? It was the directorial debut for the environmental activist and proud lessee of the EV1, launched by GM in 1996 as one of the first American mass-produced electric vehicles before being discontinued and recalled by the early 2000s. Friends encouraged Paine to make a film to assess blame; he enlisted Martin Sheen as narrator, with the star donating his salary to charity. Related Stories Independence Day producer Dean Devlin joined to honor his late dad’s love for the vehicle and connected the team with friend Mel Gibson, who spoke fondly about his own EV1; other voices included Ed Begley Jr., Ralph Nader and Phyllis Diller. Sony Pictures Classics acquired the project in November 2005 just before it got into Sundance, and hired Alex Gibney as a consulting producer following his Enron doc’s success. “Sony calls with Alex on the line, and it was a two-hour-long call [where] we all just listened,” producer Jessie Deeter recalls to The Hollywood Reporter. While the feedback was appreciated, it meant an overhaul to create more of an arc, and an editor was let go in the process. After its rousing Sundance premiere, the movie’s trailer ran ahead of doc hit An Inconvenient Truth, with its high profile leading GM to issue statements attempting to discredit Electric Car. It hit theaters on June 28, 2006, and THR’s review praised it as “highly charged [and] undeniably thought-provoking.” The feature collected $1.7 million ($2.9 million today), while Paine earned a WGA Award nom. The doc ends optimistically with a brief shot of the Tesla Roadster

Woman Drives New Chevrolet Trailblazer. Then Her iPhone Updates. Then Apple CarPlay Stops Working "The next option is to set the car on fire." Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been gamechangers in the car industry. Before the debut of this software, trying to get your phone to work in your car involved navigating a complex maze of proprietary menus. Not only that, but the lack of uniformity between vehicles meant that every one worked, and looked, a little bit different—making it difficult to figure out how to set up your phone in a new car. Now, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have largely become standard. However, that doesn’t mean that they always work as designed, as one user on TikTok recently shared. What’s Wrong With Her Chevrolet? In a video with over 49,000 views, TikTok user Kenz (@_kenzzzb) details a recent problem she’s been having with her Chevrolet Trailblazer. According to her, the problem is her Apple CarPlay. “I get in my car, it automatically connects to my phone, okay? I don't have to plug it in,” she starts. “Except, half the time now, this is what it does.” She then goes to her settings and turns Apple CarPlay off and on. Then she tries to connect to her phone. The screen plays a loading animation, but does not start Apple CarPlay. “I've turned my car on and off, tried to reset the Apple Carplay. Turned my Bluetooth on and off on my phone,” she explains. “Then, if I plug it in with the cord, then it connects to the screen here—but the audio plays through my phone.” After noting that she’s tried updating the car’s software, she says CarPlay still does not work. “So, the next option is to set the car on fire,” she jokes. Is This

5 Upcoming Mahindra SUVs Set to Redefine the Brand’s Portfolio in India - Team Autopunditz - 3 hours ago - 3 min read Mahindra has been on a remarkable growth trajectory over the past few years, dominating the SUV market with products like the Scorpio N, Thar Roxx, XUV 3XO, XUV 7XO, BE 6 and XEV 9e. The Upsides And Downsides Of Over-The-Air Software Updates For Modern Cars The auto industry has never stood still, but the shift from hardware to software has arguably been one of the biggest changes it's ever gone through. Today's connected vehicles contain millions of lines of code which control everything from infotainment through to driver-assistance features and battery management. As a result, maintaining a modern car no longer stops at oil changes and replacing tired hardware, it also revolves around updating software, too. Over-the-air (OTA) updates have become a key part of this new approach, enabling customers to download fixes and improvements remotely, much in the same way as a smartphone updates without needing an in-person visit. Benefits of this new approach in the automotive world include skipping the hassle of dealership visits, the chance to receive new features post-purchase, and performance improvements too. If that all sounds great, that's because it generally is, but OTA updates aren't perfect. Interrupted or failed updates can sometimes render the vehicle immobile, requiring the vehicle systems to be reset or even replaced, plus incomplete updates can also result in battery drain, while rushed updates can sometimes introduce more bugs than they fix. Furthermore, a connected vehicle also poses a cybersecurity and privacy risk. Throughout this article, we explore the various pros and cons. OTA updates save time and hassle This has to be the main appeal of OTA updates for owners of compatible cars, as taking time out of the week to visit the dealer for a safety recall to be carried out is a frustrating prospect for many. The convenience of OTA updates has enabled more owners to keep their cars updated, with Renault estimating that between 85 and 90% of its OTA-applicable vehicles are fully updated, in comparison to its estimated 60%

- A number of Chinese automakers want to enter the United States. - Some have even suggested they’d be willing to build plants here. - Polestar built in South Carolina and was still banned after 2026. Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng recently announced his desire to launch the brand in the United States and suggested the company could even build factories here. However, he acknowledged the political climate isn’t conductive to such a move. That brings us to our question of the day: should Chinese automakers be allowed in the United States if they build vehicles here? It sounds like a win-win as consumers would get new options and potentially lower prices. New plants could also generate thousands of jobs and even more would be created locally thanks to new dealerships across the country. More: Xpeng CEO Eyes US Launch, Suggests Company Could Build Plants In America On top of that, there would be new investment in the United States and new tax dollars for the government to collect. That’s something the Trump administration has been seeking and the President himself has said “If they want to come in and build the plant and hire you and hire your friends and your neighbors, that’s great. I love that. Let China come in.” Unfortunately, Polestar did exactly that as the 3 SUV was built in Ridgeville, South Carolina alongside the Volvo EX90. In May, Volvo was granted a waiver that prevents their vehicles and technology from being banned under the Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain: Connected Vehicles rule. However, Polestar didn’t get a waiver so they’re leaving the United States at the end of the 2026 model year. The company will continue to sell their existing inventory of the 3 and 4, but that’s it. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a reckless driving incident that ended with a Toyota crashing off the freeway into a field. On the afternoon of July 23, 2026, CHP responded to a report of a Toyota sedan driving recklessly in the Willows area. The Toyota reportedly hit speeds of 90 m.p.h. “just before it attempted to thread the needle between two semi trucks.” CHP said that the Toyota struck the rear of the truck in the slow lane while the motorist was attempting to merge into the fast lane. The impact of this crash caused the Toyota to spin into the fast lane, where it was “crunched into the side of the other big rig.” The collisions sent the Toyota off the freeway into a field. Troopers said the Toyota driver was hospitalized with minor injuries. The truck drivers were not hurt. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. “Even when you are in a rush, resist the urge to drive at unsafe speeds in an attempt to get to your destination faster. As this driver learned, a totaled car and an ambulance ride to the hospital greatly increases the time of your trip,” said CHP.

Chinese EVs Are Coming To Canada – But Will You See Them In The US? Consumers in North America have had their eyes on Chinese electric vehicles for a while now. After all, Chinese EVs are much cheaper than American ones. They're also becoming insanely convenient; China's new sodium-ion EV battery can fully charge in just 11 minutes. However, Chinese vehicles are effectively banned in the United States due to a series of policies that outlaw the nation's software and hardware, as well as prohibitively high tariffs on the actual vehicles. North of the border, though, is a different story because China is sending its EVs to Canada. The deal with China is slated to bring up to 49,000 EVs into Canada in 2026 at a reduced tariff rate. In fact, 2,910 Chinese EVs already arrived in May 2026. Records from Transport Canada indicate that BYD — the Chinese company on track to becoming the most popular electric vehicle brand in the world — is already cleared as a vehicle importer in Canada as well. Does this mean that you'll start to see Chinese EVs in the U.S.? The Trump administration has not made any indication of pursuing a similar tariff deal with China in regard to EV imports, but you might see Canadian drivers crossing the border in their foreign-made vehicles — for a while, at least. It is currently legal to cross the border in a Chinese EV, but Congress introduced legislation in June that aims "to prohibit the entry into the United States of connected vehicles associated with foreign adversaries." Why is Canada importing Chinese EVs now? The tariff-quota deal between Canada and China comes at a great time for the Chinese side, as its EV companies have moved beyond just building cars out of necessity for

This European Tesla is the ultimate electric SUV, but there’s a catch… The Tesla Model Y is one of the most popular electric vehicles globally. In fact, it was the first full EV to top Australia’s monthly sales charts in May and June. Now, the flagship Model Y Performance variant has been re-introduced to the medium SUV that was refreshed in early 2025. The Tesla Model Y Performance is an attempt at being the ultimate car – fit for drivers, families, and running cost conscious buyers. The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Golden Gate Division shared a peek at some of the violations discovered during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Operation Safe Driver Week campaign earlier this month. Operation Safe Driver Week took place throughout North America from July 12 — 18, 2026. The annual campaign focuses on enforcement and education to reduce unsafe driving behaviors committed by passenger and commercial vehicle drivers. On July 23, CHP’s Golden Gate Division shared early results from this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week effort. CHP said that the Commercial Operations Unit (COU) was focused on trucks bypassing scales, trucks off-route, speeding, driving in the left lanes, and other driver violations. Once the trucks were stopped for these violations, a mechanical inspection would be conducted to check for equipment violations. The Golden Gate Division’s COU stopped 408 commercial vehicles and located a combined total of 962 violations on those trucks. Additionally, 81 of the stopped commercial vehicles were ordered out-of-service for various violations. “Commercial vehicle enforcement is vital to keeping California’s roadways safe by ensuring commercial drivers, vehicles, and motor carriers comply with laws and standards designed to keep people safe. Our proactive enforcement and inspections help reduce the risk of preventable crashes and ultimately protect not just commercial drivers, but everyone who shares our roads,” said the Golden Gate Division. Check out CHP’s photos from the Operation Safe Driver Week campaign below.
