Antonelli secures brilliant victory in chaotic Monaco Grand Prix amid multiple shock retirements

Kimi Antonelli avoided the late drama of the Monaco Grand Prix to consolidate his lead at the top of the Drivers' Championship standings even further, beating Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar in an exhilarating race that saw seven drivers retire. At lights out in Monaco, the Mercedes racer calmly maintained first place as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen faced a devastating issue at the start that saw him slide down the order before he became the first to DNF. While others struggled with various mechanical problems that forced them out of the action, including Valtteri Bottas and McLaren driver Lando Norris, Antonelli consistently opened up his advantage over the Ferrari pair of Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. However, his win was threatened with around 20 laps remaining when Lance Stroll crashed at the final corner of the Circuit de Monaco, bringing out a Safety Car that allowed many to take a second pit stop without losing too much time. It may have put Antonelli’s lead in danger, but it offered a brilliant opportunity for those who had been handed time penalties for speeding in the pit lane to serve them during the race. The restart was short-lived as local favourite Leclerc experienced an identical crash to Stroll’s and the event was halted to inspect track break-up at the site. His DNF helped promote Hadjar to his first Red Bull podium – Pierre Gasly finished ahead on the road but dropped down the order thanks to two five-second penalties – with Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson taking fourth and fifth place. Series reboot Crazy Taxi: World Tour launches 2027

Another day, another Summer Game Fest show, another new driving game. Crazy Taxi will return, 24 years since the last new console entry (Crazy Taxi 3, excluding handheld and mobile spin-offs). Sega’s vibrant time-based driving game was confirmed for a reboot back in 2023 as part of a shizzle reel during that year’s The Game Awards. Since then, things have been quiet, until today’s (7th June 2026) trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase. The bright yellow, Cadillac-inspired, cab returns, alongside lead character Axel and location San Francisco. The trailer opens with a shot of what looks like the Golden Gate Bridge and there are also several jumps over the city’s distinctive graded streets. Sega’s gaming series is also known for its pop-punk soundtrack, and the Offspring’s All I Want is used in this promotional video. This new entry is being led by the original creator, Kenji Kanno, although Sega has confirmed the use of generative AI as a “support tool” in the game’s creation. Mercedes Antonelli was unbeatable in FP3, becoming the first driver to set a time under 1m 13s as he rediscovered the pace that has made the W17 look so strong in his hands all season long. Despite facing some tough competition in Q3, he came out on top once again with a blistering lap time of 1m 12.051s to secure the fourth pole position of his career. His team mate Russell suffered a more uncomfortable session, admitting that “nothing’s clicking” for him as he settled for a distant sixth place almost four tenths adrift of the Italian. The team did an amazing job to get the car in a good place, particularly with the improvements we made overnight after a difficult Friday. It was such a tight fight out there with so many other cars and drivers that looked capable of taking P1. I am delighted to come away with pole therefore and I’m already looking forward to tomorrow. "Qualifying wasn’t completely straightforward at the start. The car felt a bit on edge but as the session went on, everything started to come together. We made the right adjustments, and I felt much more comfortable with where the car was by the time we got to Q3. That gave me the confidence to really push when it mattered. "That final segment of the session was extremely tense and you never quite know what to expect. Finding those last few tenths is never easy, especially with Max (Verstappen) so close all the way through.
