Rockstar's great Midnight Club racing series was killed off for one simple reason, and you can probably guess what it was I'll give you a hint: It rhymes with three pee yay. Every few years or so I find myself idly wondering whatever happened to Midnight Club, Rockstar's arcade street racing series. I quite liked Midnight Club 2 back in the day, although I fell away from the series after that because, in fine Rockstar fashion, subsequent games weren't released on PC. The series as a whole ground to a halt in 2008 with Midnight Club: Los Angeles—despite going over well with critics, the series was never heard from again. In a new interview with Kiwi Talkz on Insider Gaming, former Rockstar designer Kris Roberts, who worked on multiple Midnight Club games and Red Dead Redemption before leaving in 2010, said there were a few factors involved in the decision to kill the series, including missed deadlines and "non-trivial conflict" between Rockstar New York and the San Diego studio where Midnight Club was developed, but the obvious elephant in the room was Grand Theft Auto. "The perception was we never got the accolades or the reception," Roberts said. "The New York perspective was, 'You’re not GTA.' When you’re the red-headed stepchild project—you know, we’re doing a good job, we’re world-class, but we’re still treated less than. It was challenging." The NASCAR Cup Series driver had never made a start at Iowa in any series. In 2026, Ware returns to the .875-mile oval with firsthand experience, allowing the 30-year-old racer to juxtapose his sim sessions with the reality of what he felt a year ago in the Hawkeye State. “I learned the track is very abrasive,” said Ware when asked about the difference between racing Iowa in simulation and turning actual laps on its asphalt. “They’ve done some asphalt work, but it’s disconnected as far as where the new patches of pavement are compared to the old, and so that created a lack of forward drive. It definitely was one of the tougher races we had last year. But it was also tangible experience, too. We didn’t have that before.” Simulation is incredibly valuable. The immersive, full-motion platform technology allows drivers and their teams to optimize their setups for individual track configurations, and for drivers to log practice laps ahead of an upcoming race weekend. 2026-27 eNASCAR College iRacing Series kicks off in September; Sign up now! August 4th, 2026 by Justin Melillo The eNASCAR College iRacing Series in partnership with the PlayVS College League is back for the 2026-27 academic year with $60,000 in scholarships on the line. As previously announced, the season expands from six Tournaments to eight, with two IMSA tournaments bringing two road course races at Watkins Glen and Daytona, as well as a new car to the series—the Ford Mustang GT4, over the span of the season. All Tournaments still consist of a Time Attack, followed by two weeks of racing. Four Tournaments will take place during the Fall Semester from September to November. The other four for the Spring semester are scheduled between January and March. The points structure also gets an overhaul this upcoming season, as does the event format. Tournament sizes will change to 100 entries. Additional points will now be awarded in the semifinals. Week 2 Points will mirror the real-world NASCAR points system, having an emphasis on winning. CINCINNATI — Cincinnati racing driver Evagoras Papasavvas is leading the FR Americas championship and has his sights set on IndyCar, including the Indy 500 and the full NTT IndyCar Series. Papasavvas, who started racing go-karts at around 6 years old after his father introduced him to the sport, has steadily climbed the ranks from karting to open-wheel cars. "It all starts from just a love for cars and for racing," Papasavvas said. His father was a race car driver himself, and that early influence set Papasavvas on a path defined by passion and persistence. "It all just comes from just a passion and a determination to just keep working on it and just keep winning no matter how hard times get," Papasavvas said. His commitment to racing has come with real sacrifices. Papasavvas missed his high school graduation because he had a race in Wisconsin that same weekend. His mother questioned the decision, but he had no doubts. "I was so sure that I definitely wanted, I needed to go to this race," he said. "I wanted to go to this race over the graduation because this is my career, this is what my life is." Beyond the track, he is already working to build the business side of his racing career. He attended CES, a major technology convention in Las Vegas, in January, where he connected with potential partners and sponsors alongside his management team. "Ever since then we've just been constantly working with these companies to build a partnership, build a relationship to not only benefit myself in racing, but to also benefit them in the long term so we can both grow and both develop in our own ways together," Papasavvas said. Here is what is already confirmed, what the recent history suggests, and why the MotoGP angle is the one to watch. Gamescom is not a sim racing show. It is a 230,000 square metre video game trade fair that pulls in over a thousand exhibitors and more than 300,000 visitors. And yet, over the last few years, the last week of August in Cologne has turned into one of the two or three moments in the calendar when sim racing hardware brands actually put new products on the table. Gamescom 2026 runs from 26 to 30 August at Koelnmesse, with Opening Night Live on the evening of Tuesday 25 August. The 2025 Season 4 release brought the new Sim UI. The 2024 edition reshaped the racing categories. And every sign points to 2026 Season 4 being another one of those: Career Mode has been in the pipeline for over a year, and iRacing has confirmed it will be detailed in full in the August development blog. While we wait for that blog, which usually lands in the final week of the month, here is everything the company has already committed to publicly, sorted by how firm it actually is. Because on iRacing there is a meaningful difference between “confirmed for this build” and “confirmed, but with no date attached”. When the build arrives There is no official date yet. What there is, though, is a very reliable pattern. Season 4 has landed on 8 September 2021, 7 September 2022, 6 September 2023, 4 September 2024 and 9 September 2025. Always on a Tuesday, always in the first half of the month. The season itself then starts roughly a week after the build. In 2025 the build dropped on 9 September and the season went green on the 16th. Applying the same logic, the sensible expectation is a build around 8 September with 2026 Season 4 starting around 15 September 2026. Before that comes Week 13, the one week gap between seasons where iRacing traditionally tests features in the open before committing to them. I’m not the biggest simulator nerd — it’s an area of gaming I’ve dabbled with but never been enraptured by — but after a colleague shared Mitchell’s blog with us where he details the over three-year-long journey he has been on to construct this simulator, I can’t help but be impressed by the dedication and beauty of his creation. A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday. There isn’t a single accelerated tire wear multiplier or mandatory pit stop across any of the three races this time, so tire and fuel management simply isn’t a factor. That predictability shows up most literally in Race C, which sends Gr.3 cars around Tokyo Expressway’s East layout in the clockwise direction. Ten laps on Racing Hard tires, BOP set to High Speed, and brake balance the only setting left open beyond that. It’s about as straightforward a Gr.3 sprint as the Expressway offers. Race B sends Gr.4 machinery back to the Red Bull Ring, the Austrian circuit’s third appearance in Daily Races so far this year. This time it’s Gr.4’s turn, and with the multipliers back to 1x, there’s no pit strategy to think about here either: five laps on Racing Medium tires, BOP set to Mid Speed, and brake balance again the only setting up for grabs. Race A closes out the set with a one-make event at Autodromo Nazionale Monza: four laps in the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 ’09 on Sports Soft tires. BOP is set to High Speed, settings are fully Specified, it’s a rolling start like the other two races, and results won’t count towards your Driver Rating. No mandatory stop here either, so all three races this week come down to pure pace rather than tire or fuel management.
