‘The Alien’ who has ‘Been Everywhere’ | iRacing Community Spotlight: Karl Samson August 25th, 2026 by Justin Melillo As of iRacing’s 2026 Season 3 build, there are so many different pieces of content available to license, with more than 150 tracks across the world and over 180 different vehicles to jump into and race with. Last month, on July 27th, 2026, iRacing member Karl Samson managed to complete something that almost the entire member base hasn’t done, or many have tried and failed to do—win a race at every track and win a race in every car under Official Series racing. These two different iRacing Awards—”The Alien” award and the “I’ve Been Everywhere” award— are two of the hardest achievements to complete on iRacing, taking not only time to do, but the skill to do as well. Not many have been able to achieve one or the other. Karl did them both, and recently, he sat down with me for a chat about what it took to earn that accomplishment. Karl, thank you so much for joining me today. Firstly, tell me a little bit about yourself! I’m from Christchurch, New Zealand. I work in insurance and I’ve been sim racing for about eight years now. Eight years… so about when you started your iRacing journey? That is the entirety of my online sim racing. Were you doing any offline racing? Did you play any other racing games before? Well, so as a kid, yes, Because I’m old, I played the original Microprose Grand Prix, and in the late teens, I played the first four versions of Forza Motorsport, but that was all offline, no online stuff. When I got a rig, I dabbled in some Assetto Corsa and Automobilista for a couple of months before starting iRacing, but everything

Road Kings will be released on 11th March 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Confirmed as part of the Gamescom Opening Night presentation, the truck simulation will see players explore and complete jobs across the American South.
Published by Focus Interactive, alongside CLUTCH, it uses Saber Interactive’s game tech (seen in the likes of Expeditions, Snow Runner and the upcoming Stuntman: Hollywood) to deliver dynamic weather.
This comes in the form of extreme storm conditions and evolving road surfaces that can cause punctures. Consequently, saving communities and delivering key supplies will be among the mission types, which differentiates it from most other similar titles.
Haulage drivers will also have to manage regular delivery jobs, keeping an eye on cash reserves and job requests, without alerting the cops to any poor driving. Driver scheduling and rest stops must be managed, including sleep stops.
Traxion tested an early build last year on a setup with a truck-specific wheel, and the option of manually selecting between the 18 gears. Back then, it was slated for a 2026 release.

Rennsport is planning to introduce a significant update next month, with the ‘Kings of the Ring’ patch arriving in September. The plan is to deliver content, but more notably, quality-of-life changes for the cross-platform sim racing game. AI and FFB changes One of the fundamental issues with Rennsport is the offline single-player experience, which is blighted by some of the most incompetent AI-controlled rivals in gaming. Random roll-overs, inconsistent pace and bizarre behaviour were evident at launch. Improvements have been made since then, but there’s still a lot of work to do. This next update aims to establish a “robust, reliable new baseline”, according to the developers, eradicating “major instances of erratic behaviour.” It’s needed. Naturally, work is expected to continue after the September update, with publisher Competition Company confirming additional resources for the AI team. Force feedback is also set for tweaks in the upcoming release, targeting “overly soft” response for Logitech devices ahead of further FFB work in subsequent launches. New paid content Strangely, as the name suggests, ‘Kings of the Ring’ will include the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Which, you may ask, ‘Wait, isn’t the Nürburgring Nordschleife already in Rennsport?’ Well yes, it is. But it’s currently behind the Deluxe Edition only. So, presumably, this is now just the ‘Green Hell’ loop for all players? Or a slightly different layout? We’ve approached Rennsport for clarification. It’s at that same October event where it will share “ambitious goals for Rennsport for the remainder of the year.” It has also announced that its plan for further community-created mod tracks has been pushed back while it works on the “core game experience.” Discussion

SIMAGIC has officially launched the TB-Neo, a new modular sim racing handbrake featuring a 100 kg load cell, adjustable elastomer resistance and optional hydraulic and haptic upgrades for $139. SIMAGIC has expanded its NEO hardware range with the launch of the TB-Neo Handbrake, a new force-based handbrake designed for rally, drifting and other disciplines where progressive control is important. Priced at $139, the TB-Neo uses a 100 kg load cell rather than relying primarily on lever travel to measure input. SIMAGIC is positioning the new model around modularity, allowing users to change its mechanical resistance and later add hydraulic damping or telemetry-driven haptic feedback without replacing the complete unit. The TB-Neo is available now through SIMAGIC and its authorized retailers. 100kg Load Cell and Adjustable Resistance At the centre of the TB-Neo is a 100 kg load cell, combined with a 12-bit sensor providing 4,096 input steps. SIMAGIC says the handbrake also uses its Full-Range Adaptive Sensing Technology, based around a cascaded amplification circuit intended to preserve detail across both lighter and heavier inputs. Rather than using a fixed resistance configuration, the TB-Neo incorporates an elastomer-based system similar in concept to SIMAGIC’s P1000 pedal platform. Users can combine different elastomers to alter the resistance curve and overall lever feel, with the company’s P-ORP elastomers also compatible between the two products. Travel, spring tension, resistance, dead zone and response linearity can all be adjusted. The main structure combines a die-cast aluminium body with CNC-machined components, while the handle itself uses POM material. The complete unit measures 209.5 x 73.5 x 382.5 mm and weighs 1.36 kg. Hydraulic and Haptic Upgrades The most distinctive feature of the TB-Neo is its upgrade path. SIMAGIC has designed mounting points into the handbrake for the company’s P-HPR and P-HPR GT haptic reactors, allowing telemetry-generated effects

The debate around Gran Turismo 7’s new physics model has raged all week, but one notable endorsement has arrived from an unusual place: the top step of a Super GT podium. Yusuke Tomibayashi, who made history in 2022 as the first Japanese sim racer to compete in Super GT, took his maiden victory in the series this past weekend, sharing the #9 Pacific Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO with Yuta Fujiwara in the GT300 class at the Suzuka GT 300km race. It was a proper statement drive, too: Tomibayashi put the car on pole by just 0.004 seconds, then opened up a commanding lead after taking over from Fujiwara at the pit stop. He stretched the margin to around 15 seconds before a late Safety Car brought the field home. Celebrating the win on social media, Tomibayashi credited a training tool familiar to GTPlanet readers. As translated from Japanese, “I was able to put the results of driving Suzuka tens of thousands of laps in Gran Turismo to use. Thank you so much!! The new handling is also very similar to the real car, so it’s great.” Of course, “the new handling” refers to the physics changes introduced in update 1.71 just last week, which our community has been picking apart in detail ever since. Opinions range from drifters calling it a ten-out-of-ten, to rally fans mourning the state of dirt racing, so a real-world GT300 winner’s opinion carries some weight. Tomibayashi knows both sides of this equation better than most. Before he racing real cars professionally, he won the FIA-backed Manufacturer Fan Cup at GT Sport’s 2016 unveiling event in London alongside Spain’s Carlos Martínez, a precursor to what would become the FIA Gran Turismo Championships. He earned his racing license in 2018, collected a string of national titles,

New Delhi [India], August 25 : Four-time Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen, who recently extended his contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2030, will return to his racing roots on September 16. At the Silverstone circuit in England, he will attempt to chase down 100 drivers. The challenge is set to become the world's biggest go-kart race, according to a release. Like many F1 champions, Dutchman and Red Bull Athlete Max Verstappen started out racing go-karts at just four years old in his bid to reach the top of the motorsports world and competed in championships at the age of seven. After dominating in Belgium and the Netherlands, he reeled off a string of World and European titles culminating in a spectacular 2013 season that soon propelled him into the Formula One ranks. This time around, Verstappen will not be pitted against other drivers, but against 100 competitors who are a mix of fellow sports stars, streamers, personalities, and everyday fans invited from around the world. Red Bull athletes, including ultrarunner Arda Saatci, basketball shooting phenomenon Chris "Lethal Shooter" Matthews, and British freestyle mountain biker Matt Jones, will line up on the grid alongside Red Bull streamers TheGrefg, Caedrel and TheDonato as Max aims to chase down every single go-kart ahead of him. Before the titles and the records came the karts, the training ground where the fundamentals of his racing were set. Max, 28, explained: "In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking. Of course, I spent a long period of my

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi says tire simulation remains Polyphony Digital’s most difficult physics challenge, with contact-patch behavior and tire graining still not fully reproduced. Almost three decades after the original Gran Turismo, Polyphony Digital is still trying to solve one of the most complex problems in racing simulation: how a tire behaves at the point where it meets the road. Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi discussed the subject in a wide-ranging interview with evo, published on August 22. Although the interview was conducted earlier in the year during the FAT Ice Race in Austria, Yamauchi’s comments provide a rare insight into the areas where Polyphony believes its current physics simulation still falls short of reality. According to Yamauchi, suspension systems, transmissions, differentials and other mechanical components can now be simulated with relatively little discrepancy compared with the real world. Tires remain a fundamentally more difficult problem. Tire Contact and Graining Remain Difficult to Simulate Modern tire simulation involves significantly more than assigning a fixed amount of grip to each compound. Polyphony must account for deformation, different tire dimensions and compounds, temperature changes, wear, track conditions and road surfaces. Complicating matters further, Yamauchi notes that tire manufacturers do not necessarily disclose everything about how their products behave, leaving developers to construct mathematical models from the information and measurements available to them. One particularly difficult area is how the tire’s contact point with the road changes dynamically. Heat and wear alter the available grip, while different conditions can produce physical effects that are difficult to reproduce accurately in software. Yamauchi highlighted tire graining as one example that Gran Turismo does not yet fully simulate: “The level of grain that happens when you have certain conditions on the track, it’s something that we just don’t have yet.” Graining occurs when stresses on

MOZA Racing has teased a new Porsche product for Gamescom 2026, with the first image strongly pointing towards the return of its 911 GT3 RS-inspired steering wheel first shown a year ago. MOZA Racing has added another major manufacturer to its growing list of Gamescom 2026 teasers, announcing a new MOZA Racing x Porsche reveal ahead of the Cologne show. The company published the first teaser on August 25 with the message: “Inspired by a legend. MOZA Racing × Porsche. A new icon arrives at Gamescom 2026.” While MOZA has not yet named the product, the accompanying image reveals enough of the steering wheel to make a strong connection with hardware the company first displayed at Gamescom 2025. The teaser shows a circular Porsche steering wheel with a gold centre marker, Porsche crest, MOZA branding and a control layout that closely resembles the Porsche Sim Racing Steering Wheel inspired by the Porsche 911 GT3 RS unveiled by MOZA last year. The Porsche wheel first appeared at Gamescom 2025 MOZA originally unveiled its Porsche Sim Racing Steering Wheel at Gamescom 2025 as an officially licensed product inspired by the road-going Porsche 911 GT3 RS. At the time, the wheel featured an eco-friendly microfiber grip, carbon fibre-reinforced construction and a 2.99-inch HD display integrated into the centre. The screen was designed to support customizable dashboards through MOZA Pit House, alongside configurable RGB lighting and an extensive collection of controls. MOZA announced 12 RGB buttons, four rotary encoders, two seven-way funky switches, four thumbwheels and two additional rear buttons. Magnetic forged-carbon paddles with Hall sensors provided shifting and dual-clutch functionality, with the design capable of expanding to a total of six paddles. An aluminium quick-release system was also part of the original specification, while compatibility with third-party wheelbases was planned through MOZA’s Universal

A race recap can have strong footage and still feel flat. The cars are fast, the passes are dramatic, and the finish matters, yet the edit does not carry the same energy. Music can turn a collection of clips into a sequence that feels intentional. For small motorsport creators, local teams, sim-racing channels, or event pages, producing custom music for every video may not be practical. Tools such as AI Song offer another option: describe a musical direction or provide lyrics, then generate a track around that brief. The goal is not the loudest soundtrack. It is music that matches the race story. Edit the Story Before Choosing the Sound Race footage naturally tempts editors to start with high-energy music. That works for some clips, but not every race tells the same story. A comeback drive feels different from a dominant win. Wet qualifying feels different from a clean sprint. A garage video may need patience rather than constant intensity. Before choosing music, write a one-line edit summary: “Slow opening, tense middle after a pit issue, then a fast final-lap recovery.” That sentence gives you a musical map. The opening may need restraint, the middle can add tension, and the final section can lift without starting at maximum energy. It prevents choosing a powerful song first and forcing every clip to match it. Three Race Video Formats Need Three Different Music Decisions The same track rarely suits a race recap, social teaser, and technical breakdown equally well. - The Full Race Recap A recap needs room for changes in pace. You may show the start, incidents, pit stops, overtakes, and the finish. Music with some development can help connect those moments. Do not judge the track only by its first ten seconds. Listen for whether it gives the editor somewhere

- Simagic TB-Neo is a load cell-equipped handbrake
- Can be upgraded with optional haptic and hydraulic modules
- Priced at $139 and available to order now
Simagic has revealed its new handbrake, the TB-Neo, featuring a 100 Kg load cell, adjustable elastomer feel and an upgradeable, modular system.
The last point is crucial, as the TB-Neo is Simagic’s latest entry in its UP+ modular ecosystem, which includes shifter paddles, steering wheels and hydraulic and haptic feedback accessories.
This means the TB-Neo can be fitted with an optional hydraulic module to simulate the feel and resistance of a real hydraulic handbrake, while Simagic’s optional P-HPR haptic module can also be attached to add tactile feedback to its operation.
Players can then customise the feel and feedback characteristics of both to tune the TB-Neo to their preference, with its aluminium alloy chassis able to be mounted vertically or horizontally to a cockpit.
The standard TB-Neo should still offer a decent array of tuneability; however, thanks to adjustable travel and various grades of elastomers (included), you can combine them to create different sensations.

Four-times Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will return to his karting roots on Sept. 16 when he attempts to overtake 100 competitors in a specially created race at Silverstone Circuit. The "Max vs 100" event, organised by Red Bull, will put the Dutchman at the back of a 101-kart field and challenge him to pass every other driver on a purpose-built circuit at the British Grand Prix venue. The race will be broadcast live globally on Disney+, with coverage also available on the ESPN App for ESPN Unlimited subscribers in the United States before a delayed ESPN2 broadcast later in the day. Verstappen, who recently extended his contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2030, will face competitors drawn from sport, entertainment and the public, including Red Bull athletes, celebrities, content creators, personalities and fans invited from around the world. The event is built around the question of whether competitors can beat Verstappen when the odds are stacked against the Formula 1 champion through sheer weight of numbers. Verstappen began karting at the age of four and competed in championships from the age of seven. After success in Belgium and the Netherlands, he collected a series of World and European karting titles before a dominant 2013 season helped propel him towards Formula 1. For Verstappen, the event represents a return to the discipline where he developed many of the skills that later shaped his Formula 1 career. "In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking," Verstappen said. "Of course, I spent a long period of my life go-karting, so it's always nice to return. It's about understanding the grip of the go-kart. I've done so many years in go-karting that you quite naturally get back into things. I will be looking forward to just seeing

A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday, August 31. This is the first round of Daily Races since last week’s Update 1.71, and while none of the update’s four new arrivals show up in this week’s field, the bigger change is under the hood. 1.71 brought the largest physics overhaul to Gran Turismo 7 since 2024’s update 1.49, touching tire grip, suspension, and default setups across the board. For a lot of players, this week’s races will be the first time they’ve taken that new handling model into genuine online competition, so plan accordingly. Early impressions over in the forums’ GT7 Daily Race Discussion thread are already circling Race C at Sainte-Croix, as it will be the best place to see how the new physics affect tire wear. With a 7x tire multiplier and a mandatory switch between Racing Hards and Racing Mediums, it’s as good a proving ground for the new physics as any race this week. The other two races are more straightforward by comparison. Race A is an eight-lap sprint in the BMW M4 ’14 around Blue Moon Bay Speedway’s Infield A Reverse layout on Sports Medium tires, with a Grid Start and False Start Check meaning you’ll want to hold those brakes until the lights go out. Race B is six laps of Gr.3 racing around Autopolis International Racing Course on Racing Hard tires, with only brake balance open for tuning and nothing else to plan around. Tsunoda puts himself back on the F1 radar after just missing the points in Zandvoort Yuki Tsunoda impressed in his Dutch Grand Prix outing for Racing Bulls. In finishing P11 at Zandvoort he might not have made the points, but nevertheless Yuki Tsunoda was able to use his one-off appearance with Racing Bulls to put himself back on the radar of the Formula 1 pitlane. After his somewhat disastrous season with Red Bull in 2025 it was hard to imagine him ever finding a way back to a race seat. A solid Dutch Grand Prix weekend in an unfamiliar VCARB 03 served as a calling card though, reminding everyone that Tsunoda is one of the most experienced and best qualified drivers currently sitting on the sidelines. And while it’s hard to see a way forward in the Red Bull camp given the talent there – with F2 championship leader Nikola Tsolov waiting in the wings – his prospects of finding something elsewhere have to be better than they were prior to last weekend. Although he hadn’t raced since Abu Dhabi last December, Tsunoda has not been idle. Testing of Previous Car (TPC) runs in an older Red Bull chassis kept him sharp, and he’s spent a lot of time driving the current RB22 in the Milton Keynes simulator, which gave him a good insight into how to use the 2026 Ford power unit. The last minute nature of the Zandvoort decision meant that he was only able to try Racing Bulls' VCARB 03 in the sim on the Wednesday before the race, but that did at least give him a head start. After the single hour of FP1, it was straight into Sprint Qualifying. He was P13 in SQ1 and then P12 in SQ2, just behind Liam Lawson – the

Fanatec is currently promoting a range of sim racing hardware discounts across its European store, with reductions covering several of the most accessible products in its ecosystem. The company’s “Gear Up” promotion runs until August 30, with discounts on both versions of the CSL DD, the Gran Turismo DD Pro bundle, CSL Elite Pedals V2 and several steering wheels. The ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5 is also included. The discounts range from €30 to €80 depending on the product, with some of the most significant reductions affecting Fanatec’s entry-level Direct Drive options and PlayStation-compatible Gran Turismo bundle. Fanatec CSL DD drops to €299.95 The most relevant deals for PC users are on the two versions of the CSL DD QR2. The standard CSL DD QR2 5 Nm has been reduced from €329.95 to €299.95, a saving of €30. The stronger CSL DD QR2 8 Nm receives a larger €50 reduction, bringing its price down from €429.95 to €379.95. Both versions use Fanatec’s QR2 quick-release system and support FullForce, while the difference between them comes primarily from the power supply and resulting maximum torque. That €379.95 price makes the 8 Nm version particularly relevant in the current entry-to-mid-range Direct Drive market, where Fanatec is competing against newer wheelbases from MOZA, Thrustmaster and other manufacturers. The current Direct Drive offers are: - CSL DD QR2 5 Nm: €299.95 — previously €329.95 — save €30. - CSL DD QR2 8 Nm: €379.95 — previously €429.95 — save €50.
