SNOHOMISH COUNTY – Washington State Scholastic Esports Association (WSSEA) High School Esports State Championship is returning to Lynnwood, Washington, with a new location for 2026. This year the state championships will be at the Alderwood Mall. The WSSEA Main Event ’26 Esports will be Saturday, May 16, 2026. Thirty-two high school teams with over 250 students will be competing in the finals for Overwatch, Splatoon 3, and Smash Bros. Ultimate. High school teams from across Washington will compete in the spring season for the chance to make it to the finals for each game title. In addition to live gaming action, there will be family activities including SIM racing, game developers, and interactive booths. Students can talk with industry experts at the Career Fair Expo and connect with college esports coaches to learn about their programs. “Main Event ’26 is about so much more than who wins the championship in Overwatch, Smash, or Splatoon. When these teams walk into Alderwood Mall on May 16th, they’re representing their schools, their communities, and a generation of students who’ve found something they’re genuinely passionate about,” states Jake Voss, WSSEA Executive Direct. “We’ve seen the data, students in scholastic esports show up more to school, make more friends, and are more likely to pursue careers in technology and STEM. Last February, Kunos Simulazioni released version 0.5 of Assetto Corsa EVO, which added new circuits and vehicles to the game, but also divided the fan community by removing Career Mode—the main single-player attraction—as it looked to a future focused more on competitive play and the sandbox experience. It seems the feedback must have reached the boardroom of the Italian simulation studio because they have now released update 0.6 for Assetto Corsa EVO (thanks, Traxion), and this one does indeed appear to be seeking to build new bridges with players. You know Formula 1 has come a long way in the United States when you can walk into an IMAX movie theater and watch a freakin’ Grand Prix live. Heck, I remember when I used to have to add the “Speedvision” option to my mom’s cable TV package so I could watch a sport that was obscure to most Americans. Starting with the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, folks will be able to watch select 2026 races at IMAX theaters across the country. This new viewing modality is part of Apple TV’s new broadcasting strategy to grow the sport even more domestically. Folks who decide to make the pilgrimage to the theater rather than watch on Apple TV from home will be treated to a 150-minute broadcast, which includes 15 minutes of pre-show action, the full race, and podium celebrations. Poking around my local IMAX theater website, it looks like tickets will run $30 plus fees, though that’ll likely vary by location. For what it’s worth, I think the best part of this gig is the fact that you’ll be able to interact with fellow F1 fans, rather than be a hermit at home. God knows I’ve spent the last 30+ years of F1 fandom screaming at the TV alone, and oftentimes at odd hours of the night. The frame tubing that can be seen under the hood and in the trunk looks correct for some kind of stock car, but that’s not enough to confirm it as one of Kulwicki’s rides. And even it did start life in the late Cup Series champion’s shop, it could’ve been used as a show car or backup instead of getting raced. That would probably be for the best because, as cool as this setup is, cutting up a race-driven Kulwicki chassis would be a shame. Kulwicki is remembered today as the last truly independent NASCAR champion. He won the 1992 Cup Series championship driving for his own single-car team. That championship came down to the final race of the season, with Kulwicki changing the lettering on his Ford from “Thunderbird” to “Underbird” to signify his underdog status. A RACING simulator firm led by a teenager who is part of McLaren Formula 1 and his family is looking to bring cutting-edge technology to Droitwich. Edge Racing Simulators opened on North Bank Berry Hill Industrial Estate in December and offers petrol heads the chance to race on some of the biggest circuits in the world. Edge Racing is the brainchild of Charlie Edge, a 2025/2026 FIA British Formula 4 driver with CDR, and his brother Jordan, who is a keen sim racer. They run the business with their father Steve. Charlie, now with the McLaren Formula 1 development programme , used simulators during his racing career and thought people who enjoyed the sport would like to use them. Edge offers simulators for people to race in competitions from Formula 4 to Formula 1, as well as other forms of racing like rallies. And the firm aims to allow people to experience the raw power, precision, and pressure of real motorsport. Steve told the Standard: “Our simulators are really state-of-the-art, and we have simulators that can accommodate everyone. “It will give people a real racing experience. “I’m really proud of my sons for setting this up and also Charlie for being in the McLaren Formula 1 development programme. “It’s really exciting and a lot of hard work. “The business is going okay so far – weekends are always the busiest times for us but of course, we could always do with more people coming. “We would like to get our name out to other people from other areas, as well as those in Droitwich.” The maximum height simulators are for people over 5ft tall, while the smaller simulators have a 4ft minimum height requirement.
