‘We’re finally battling with the cars we want to battle’ – Verstappen and Hamilton reflect on their Miami Sprint clash Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton engaged in a thrilling contest for P6 in the Miami Sprint. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton got stuck into an exhilarating battle for P6 in the Sprint at the Miami Grand Prix, but were both left with more questions than answers as car issues impacted their respective running. The Red Bull driver started the Sprint in P5 with Hamilton close behind in seventh before they nearly came together on the opening lap, going three-wide with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto in a tense moment. Although the Briton momentarily came out on top, the contest between the historic rivals didn’t end there as Verstappen looked to reclaim the position on Lap 9, which led to the duo running wide over track limits. Verstappen was forced to give the place back but quickly made a more lasting overtake on Hamilton, and later gained another spot thanks to Kimi Antonelli’s five-second time penalty to wind up in fifth – his highest finish of the season so far. Offering his verdict on Red Bull’s improvement from the first three rounds, Verstappen said: “I think overall it was a lot more positive. We’re finally battling a bit more with the cars that we want to battle, even considering all the issues that I had. “At the start, again something went wrong, and then at the end of the first lap I also had no battery release out of the last corner, so that’s why I got passed. “After that, once I was in clean air a bit, the pace was okay. There are still a few problems with the car that I want to sort out and we’ll go from there.” While

A look back at FSWeekend 2026: Interview with MOZA Racing May 2, 2026 After building up their brand in sim racing, MOZA Racing has spent the last couple of years investing heavily in flight sim hardware, with various force feedback bases, panels, yokes, grips, rudder pedals, and even motion platforms now forming part of a growing product line. At FlightSimWeekend 2026, Threshold sat down with MOZA’s Zak Priest to talk about this shift, why force feedback has become such a focus for the company, and where MOZA sees the home cockpit market heading next. Force Feedback While MOZA has been expanding into panels and other cockpit hardware for some time now, the main focus has been on various force feedback hardware. When asked whether anything at the show had changed MOZA’s roadmap, Priest said it would be hard to make that kind of decision from one weekend alone, but the company’s wider goal has not really changed. “For us, the biggest goal is improving accessibility of force feedback to the community”, Priest said. “It is something that has been lacking”. Priest pointed back to the old Microsoft SideWinder era as the last time the average home simmer had a widely accessible force feedback option. “Going back to the SideWinder days, that is the last time there was really an affordable force feedback option on the market”, Priest said. “I still have two of them”. This market gap, according to Priest, is where MOZA sees its opportunity. The company wants to bring force feedback hardware to more users and make it cheap and accessible for all. “It is also the quality thing, the quality and an accessible rate as well”, Priest said. “[It is about] providing it in a timely manner, getting it into our customers’ hands, and also displaying it

Former race car driver and Paralympic gold medallist Alex Zanardi has passed away at the age of 59. Zanardi’s family released a statement confirming that he died on Friday night (May 1). “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Alessandro Zanardi, which occurred suddenly on the evening of yesterday, May 1,” read the statement. “Alex passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. The family sincerely thanks everyone who has shown support in these hours and asks for respect for their grief and privacy at this time of mourning. Information regarding the funeral will be shared at a later date.” - Zanardi lost both his legs after a 2001 crash at Lausitzring - He returned to racing, competing in DTM, World Touring Car Championship and more - He also won six Paralympic Games medals Alex Zanardi: 1966-2026 Zanardi is celebrated as one of motorsport’s most extraordinary figures – his journey marked by triumph, tragedy and an almost unbelievable comeback. Through the 1990s, he raced in F1 for teams like Jordan, Minardi, Lotus and Williams. But it is America’s CART championship (now IndyCar) where he enjoyed great success, claiming back-to-back titles in 1997 and 1998. Tragedy struck in 2001, when a catastrophic crash during a CART race at Lausitzring resulted in both his legs being amputated. This wasn’t the end of his racing career, though. Following rehab, he returned to car racing less than two years after the accident. He went on to race in multiple series, including the World Touring Car Championship, DTM and even the Daytona 24 Hours, collecting several wins over the years. But motorsport was only half the story. Sim rigs tend to emphasize form over function, something Italian design firm Teckell sought to change with its Nivola. Carrying the nickname of legendary racer Tazio Nuvolari, it’s meant to be at home, according to Teckell’s website copy, in penthouses, five-star hotel suites, and onboard super yachts. The only problem is that it looks like a race car bed with a screen attached. It’s a very nice race car bed, granted. It resembles an enlarged toy version of one of the cars Nuvolari himself would have driven, and it’s made with what an automaker press release would describe as “premium materials.” The Heritage Edition has a body surfaced with Canaletto Walnut veneer, with a leather-and-microfiber seat and a steering wheel made from aluminum and carbon fiber. The Racing Edition has an aluminum body shell and leather seat, while the Aero Edition swaps that for a carbon-fiber bucket with cushions, like on some supercars. A 49-inch, 5120×1440 curved display and integrated soundbar are included, and Assetto Corsa Competizione comes pre-loaded. Force-feedback steering and a magnetic quick-release wheel are standard as well. The Aero Edition adds haptic-feedback pedals (with power adjustment), a shaker that channels bass vibrations through the seat, a five-point harness, and upgraded computing hardware. Teckell is currently accepting pre-orders at an undisclosed price, but you can bet that this designer rig will be more expensive than assembling one yourself from separately-purchased bits. Each will be individually assembled in Italy, with a lead time of 60 days per rig and no more than 50 made per year. Whether it ends up being more expensive than the Pagani Huayra R sim rig—another paean to Italian craftsmanship and intense screen time—remains to be seen. Reigning world champion Lando Norris delivered a statement lap to clinch pole position for the Miami Grand Prix sprint, edging out Mercedes’ rising star Kimi Antonelli and breaking the Silver Arrows’ early-season dominance. Under the lights at the Hard Rock Stadium, Norris clocked a stunning 1:27.869 to secure top spot for Saturday’s 100km sprint, finishing 0.222 seconds ahead of Antonelli. The result also denied McLaren a front-row lockout, with Oscar Piastri settling for third, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took fourth. A nice way to reward the team,” he said. “We have a lot of new upgrades on the car. It’s nice to feel some grip again and to reward the guys and the girls that have put a lot of work into this.” Having won last year’s sprint in Miami, Norris once again showed his comfort around the circuit but remained cautious about the weekend ahead. Mercedes drivers had dominated the opening three races of the season, making this McLaren breakthrough even more significant. Four-time world champion Max Verstappen qualified fifth for Red Bull Racing, while Mercedes’ George Russell ended up sixth. Will Ford, general manager of global racing for the company, spoke extensively about the “critical steps” Ford has taken to harness the passion that comes with being involved in motorsport. Ford was speaking in an on-stage interview ahead of the Miami Grand Prix at ‘Fueling the future’, an event put together by The Race and Axios Live in downtown Miami to mark the city’s rise as a hub for international sports dealmaking. Here are five takeaways from what Ford said in front of a packed audience in the Miami Design District. Why Ford couldn't ignore F1's audience F1’s boom in popularity hasn’t only grown the sport’s fanbase, it’s transformed the demographics that companies can reach by being part of the global show. “This is an audience that we can’t afford to not be speaking to,” said Ford. “If you look at our brand and our core products, our customer demographics trend much older, and very male oriented. “Formula 1 is the exact opposite. It’s very young, very female-oriented fan base. So it’s very important for our brand to be reaching this audience in a way that they find exciting and appealing and attractive.” Always paying attention Ford walked away from F1 when it sold the Jaguar team to Red Bull at the end of 2004. The astonishing numbers behind F1’s US commercial boom Formula 1’s boom of American sponsorship has reached the point where 83% of commercial partners supporting the 11 teams on the grid are US-based. That incredible statistic was shared by Williams team boss James Vowles when speaking on stage at at ‘Fueling the Future’ - a business reception hosted by The Race in conjunction with Axios Live in downtown Miami ahead of this year’s Miami GP. Talking about how the United States has become the commercial lifeblood of F1 in recent years, Vowles told guests at the packed event: “The US is our most important - by a long way - business contributor. “In terms of partners, sponsors on the cars, 83% of them are US-based. “If I roll back five years ago, our presence in the USA was fairly small. We had Austin [for the US GP], that was about it. Miami in year one [2022] wasn’t the pinnacle it is now.” And even for the minority of partners that are not US-based, Vowles added that “there’s not a single partner that we have that doesn’t want to be here in Miami. It’s just one of the crown jewels". He added: “It’s a very unique layout, in the centre of the [Hard Rock] stadium. You have this sort of hub with all the teams together at the same time. You have to walk through tens of thousands of fans to get to the pit wall. “But it’s very enjoyable. And for me, it’s good positioning in the US. It’s such a unique way to invite your partners to be part of the race.
