As vehicle prices soar after COVID-19 and financial costs soar due to prolonged high interest rates As more consumers just ride conventional cars The year of the vehicle is 10% higher than 10 years ago The 車 industry, maintenance and service sectors are active The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 5th (local time) that the year of vehicles that Americans ride has been longer than ever before in the wake of high interest rates and high prices. According to the WSJ, the average year of vehicles running on the road in the U.S. is now 13 years, the highest ever. This is a jump of more than 10% compared to a decade ago. In the meantime, vehicle years have steadily increased, but the COVID-19 pandemic has been decisive. This is because vehicle prices soared due to supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 period, and U.S. consumers are not purchasing new cars due to high interest rates for a long time. Currently, the average sales price of new U.S. cars is about $50,000 (77.5 million won), a jump of more than $10,000 compared to the beginning of 2020. In addition, the price of new cars is also affecting the price of new cars, as the U.S. Detroit's big three vehicle companies cut their electric vehicle lineup at the loss of tens of billions of dollars in investment. As a result, the automobile industry is seeing moves to increase profits in maintenance and service sectors instead of selling new cars. Ford has begun full operation of "mobile service" marketing, in which dedicated vans equipped with special maintenance devices visit customers' homes or workplaces and replace consumables at the site. It has also built a remote diagnostic system that uses "connected car data" to immediately transmit defect signals through the borrower's

Fast and Furious star Sung Kang reveals the one JDM car that he believes is very underrated and under appreciated Published on Jun 07, 2026 at 12:04 AM (UTC+4) by Alessandro Renesis Last updated on Jun 07, 2026 at 12:04 AM (UTC+4) Edited by Mason Jones We know him as Han from Fast & Furious and for his upcoming movie Drifter, but there’s one thing Sung Kang doesn’t get enough credit for: his style. His signature pose, leaning on a car, coupled with his fashion sense should be talked about more. Sung Kang teamed up with Xbox and UPRISERS LAB to launch Forza Horizon-themed jackets, and we had the opportunity to have a chat with him. And some of his answers were quite juicy, including something he had to say about a JDM car he thinks will be the next big thing. This collab is a great fit as style is clearly important to you, but how much influence do you have over what your character wears on screen? “Style has always been important to me because clothing helps communicate character before a word is even spoken,” he told Supercar Blondie. “It tells you something about how a person moves through the world, what they value, what kind of life they’ve lived. Over the years, I’ve definitely become more collaborative with costume designers and filmmakers about those details, especially on projects connected to car culture or identity-driven storytelling.” “That’s one of the reasons this collaboration felt so natural to me. UPRISERS LAB approached the jackets with the same mindset – every material choice, texture and detail was intentional and tied back to story and atmosphere rather than just aesthetics,” he said. The way you lean on the RX-7 in Tokyo Drift became iconic. I’m sure you’ve seen the AI trend,

A smartphone left inside a stolen Dodge Charger helped police track down the vehicle and make an arrest, adding another data point to the growing story of how modern technology is changing the odds in vehicle theft recovery. Whether it's an owner's forgotten phone, an AirTag slipped under a seat, a built-in GPS tracker, or a connected car service, the era where stolen vehicles simply disappeared has given way to a situation where investigators increasingly have a thread to pull. The phone recovery vector is particularly interesting because it doesn't require the vehicle owner to have done anything proactive. A smartphone that stayed in the car during the theft retained its location reporting capability, and law enforcement was able to use that to locate the vehicle. Thieves who are sophisticated about defeating physical vehicle security sometimes forget that the technology environment around the car — connected devices, OnStar-type services, Bluetooth presence — can be just as revealing. For Dodge Charger and Challenger owners specifically, the advice to install aftermarket GPS trackers is more timely than ever. The models' well-documented theft vulnerability and their desirability for high-speed evasion have made them frequent theft targets, and the recovery rate for stolen Chargers and Challengers without any tracking technology is poor. A $50-100 GPS tracker with a monthly subscription creates a real path to vehicle recovery that doesn't exist otherwise. AirTags and similar Bluetooth tracking tiles have become increasingly popular as inexpensive, easy-to-hide theft deterrents and recovery aids. They have limitations — they require another Apple device nearby to relay location, they can be detected by thieves using counter-surveillance tools — but for most theft scenarios they provide a meaningful advantage. The combination of a purpose-built GPS tracker and an AirTag covers different failure modes and gives owners the best recovery odds. The

Cars Are Rolling Computers They know where you live. They may know where you work. They often know where you have been, who you called, what music you listen to, what addresses you have searched, and sometimes even how aggressively you drive. Depending on your vehicle and which connected services you have activated, they may also know your favorite destinations, garage door settings, and information synced from your phone. Before anybody panics and starts disconnecting battery cables, let me say this up front: this is not a conspiracy, and your car probably is not secretly recording your dinner conversations. Why Vehicles Collect Data Most of this data collection exists for reasons consumers actually want. Navigation needs location data. Voice recognition needs commands. Remote start apps need connectivity. Crash notification systems need vehicle data. Service reminders need mileage and diagnostics. If you want your car to start from your phone while you are drinking coffee inside, information has to move somewhere. The problem is not necessarily that vehicles collect data. The problem is most people have no idea how much. My friend Kim Komando recently highlighted something that really caught my attention, if you missed her special report in my newsletter last week: modern vehicles have become rolling computers, and many owners never think about what stays behind after they connect their phones, enter destinations, pair apps, or trade the vehicle in. She also pointed our readers to a free tool called Vehicle Privacy Report that allows consumers to enter a VIN and see the types of data their vehicle may collect, store, and share under manufacturer privacy policies. It is eye-opening and worth a few minutes of your time. Run your VIN at www.vehicleprivacyreport.com And here is the part that surprised me. What Gets Left Behind According to information Kim

How Local China Built the EV Boom A new study challenges the story of Beijing-led industrial policy, tracing how local governments and private firms reshaped the auto industry from below. China’s electric-vehicle industry has become one of the most contested stories in the global economy. To some, it is a textbook case of successful industrial policy. To others, it is a story of subsidies, overcapacity, brutal price wars, and unfair competition, now spilling into trade disputes with the U.S. and Europe. A newly published paper offers a more nuanced explanation. In “The Rise of China’s Electric Vehicle Industry: Strategic Alliances Between Local Governments and Private Capital,” published in the July issue of The China Journal in 2026, Fengming Lu and Xiao Ma argue that China’s EV boom was driven in large part by alliances between ambitious local governments and agile private firms, which repeatedly found ways around tight central regulations—a dynamic that produced both China’s spectacular EV successes and many of its costly failures. Fengming Lu is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Political and Social Change at the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, Australian National University. His research spans comparative politics and Chinese politics, with a particular focus on China’s political economy, industrial policy, local governance, and political selection. Drawing on three decades of observation of China’s automotive sector, Fengming is currently working on a book project examining the rise of China’s EV industry. The project explores the interplay between central industrial policies, local governments’ developmental strategies, and global capital markets in shaping one of the most significant industrial transformations of the twenty-first century. Xiao Ma is an associate professor of political science at the School of Government at Peking University. His research focuses on comparative political institutions, politics of development and Chinese politics. He

The automotive industry is experiencing a situation of uncertainty that does not favor a smooth transition. In addition to the traditional risks associated with driving or owning a car, there are now various technological revolutions to consider, such as the emergence of artificial intelligence and the impact of cybercrime. The resulting scenario is increasingly complex. All vehicles, whether electric or not, contain numerous components that are susceptible to attack. Brakes can be locked, sensors can be altered, or proximity radars can be deactivated. The maximum speed limit can also be manipulated, as well as the car's most private data (where it rests each night, which highway it crosses in real-time). S2GRUPO has just prepared its Second Report on Cybersecurity in Connected Electric Vehicles, which analyzes the threats to the sector with the objectives of validating the use of a specific methodology for risk analysis development and identifying appropriate security measures to protect the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of Connected Electric Vehicles (CEV). Limitations in traditional models Researchers have identified the limitations of traditional industrial cybersecurity models: Linearity in approach. Until now, risks have been evaluated individually and in isolation, without considering that industrial environments are becoming more complex and current attacks often combine several techniques and stages. This perspective is not appropriate for examining new risk scenarios. Relationship between threats and impacts. Dangers do not usually materialize in isolation. It is often necessary to consider simultaneous vulnerabilities. Problems in estimating probabilities. A critical risk scenario results from the combination of vulnerabilities at different levels of the system and the sequential nature of attacks. S2GRUPO proposes the Microsoft Threat Modeling Tool (TMT) methodology, which uses attack trees to calculate the probability of risk scenarios materializing, successfully tested in other mobility-related environments, such as the railway or naval sectors, and in critical

https://www.salesforce.com/ The Moroccan Grand Prix runs this weekend. The Formula One (F1) paddock arriving in Marrakech, Morocco, carries more artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure than any race in the sport’s history. Eight new AI partnerships have been signed in six months alone, Reuters reported on May 4, citing data from research firm Ampere Analysis. What started as logo placement on car liveries has become operational deployment inside engineering rooms, strategy calls and fan platforms, accelerated by the most sweeping technical regulation overhaul in a decade and a $215 million cost cap that rewards efficiency over spending. “Efficiency is one of the ubiquitous benefits of AI products, meaning a natural synergy between teams and AI brands,” Adam Lewis, senior analyst at Ampere Analysis, told Reuters. From Sponsorship to Operations Atlassian Williams Racing, a team competing in the F1, is working with Anthropic to use Claude across race strategy and team operations. Board advisor Peter Kenyon told Reuters the partnership is about more than visibility. Jack Harington, then-group partnership lead at Red Bull Racing, told Reuters the approach has shifted from search to decision-support. “It’s gone from a sort of basic AI to more of an agentic approach, where rather than just searching for something, it’s actually providing decisions for us,” Harington said. Technology led F1 team spending categories last season, reaching an estimated $769 million, up 41% from the prior year. AI and machine learning brands account for four of the top 15

BMW has announced a partnership with Amazon to integrate Alexa voice assistant capabilities directly into its vehicles, expanding the company's existing connected car services and giving Amazon another channel into the daily lives of drivers. The integration allows BMW drivers to use Alexa for a range of in-car functions — playing music, setting navigation, checking smart home devices, placing orders — without picking up a phone. From a convenience standpoint, it's a logical extension of what voice assistants already do. BMW has had its own voice assistant for years, and adding Alexa gives drivers access to a larger ecosystem of skills and connected services that BMW's native system doesn't support. The data privacy dimension of this kind of partnership is worth understanding clearly. When Amazon's Alexa is active in your vehicle, the same data collection and processing practices that apply to an Echo device apply to your car. Queries are processed on Amazon's servers, and the ambient data that comes with voice assistant usage — what you ask, when, patterns of use — becomes part of Amazon's data picture of you. For drivers who have already accepted Alexa in their homes, adding the car is an incremental step. For those who have deliberately avoided it, a BMW partnership makes opting out harder. The broader trend here is the ongoing competition among tech giants to become the operating system of the car. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto already have significant penetration as phone-mirroring systems. Amazon, which has historically been absent from the automotive space in a meaningful way, is pushing into it through these kinds of OEM partnerships. Google has been doing the same through Android Automotive, which is a full embedded OS rather than a mirroring solution. The car is becoming a contested platform, and the data generated by how

What will you leave behind when you sell your car, hand it to a dealer or give it back to a leasing or rental company? As well as that pound coin which fell into the seat, it could be a nice amount of personal data. Some people compare the modern car to a laptop on wheels. The data gathering centre is the infotainment screen which you will be tapping and swiping or talking to. Here’s a list of the potential harvest: - location data – where you are - navigation history – where you’ve been and frequently visit - synced phone contacts - call logs, and sometimes text messages - paired device IDs, user profiles, e-mail addresses, usernames, subscription identifiers - payment information Under new safety rules for new cars, systems must track the driver’s head and eyes to monitor for micro-sleep, sleep, and unresponsiveness, and then warn the driver. These can capture biometric data. Several years ago, car manufacturers looked at the lucrative use companies such as Facebook were making of the data generated by our interactions and decided that they too could capitalise on the data that we were donating to their cars. Every year the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation and parent of the Mozilla Corporation (web browsing and safeguards) produces Privacy Not Included (PNI) reports that analyse how much data is extracted from consumers who buy different kinds of products, including cars, and rates them. It’s perhaps better known in the USA than here in the UK. All 25 major car brands reviewed in Mozilla’s 2023 edition of PNI received fail marks for consumer privacy. According to Mozilla’s researchers (who combed through the privacy agreements, apps and asked questions), global brands — including BMW, Ford, Toyota, Tesla, Kia and Subaru could collect deeply personal data such as sexual

As May was Bike to Work Month, INRIX would like to highlight Dalia Suszko, Software Development Engineer on the IQ backend team, who bikes to work every day. Dalia interned with INRIX in the summers of 2022 and 2023 and has been a full-time employee for just over a year. More people are considering alternatives to driving, whether to save money, reduce their environmental impact, or fit more movement into their daily routines. For Dalia, biking to work wasn’t originally a lifestyle choice—it was a necessity. After moving from California to Bellevue without a car, she purchased an e-bike and never looked back. After a year of commuting exclusively by bike, here are her top tips for anyone considering biking to work. - Plan Your Route Before You Ride Definitely check what the route is like before embarking on your first ride! You may think you know the way to work, but getting there by bike instead of by car is very different. There may not be bike lanes on every street, and some intersections may be particularly dangerous for cyclists (just take a look at the INRIX vulnerable road user data)! It’s important to map your path ahead of time, so you know you’re on the safest route. I live very close to the INRIX office, about 1.5 miles away, so it only takes me 8-10 minutes to get to work. - Always Wear Your Helmet and Be Visible Always wear your helmet! It can be tempting to leave it behind, especially for a short ride like my commute to work, but it’s absolutely the most important piece of safety gear at your disposal. I have a MIPS helmet with an emergency card on the inside with my health information and an emergency contact. You should also keep in

egta has joined the Radio Ready campaign, an industry initiative focused on ensuring radio remains accessible, prominent and easy to discover in connected cars. The international trade body, which represents multiplatform TV and audio businesses, said its involvement brings broadcasters, advertisers and media companies together around a shared goal of maintaining radio’s visibility as in-car entertainment systems become increasingly connected and complex. Bauer Media Group, Sveriges Radio and the European Broadcasting Union launched the Radio Ready initiative in response to changes in the in-car listening environment. While radio remains widely used by drivers and passengers, the campaign argues that evolving dashboard interfaces and entertainment systems can make radio services more difficult to find and access. According to the campaign, Radio Ready now brings together 25 broadcasters, associations and industry partners across 15 countries. egta said its participation adds the perspective of advertisers and commercial media companies to the initiative. The organization said the campaign supports listener choice and radio’s role in delivering trusted information, including emergency alerts and public safety messages. Preserving consumer choice Thierry Mars, director of radio at egta, said, “Radio’s future in the connected car is not just a matter for broadcasters, it is about preserving consumer choice, accessibility and the unique value that radio brings as a trusted companion to millions of listeners every day. egta is proud to support the Radio Ready initiative and the industry’s collective effort to ensure that radio remains easy to find, easy to access and ready for the connected future.” Tobias Nielsen, senior vice president of digital at Bauer Media Audio, said, “Radio Ready is a unified industry response to a shared challenge.
