Ollie Bearman has explained how the developing battle between Kimi Antonelli and George Russell is giving him extra belief and motivation, with the Haas driver eager to follow his former F2 team mate to front of the Formula 1 field. Bearman and Antonelli were paired at Prema Racing during the 2024 F2 season, after which the Briton secured a full-time F1 promotion with Haas – via his spectacular stand-in Ferrari showing in Saudi Arabia – and the Italian stepped up with Mercedes. While Bearman is building up in the midfield, Antonelli immediately slotted into a front-running seat, scoring three podiums and 150 points across his rookie campaign, and starting F1’s new era with four wins from the first five rounds of 2026. In doing so, Antonelli has taken the fight to more experienced Mercedes team mate Russell – their intra-team rivalry stepping up a gear at the recent Canadian Grand Prix when they went wheel-to-wheel for victory in the Sprint and main race. Over Memorial Day Weekend, DualShockers was invited to attend the SimRacing Expo in Charlotte, North Carolina. This was a big moment for the team behind the event, as it also marked the first ever time they'd taken the show from its original home in Germany and brought it over stateside. I must say, as the first voyage into having the expo in the USA, the event was an absolutely incredible experience during all three days that it ran. The show floor was jam-packed with tons of exhibitors, all eager and ready to show visitors what they've been working on, and why their products are worth investing in if you're someone that's into sim racing yourself, or are considering joining the action. For me, a fan of both real-life racing and video games, this was a very eye-opening experience as someone who has yet to make the jump into the world of sim racing itself. After spending time testing out dozens of rigs, chatting with numerous teams, and taking everything in, I get it, and I want to be a part of it. Otis Lawrence becomes youngest ever F1 Sim Racing World Champion after dramatic Alpine Sim Racing season 29 May 2026 Alpine Sim Racing's Otis Lawrence has won the 2026 Formula One Sim Racing Drivers' World Championship, becoming the youngest ever champion, following a dramatic season finale on Thursday 28th May. The championship battle went down to the final event of the year, featuring races in Mexico, São Paulo and Abu Dhabi, where eighteen-year-old Lawrence sealed his crown, finishing fifth at the Yas Marina Circuit after a crucial dramatic overtake in the closing laps on Bari Broumand. Lawrence was crowned champion by just two points after a sensational campaign which featured three victories, a run of three consecutive pole positions and a series of standout performances across the 12-race season. Alongside team-mates Dani Bereznay and Josh Idowu, Alpine Sim Racing also secured the runners-up spot in the Teams' Championship. The title-winning season began in spectacular fashion at DreamHack at the NEC in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on 27 – 29 March where the opening event was staged in front of a live audience. Lawrence immediately made an impression, delivering victory at Suzuka, his first win for Alpine Sim Racing, and the team's first triumph in F1 Sim Racing since 2020. The momentum continued across Event 2 on 22/23 April, held at Formula 1's state-of-the-art Media & Technology Centre in Biggin Hill, UK. Lawrence underlined his title credentials with three consecutive pole positions at Jeddah, Barcelona and Silverstone, showing exceptional one-lap pace throughout the campaign. A second-place finish in Jeddah and a commanding wet-weather victory at Silverstone propelled the Welshman to the top of the Drivers' standings. For the last six years, there’s been a boom in the sim racing community. Player numbers are up across the board, and more and more people are investing in setups ranging from a few hundred dollars to over $150,000. It’s led to the first-ever SimRacing Expo to be held in the United States. An event over 10 years in the making, the SimRacing Expo began in 2014 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and grew in Germany into an event with over 24,000 visitors in 2025. This year, the event was brought to Charlotte, North Carolina, and Insider Gaming was privileged to be invited to the show to speak with and see some of the latest advancements in sim racing. Over 30 exhibitors took part in the show, including Fanetec, Thrustmaster, iRacing, Asetek Racing, and more. The controller is similar to many others, but comes with a wheel in the center. Using your thumbs, the wheel is responsive and smooth when driving with any type of vehicle. As the NASCAR Canada Series heads to Autodrome Chaudière, Connor Bell prepares to make his first-ever oval start, while William Larue returns to familiar short-track territory after tackling a road course circuit for the first time at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. For both drivers, the early stages of the season continue to offer new opportunities to learn and adapt. Connor Bell Set for First Oval Experience At 20 years old, Connor Bell has quickly established himself as one of the newcomers to watch in the NASCAR Canada Series. The Ottawa driver built his racing foundation through a combination of some karting and mostly sim racing. After his first track day at age 15, Bell gained experience in Spec Miata competition, the Super Production Challenge, and Radical racing before making the jump to NASCAR Canada. His first appearances in the series produced immediate results. Bell earned a victory in his NASCAR Canada debut at Calabogie Motorsports Park in 2025 before following it with a second-place finish at CTMP later that season. Next weekend at Autodrome Chaudière, Bell will add another first to his résumé as he prepares to race on an oval for the first time. 30 Racing Game Masterpieces You Need to Play - IGN30 From the heavyweights of horsepower to the sultans of simulation. As IGN celebrates its 30th anniversary, it’s my job to assemble a list of 30 racing games that can lay claim to being bona fide masterpieces. It’s honestly a tricky sort of thing to curate. Racing games (and automotive cultures worldwide) are just too tribal for any one batch of racing games to be universally accepted as objectively the best of the best. When you’re dealing with a limited shortlist, you simply can’t inject someone’s favourite racing game without trimming a favourite of somebody else; any one entry will always come at the expense of another deserving candidate. The fact that the genre dates back over 50 years, all the way to the earliest origins of video games, only makes it more difficult. That is, for as long as we’ve had video games, we’ve had racing games. And we’ve had a lot of really, really good ones. In past racing retrospectives we’ve looked at things like overwhelming influence above all else – the racing games that literally wrote the rules of the road for others to follow. On other occasions we’ve restricted our round-ups to just a single game per series in an attempt to recognise a wider spectrum of greatness. But the nature of a true masterpiece got me thinking about this in a slightly different way. In this instance, we’re not just talking about great racing games. We’re talking about the premier racing games that define entire developers to this day. We’re talking about the greatest works of the world’s most respected racing studios, from Papyrus Design Group to Polyphony Digital. Live today, 29th May, Assetto Corsa EVO’s ranked multiplayer has a new way of calculating the ubiquitous safety rating. Used in other sim racing platforms to help determine race eligibility, historically, this is calculated on the number of off-track moments or car-to-car contacts a driver encounters. Consequently, a quick way of rising through SR levels could be to drive at the back and avoid all contact. In EVO’s SR system, the title will measure “the time you spend racing close to other cars without contact,” according to an official statement. The theory being this will prevent drivers from hanging back to rapidly rise the ranks, as you’ll need to be near others in order to progress. At the time of its release, however, the true test of this process will be over time, and if sim racers can’t find some other form of exploit. Another element is how EVO attributes ‘blame’ during contact, a perennial challenge for online systems. Developer Kunos Simulazioni claims that “EVO’s SR analyses the impact point to ensure aggressors pay and blameless victims don’t.” It also states that the severity of contact matters, and “door-to-door” contact has minimal SR impact. Assetto Corsa EVO has been going through significant multiplayer changes of late, including, last month, tweaks to the daily racing schedule and event types. As more cars are added, this also enhances the variety, with at least two expected for an upcoming version 0.7 early access release. George Russell has revealed he would like to compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours one day and experience the unique challenges the event presents. The 2026 edition of the iconic endurance race took place last weekend at the Nordschleife, attracting heightened attention due to Max Verstappen’s participation. F1 drivers have limited opportunities to compete in other racing categories because of the sport’s demanding calendar and the commitments that come with it. But when asked if he would like to compete at the Nurburgring 24 Hours, Russell told media including RacingNews365: “Yeah, definitely one day. “To be honest, watching Max at the weekend was pretty cool to see. “I’ve followed the race in the past and those 24-hour races – there, Bathurst as well – they’re just brutal races.” Verstappen has long expressed his interest in endurance racing and is also regularly seen competing in long sim-racing sessions at home. Having established himself as one of the most successful drivers in the sport’s history, Verstappen has little left to prove in F1. Russell noted that his situation is very different from Verstappen’s, as he is still pursuing his first F1 title. “All of us are in a slightly different position to Max,” Russell said. “Obviously, we’re also pursuing to win a world championship, but obviously, he’s in a luxurious position to do what he enjoys. “And yeah, that’s great for him. Motorsport Australia, in partnership with Full Send SimSport, is proud to launch an inspiring new pathway for women entering the world of esports. Backed by the FIA, the free eight‑week online Women’s Introduction to Esports program is designed to open the doors to sim racing in a way that feels welcoming, confidence‑building, and fun. Kicking off on 29 June and concluding on 17 August, the program is built on a structured, beginner‑friendly curriculum that helps women and girls develop real racing skills in a supportive, pressure‑free environment. Successful applicants will participate in an information night on 29 June with the first of eight weeks starting on the evening of Wednesday 1 July, guided by Full Send SimSport under the expert tuition of Australian racing driver, Caitlin Wood. You can participate in this program using PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or Series S, Windows PC or Windows Laptop, depending on which platform you prefer to use. No sim rigs are required, controllers are fully supported. The game title is to be announced closer to the event. Across seven weeks of online coaching, participants will slowly build their racecraft, with every session tailored to their experience level and equipment, whether they’re using a controller or a full sim rig. That seven-weeks of learning culminates in a Week 8 Showcase where drivers come together online for friendly races, community connection, and a chance to see just how far they’ve come. This program works well for new and developing drivers.
