Leapmotor enters Mexico in first North America move

Leapmotor has broken into North America for the first time with the launch of the B10 compact SUV in Mexico. The launch, timed to coincide with Mexico’s partial hosting of the FIFA World Cup, gives Leapmotor a foothold in a region where its Stellantis-backed expansion has otherwise struggled to garner a foothold. Entering the Mexican market has been in the works for quite some time: the B10 spent more than a year undergoing localisation testing at Stellantis’s automotive engineering and testing centre in the country. It was tuned specifically for high-altitude terrain, desert conditions, and rainforest climates before clearing local regulatory certification. Leapmotor’s C10 and C16 SUVs are set to follow in due course, targeting family and multi-passenger buyers. The Mexican-spec B10 arrives as a range-extended electric vehicle, with a 1.5-litre engine acting solely as a generator for an 18.8 kWh battery and 160kW electric motor, giving it a combined range of up to 990 km. Notably, the model’s sticker price starts at MXN 575,000 (US$32,895), somewhat cheaper than the roughly US$37,045 equivalent price in Germany. Leapmotor is leaning entirely on Stellantis’ existing infrastructure rather than building a network from scratch, launching through more than 40 authorised outlets with plans to expand into smaller cities over time. If you’ve always wanted a Polestar but didn’t want to pay for one, now may be the time. In late June, Polestar announced it was leaving the United States market after the Commerce Department refused to give it a pass under the new Connected Vehicle Rule, which blocks cars with China-linked connected software starting with the 2027 model year. Polestar didn’t seem that concerned, noting that most of its sales were in Europe anyway. You know, where people buy EVs. However, it didn’t leave without leaving Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models sitting in dealership inventories. And now those models are getting serious discounts. Serious as in “luxury EV for Camry money” serious. Polestar 3 and 4 deals in the United States The Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 are not cheap, with stickers starting around $67,500 and $56,400-$57,800, respectively. They were part of the whole “EVs are too expensive, and new cars are exploding in price” thing that’s been discussed in the past few years. But right now, cash buyers can get a $25,000 “Polestar Clean Vehicle Incentive” on the Polestar 4, and up to $23,000 off the Polestar 3. The offer runs from July 1 through July 31, and you have to take delivery before it expires. So no, you can’t sleep on this one until Labor Day. The math, per Motor1: the rear-motor Polestar 4 drops to $32,800, and the configurator was even flashing $31,400 late last week. The Polestar brand is on its way out of the U.S. market, thanks to the U.S. government's Connected Car Rule regulating the Swedish-based-but-largely-Chinese-owned company away, but it’s not going quietly. For those willing to take a chance on a brand that soon won’t exist here, Polestar has a fire sale going on that you won’t want to miss. As first brought to broader attention by Jalopnik, the deals are impressive. If you’re a cash buyer, the Swedish EV company is offering a whopping $25,000 off its Polestar 4, or $23,000 off a Polestar 3. For reference, a Polestar 4 starts at $57,800; chop $25,000 off that, and you’re left with a $32,800 dent for an awesome electric luxury sedan / hatchback / crossover. The Polestar 3 is a pricier proposition, but after the discount, you’re only looking at $45,900 for a base model. All the above said, it might be tough (or impossible) to find examples at those prices considering most cars still on the lot will be loaded up with a number of options. The discounts aren’t only for cash buyers either. You can finance through Polestar with 0 percent APR and still get an $18,000 credit on the Polestar 4. Leasing for cheap is also on the table. Polestar 4 leases start at $399 per month for 39 months with $1000 due at signing. Meanwhile, the Polestar 3 lease deal stands at $579 per month for 27 months and a $5000 down payment. Both of these lease deals assume 7500 miles per year, with penalties for going over that distance. You can stack additional discounts on top of these ones, too. Polestar Just Got Banned From Selling New <b>Cars</b> in America

Polestar didn’t get recalled, didn’t get sued into oblivion, and hasn’t gone bankrupt. It just got told by the U.S. government that it can’t sell new cars here past the 2027 model year, and its response has been to slash prices on what’s left in the showroom by as much as $25,000. That’s not marketing spin. That’s a company trying to move metal before the clock runs out. The mechanism here is easy to miss on first read. On June 25, 2026, Polestar filed a report with the SEC telling investors that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security declined to grant it an authorization under the Connected Vehicle Rule to keep selling vehicles in America starting with the 2027 model year. Existing 2025 Polestar 3 and 2026 Polestar 4 inventory is unaffected and can still be sold, serviced, and warrantied. What ends is Polestar’s ability to bring anything new into the country after that. The Connected Vehicle Rule itself predates this specific decision by about a year and a half. The Bureau of Industry and Security finalized it in January 2025 and it took effect that March, and it regulates software and hardware rather than sheet metal. Vehicles under 10,001 pounds fall under two deadlines: automakers owned or controlled by Chinese or Russian interests lose the right to sell model-year 2027 vehicles running covered software, and by model year 2030 the ban extends to importing the connectivity hardware itself, things like telematics control units and cellular modules that let a car communicate outside the vehicle. Automakers who aren’t violating those rules still have to file annual paperwork proving it.
