Given my argument that AI will drive the next wave of upstream traffic, are we headed toward more of a superscaled peer-to-peer model, away from the hub-and-spoke, client-server architecture that underlies the web? And what technologies or business models does that require? AI, as we have come to know it, will seep into everything the way cloud and mobile did. It has to, because we are incapable of processing the machine-scale information, data, and processes of the post-digital world at a human scale. The client-server model was built for human-scale consumption. A person makes a request. A server answers. The session ends. That worked for so long. But now it doesn’t. Everything is always on, and needs to be in touch with other devices, software, storage and servers all the time. Whether it is security updates in our home routers, or resident intelligence in the security camera, everything will happen in an invisible fashion. Every simple thing is so big and complex. It’s really strange to think we are still looking for the big bang app, when what’s actually happening is a death by a thousand cuts. Each small upstream flow (your doorbell, your connected car, your AI assistant syncing its context, your workflow checking in with a model) is individually negligible. Codenamed 520, the new MG SUV is expected to be based on the Xingguang 560 SUV, which is sold in China. Likely to be called the MG Starlight 560, the SUV will come with 7-seats configurations and measure longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO. MG’s first plug-in hybrid SUV is scheduled to arrive during the festive season this year, possibly by October. Prices of the Starlight 560 SUV are expected to start around Rs 18 for the base variant, and go up to Rs 30 lakh for the fully-loaded top variant. Leaked patented images and spy shots suggest that the MG Starling 560 will have an upright and boxy stance, complemented by an aggressive-looking front fascia. It will feature a large blacked-out grille, LED headlamps with LED DRL strips running above and under them, a sporty bumper and a pronounced skid plate. What began as a hardware‑led industry - defined by wired devices, manual installations and vehicle‑agnostic sensors - is now being reshaped by connected vehicles, cloud platforms due to the rapid transition from internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric vehicles (EVs). Over the next decade, connected vehicle telematics will outstrip wired telematics as the primary foundation for fleet insight by the structural change in how vehicles are built, powered and managed. This spells the beginning of a new hierarchy. Traditional wired telematics evolved to solve ICE‑specific problems and became the operating system of fleet management—powering routing, safety, compliance, maintenance, and utilization across mixed fleets, but this model is now changing with the advent of vehicle electrification. The rise of the connected vehicle Modern vehicles - especially EVs - are software‑defined platforms, designed from the outset to be connected, updatable and data‑rich. Connected vehicle telematics are built into the vehicle at the factory to include embedded cellular connectivity, native sensors and controllers, OEM‑managed cloud platforms and secure APIs that expose vehicle data externally. This fundamentally changes where telematics value is created. Instead of extracting data from hardware installed after manufacture, connected telematics generate data as part of the vehicle’s design. Apple’s digital car key rollout just reached another major luxury automaker, as Porsche now officially supports Apple Wallet car keys on its latest electric vehicles, giving drivers a faster way to lock, unlock, and start their cars using an iPhone or Apple Watch. The feature is now available on the 2026 Porsche Macan Electric, while the upcoming 2026 Cayenne Electric will gain support when deliveries begin later this year. Porsche had already confirmed support for Apple’s car key system, but the feature only started appearing widely after the Macan EV became available in more markets. Apple’s Wallet car key system has expanded slowly since launch, but momentum picked up over the past year as brands like Toyota and Rivian added support. Porsche now joins that growing list, while General Motors still has not rolled out support for Chevrolet, Cadillac, or GMC despite earlier promises. Porsche explains the feature in its official support documentation: “The Porsche Digital Key is a digital car key on your mobile device that you can use to lock, unlock and start your Porsche conveniently and securely. You can also share the digital key securely with others, making access easy and flexible.” The company says the feature works with compatible iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android devices, though users must first complete several setup requirements, including an active Porsche ID, Porsche Connect services, Bluetooth enabled, and the physical key inside the vehicle during setup.
