MIAMI — An FBI investigation is unfolding Wednesday at a business in the city of Miami. A Local 10 News crew was outside Cube Motors -- a used car dealership and auto repair shop -- on Northwest 79th Street, between Third and Fourth Avenue, as agents were seen mostly inside the business’ gate. Employees at a gym next door said agents rolled in around 6:10 a.m. and announced they were with the FBI, but the law enforcement presence didn’t impact classes at the gym. Agents were seen circling some vehicles outside Cube Motors, taking pictures of the vehicles and checking VIN numbers. Some cars received an X on the windows and were eventually towed away, including a Nissan, BMW, Tesla and others. Members of the Department of Homeland Security and the National Insurance Crime Bureau were also at the scene. A K-9 was also spotted sniffing along the fence line. Local 10 saw agents questioning at least two men. Both had handcuffs on at one point, but they’ve since been removed. It’s unclear what the investigation is about. The business opens daily at 8 a.m., but people were there by 6 a.m. to be questioned as part of the investigation. No roadways in the area are being impacted by the investigation at this time. Ahead of President Trump’s Beijing trip, lawmakers warn a deal that lets Chinese automakers in risks “decimating U.S. manufacturing.” Dozens of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives are urging the Trump administration to safeguard the domestic auto industry from unfair Chinese competition. That’s the gist of a letter released Wednesday that was sent to the White House ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing next week, where he will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Despite assurances otherwise, there are persistent concerns that U.S. auto market access for Chinese manufacturers will be on the table when the leaders meet. “The automotive industry is a foundational piece of the U.S. economy, contributing upwards of 5 percent of U.S. GDP and generating millions of manufacturing jobs across the country,” reads the letter. “The U.S. auto industry is reaching a critical inflection point, as global dynamics and shifts in policy create opportunities for heavily subsidized Chinese automakers to gain momentum using non-market tactics. If Chinese automotive companies were granted access to manufacture and sell vehicles and batteries in the U.S., we risk decimating U.S. manufacturing, eroding global market share for U.S. auto companies, and leaving consumers and businesses exposed to serious cybersecurity and surveillance threats. This is not a winning strategy.” The House Republicans aren’t wrong; we made those arguments in a video explainer earlier this week. But it’s not just us saying it. Hunter Engineering has released the latest coverage for its alignment, ADAS and inspection equipment. The new vehicle information database update is available as of May 4. The release covers 536 brand new records, including the 2026 Ford Mustang, 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA and 2027 Kia Telluride, along with 2,338 OEM updates to existing records since the final 2025 update.
Software Features
The release incorporates updates to software features, including the tools and kits database, TPMSpecs database and reset procedures, VIN recall support, adjustment assistance and ADAS calibration procedures.
WebSpecs Access and Installation
For more frequent updates, customers may download new specifications on demand through the included WebSpecs feature, as well as view adjustment illustrations and other resources. To schedule installation, Hunter customers should contact their technical and training representative.
More than 100,000 units are installed worldwide, including hundreds of OEM facilities. The software is available in 42 languages and includes a three year warranty.

The threat to domestic manufacturers and workers is immense, AAM argues in a new video. President Donald Trump is scheduled next week to visit China – the first trip there by an American president since the last time he went in 2017 – for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Before he leaves, the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) is urging the Trump administration and Congress to make sure the U.S. auto market is not on the table during any potential trade negotiations. In a video released this week, AAM President Scott Paul lays out the threat to the domestic auto industry that competition from heavily subsidized Chinese automobiles represents. “Beijing engineered its auto dominance on a foundation of state cash and strategic overcapacity,” Paul says. “Now, it’s taking aim at the U.S. market. We’re asking every American who cares about their job, their privacy, their community, and their nation to make their voice heard in Washington before it’s too late.” Paul points to three big reasons surging Chinese automakers should be denied entry to the U.S. The first is its auto sector’s well-documented overcapacity – factories running on overtime despite weak internal demand – that effectively allows China to export its unemployment problems. The second are the national security concerns inherent in letting Chinese-made connected vehicles – loaded with software, microphones and cameras – roam the United States. It would also block the use of connected vehicle software, data systems and hardware developed or linked to those nations, including products tied to joint ventures or affiliated entities. The Department of Commerce would gain authority to identify and block high-risk technologies and enforce compliance. Moreno called the legislation a necessary defense against “predatory and massively subsidized Chinese state enterprises,” while Slotkin described Chinese vehicles as “surveillance packages on wheels” capable of collecting data on American citizens and sensitive sites. Both senators framed the bill as protecting not only national security but also the economic footing of domestic automakers and their workers. Industry and labor groups moved quickly to back the proposal. For instance, UAW President Shawn Fain said the legislation builds on existing connected vehicle rules and puts “common sense guardrails” on a threat to the nation’s auto industry. Meanwhile, General Motors said it supports policies that protect American manufacturing and ensure a level competitive playing field. China is exporting electric vehicles of all types in staggering numbers. Export volumes of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) all reached highs in 2025, with 2026 data through March indicating continued growth. If oil disruptions persist due to the war in Iran, it may provide an additional, powerful tailwind for Chinese EV exports. Democracies around the world, however, face an uneasy and complicated dilemma when it comes to importing Chinese-made “connected vehicles,” or vehicles that are internet-connected and subject to potential cyber threats. Countries that refuse to import Chinese vehicles, especially electric vehicles, risk compounding economic damages from an extended oil crisis and stalling progress against other security threats, including climate change. On the other hand, large-scale imports could undermine domestic industries, lead to consolidation of yet another supply chain node in China, and expose cyber vulnerabilities to exploitation by a powerful adversary. Today’s oil shock may accelerate global dependence on Chinese connected vehicles, forcing democracies into a tradeoff between short-term relief and long-term cybersecurity and industrial risks. When it comes to grappling with Chinese automotive exports, there is no easy answer, but countries can put measures in place to mitigate risks. Charting Chinese EV exports Chinese EV and battery investment overseas Chinese automakers are not only exporting abroad but expanding their influence via investments in manufacturing facilities and partnerships abroad. The Chinese auto giant Geely intends to enter the US market despite trade barriers, and Beijing’s recent deal with Canada will allow the entry of 49,000 Chinese EVs to the Canadian market at a tariff rate of 6.1 percent. According to the Rhodium group, Chinese firms that make zero-emission vehicles—which are overwhelmingly BEVs rather than hydrogen fuel cell—invested more abroad than domestically in 2024 at around $16 billion, primarily in battery production.

The simple answer is that U.S. automakers decided the best way to combat the rising costs of unionized labor, which has secured massive gains, and ballooning material expenses was to chase the higher profit margins that come from the bigger SUVs, now the vehicle of choice for a broad swath of Americans. We’d also add that decades of protectionist policies in the U.S. auto industry and a lack of fresh competition have not exactly been to the advantage of American consumers.
