The Kia Sportage Hybrid is the company's first hybrid electric vehicle to come out of its new facility in the US state of Georgia. While it's possible to view this as simply a manufacturing move on behalf of the Korean company, it also represents a practical and economic reality for the company and its US customers. The Sportage Hybrid will emerge from the high-tech Ellabell, Georgia facility, also known as the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), a facility that can also handle electrified vehicles from Hyundai and Genesis. This hybrid crossover may avoid import duty pressures and potentially qualify for the new American final assembly vehicle loan interest deduction. But it also shines a spotlight on Kia's bigger aspirations as the company tries to turn the tariff math in its favor. The Georgia Move Looks Like A Pricing Story But Is Really A Chess Move | 2026 Kia Sportage Hybrid | | |---|---| | Engine | 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four with hybrid electric motor | | Transmission | Six-speed automatic | | Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive | | Power | 231 hp combined | | Torque | 271 lb-ft combined | The Sportage Hybrid is one of Kia's most important vehicles and sits in one of the more competitive parts of the US marketplace. Compact SUVs are now becoming the default family transportation choice, with hybrids increasingly seen as the sensible middle ground in a hugely volatile gasoline market. And this led Kia to commence production of the 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid model on June 2, 2026, to stand alongside Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 within the new HMGMA plant. It’s also worth noting that Kia already builds other US market models like the Telluride, EV9, EV6 and Sorento at its West Point, Georgia facility. So,

Springfield Township police using drones to help catch thieves Police in Springfield Township say they're catching more suspects than ever with the help of drones. Chief Chris Niehaus said his officers were making about three arrests each year connected to car break-ins and thefts from cars. He says with the drones, in the past year alone they've made more than 20 arrests, including two this week. Now, the department is sharing brand new footage from a previous arrest leading to federal gun charges. Officer William Yeager is one of the department's drone pilots. In November of last year, Yeager's drone skills helped catch a felon who police said had a gun stolen from a car in Springfield Township. "These apprehensions are apprehensions that we wouldn't have had without this drone program. Guys that more than likely would have gotten away," Yeager said. Naim Warren was named as one of nine people indicted for federal gun charges, part of a major effort to catch repeat offenders in Greater Cincinnati. "What we've learned very quickly with the drone program is really leveraging technology, how much quicker we can respond," Niehaus said. Overnight Monday, police say a man identified as Bret Kersey was spotted stealing catalytic converters from cars in Woodlawn, before leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in Springfield Township with a crash. "I was actually the pursuing officer when he crashed, so I was able to get right out, put the drone right up," Yeager said. Kersey took off but didn't get far. "I was watching him walk into backyards, and you could see that he could see our officers, but they couldn't see him due to the darkness," Yeager said. "We were able to see him actually go into a home and break into that home." Arrest reports

| Advertisement | Rivian Drops FM Radio from R2, Sparks Listener Backlash | RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, June 18, 2026 | 1:18pm CT | Rivian's decision to eliminate AM and FM radio receivers from its new R2 electric SUV is drawing criticism from radio advocates, lawmakers and potential buyers, as concerns grow over the industry's broader move away from traditional broadcast radio in vehicles. According to media reports, the Rivian R2 replaces conventional radio tuners with a digital audio platform centered around the iHeartRadio app and other streaming services. While listeners can still access many AM and FM stations through internet-based apps, the system relies on cellular connectivity rather than over-the-air broadcasts. The move makes Rivian one of the latest automakers to abandon traditional radio hardware. Tesla has removed AM and FM tuners from some newer vehicle trims, while several manufacturers began eliminating AM receivers in recent years, citing interference issues associated with electric vehicle powertrains. The decision has generated pushback from consumers, particularly outdoor enthusiasts who say cellular coverage is often unreliable or unavailable in remote areas where Rivian vehicles are frequently used. Critics argue that relying exclusively on streaming services could leave drivers without access to entertainment, local information and emergency alerts when traveling beyond cellular coverage. The debate comes as Congress moves closer to passing legislation that would require automakers to retain AM radio in new vehicles. The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act has attracted broad bipartisan support and has been incorporated into larger transportation legislation currently advancing through Congress. The National Association of Broadcasters has used Rivian's decision to highlight concerns about the removal of broadcast radio from dashboards. NAB officials argue that AM radio remains a critical component of the nation's Emergency Alert System and provides a resilient communications platform during natural disasters and

ATLANTA – June 18, 2026— Cox Automotive Inc. today announced the launch of Cox Automotive Navigator, a browser extension designed to connect dealership workflows across Cox Automotive tools, to help teams complete tasks faster and reduce repetitive steps. Navigator streamlines dealership operations with Cox Automotive solutions, linking data, actions, and enabling dealerships to work more efficiently. “Dealership teams are working across more systems than ever, and that complexity can slow down everyday operations,” said Derek Hansen, SVP of Dealer, Lender and Inventory Solutions, Cox Automotive. “Navigator works with the access a dealer already has to Cox Automotive solutions, so they can move faster, reduce repetitive steps and stay focused on serving customers—not switching between platforms.” Navigator works across the Cox Automotive dealer ecosystem, including vAuto, Xtime, VinSolutions, Dealertrack, and more, helping connect workflows across the tools dealerships use every day. Beyond retail solutions, it also improves efficiency across Manheim, OVE, Central Dispatch, Ready Logistics, and strategic partners like UVeye. As a browser extension, Navigator gives dealership users access to time-saving shortcuts. For example, users appraising a vehicle in vAuto can one-click over to service records in Xtime or customer insights in VinSolutions to more precisely and accurately value that vehicle. Features include: - Connects workflows across Cox Automotive dealer solutions, including vAuto, Xtime, VinSolutions and Dealertrack. - Supports broader Cox Automotive operations through integrations with Manheim, OVE, Central Dispatch and Ready Logistics. - Available for download from the Google Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons store, and functions with the Cox Automotive solutions a dealership is authorized to access. - Meets Cox Automotive enterprise-grade security standards and does not store dealership data locally, with activity taking place within a secure browser session. “As an almost exclusive Cox Automotive suite customer, I find the Navigator to be fantastic,” said Justin

From spam likely to connected: 8 strategies to protect your phone lines from the spam problem draining automotive revenue

Although hinted at almost two months ago, it seems that Google Meet is now truly rolling out for Android Auto. Google has now confirmed the full rollout of Google Meet for Android Auto in a dedicated Workspace blog post. The only notable extra tidbit is that this is enabled by default and will work automatically when your phone is connected to a supported Android Auto head unit. The full rollout is expected to be fully complete by June 2026, so you should soon see it on your car if you haven’t by that date. As noted, a brief hint that this would happen occurred a few weeks ago. However, this “rollout” did not actually appear to be widespread, nor did it show Google Meet running on Android Auto-enabled head units. It was merely a toggle and notification that it would be available – while also having the old Meet logo intact. It looks like the actual rollout has begun in earnest, as the in-car entertainment OS is now showing notifications and allowing users to use the conference-calling system in their vehicles. As of June 4, we have seen a notification when logging in to the in-car dashboard with a couple of test devices informing that “Meet is available” and we are able to log in. There is a slight caveat to get this working on your first run of the application. When launching for the first time, you’ll need to open and restart the Google Meet app on your device before it works seamlessly with Android Auto. In our own testing, there was no such warning about limited access for Workspace accounts. The onboarding process was very streamlined, requiring the on-device app restart, then launching into a somewhat familiar contact and call list UI. There is a tab for “Scheduled”
