Ford voice Max Verstappen concern ahead of Mercedes Nurburgring tilt

Ford would rather see Max Verstappen compete in one of its own cars than the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo he will drive at this weekend's Nürburgring 24 Hours, according to the manufacturer's global racing director, Mark Rushbrook. The four-time F1 drivers' champion is set to make his 24-hour debut at the Nordschleife with Winward Racing, but the American marque's preference would be for the 28-year-old to be behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang GT3 "We prefer our Ford drivers to stay in Ford," Rushbrook told reporters at the recent WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. "We understand why he did that. We love his passion." Verstappen's choice of Mercedes machinery comes despite his Red Bull F1 team producing a power unit in partnership with Ford from this season, creating an unusual situation where the Dutchman represents different manufacturers across racing disciplines — although this was the case last year when he raced a Ferrari GT3 car. According to Sportscar365, there were considerable efforts to get the 71-time grand prix winner into a Mustang GT3 EVO for both the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and his Verstappen Racing team's GT World Challenge Europe campaign. "We love what he does for us in Formula 1. We love who he is as a person. We love that he's a racer, whether it's sim racing or that, it only makes him better," Rushbrook explained. The Ford executive emphasised that whilst Verstappen's current programme suits his needs, the American manufacturer remains keen to see him compete in Ford machinery across other racing categories. "That's the right program for him right now. But obviously we'd love to see him in a Ford in the sports car world," Rushbrook said. Both cockpits are suitably modern, too, replete with digital dashboards, This is especially apparent on the VNR Electric, which has to eke out every possible aero gain to achieve its 275-mile range. While the VNL is available via the in-game Volvo Trucks dealership, the VNR Electric is exclusively accessible via the Quick Jobs menu, with an ‘emergency charge’ feature highlighting the work-in-progress nature of ATS’s electric infrastructure (it’s a real-world issue, too, if we’re being pragmatic). Hyundai's newest high-performance N model is a professional-grade <b>racing simulator</b>

Hyundai is set to take driving thrills from the road to the virtual world with the launch of an official Hyundai N Racing Simulator. Rather than a fully in-house development, Hyundai has teamed up with gaming industry experts for the virtual side of things, but the physical experience has a distinctly Hyundai flavour. Two grades of Hyundai N simulator will be available, with a Racer version as the entry-level model, or an upgraded Pro version as the range topper. Regardless of which you opt for, both feature N Light Sport seats from overseas versions of the i30 Sedan N, to give an authentic Hyundai driving feel. The steering and pedals come from Logitech, with an RS50 System steering wheel featuring the Hyundai N logo in place of the usual Logitech branding. A set of Logitech RS pedals is also included, with full adjustment for the seat position, pedal position, and steering wheel height. LG provides the displays, with a 65-inch OLED screen on the Racer and an LG UltraFine G OLED Pro display on the Pro version, with a 120-hertz refresh rate, and 4K UHD resolution. The gaming system itself is also different between the two versions, with a Sony PlayStation 5 equipped on the Racer, and a PlayStation 5 Pro on the Pro model. Using the Gran Turismo 7 game engine, real-world vehicle data is used to provide a true-to-life driving experience. Hyundai’s recent marketing activity has seen a push towards virtual racing at all levels. In 2025, Hyundai cars were added to KartRider Rush+ and Asphalt Legends Unite, with the aim of creating a new generation of young Hyundai enthusiasts. Lotus to 'add lightness' to new sports car

The Lotus Emira has filled the role of two models since it was launched, becoming the effective successor to both the Elise and Evora, though there’s been no replacement for the Exige. That may soon change, after Lotus yesterday announced a raft of product plans, including a hybrid V8-powered supercar, and its intention to continue building the Emira in the UK. According to Lotus, an updated version of the Emira is around the corner, “designed to be the most powerful and lightest Emira built”, hinting at track capability to rival the previous Exige. With the current Emira tipping the scales at approximately 1400kg to 1500kg depending on spec, it’s a far cry from the sub-1300kg Evora and circa-1000kg Elise, leaving room for improvement for owners chasing a more raw experience. Last month, the Lotus-focused Emira Forum previewed an alleged leak of the upcoming sports car, to be called the Emira 420 Sport. Understood to be powered by the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine sourced from AMG, it’s alleged to produce 310kW (up from the standard 268kW), with its eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission enabling a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.8 seconds. Additional claimed changes include a 5mm drop in ride height, which combined with a 32kg reduction in weight and other aerodynamic upgrades should enable the Emira to better perform on the race track and twisty roads. The upcoming launch of the Emira comes off the back of Lotus cutting approximately half of its UK workforce last year, with 650 of its 1300 headquarters staff let go. At the time, a downturn in sales and profits was pinned as the reason, with the electric Eletre and Emeya struggling to sell, while the Emira has been impacted by US tariffs. Formula 1 has joined forces with racing team Mumbai Falcons to launch the F1 Sim Racing India Open 2026, a championship designed to attract and nurture talent across the country via the official F1 game. With India representing one of the sport’s largest audiences, the programme will aim to create an accessible entry point for gamers and aspiring racers to showcase their skills in a national sim racing format on the F1 25 game.
