TRUCKS: Failing cool suit on a scorching North Wilkesboro track puts Donovan Strauss out of his Truck Series debut by Brock Beard / LASTCAR.info Editor-in-Chief Donovan Strauss picked up the 1st last-place finish of his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career in Saturday’s Faith Fest 250 at the North Wilkesboro Speedway when his #4 Nightclubs Suck Chevrolet fell out with overheating issues after he completed 134 of 250 laps. The finish came in Strauss’ series debut. In the Truck Series’ last-place rankings, it was the 10th for the #4, the 27th from overheating issues, and the 470th for Chevrolet. Across NASCAR’s top three series, it was the 79th for the #4, the 185th from overheating, and the 2,055th for Chevrolet. Like many other young drivers in today’s NASCAR, the 20-year-old Strauss cut his teeth in sim racing, earning his place in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series driving for Williams eSports. He then made the jump to late models in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour, where he’s turned many laps on the North Wilkesboro track for AK Performance. It was then announced earlier this month that Strauss would make his first Truck Series attempt for Niece Motorsports in their part-time #4. He’d be sponsored by Nightclubs Suck, an athletic apparel company co-founded by Ty Martin and Clayton Wilson. The team’s press release indicated promo code “Strauss” would earn fans 15% off their online orders. Strauss was one of 39 drivers originally entered to attempt Sunday’s field of 36, the largest entry list since the season opener in Daytona. Otis not only became the first Welshman to win the title, but the youngest F1 Esports world champion in history. "You don't really see many Welsh people that are successful in motor sport these days," he said. "So I'm really proud to represent the country, it's super cool." What is F1 Sim Racing? F1 Sim Racing is a professional programme, promoted by Formula One using the Esports game. It was created in 2017 using the official video game to allow its community of gamers to have better engagement with the sport. More than 60,000 people tried to qualify for the finals in the first season, and these were watched by viewers from 123 countries. It has grown every year since. The overall prize money for the competition is $750,000 (£562,000), which is split between all the teams - depending on their finishing place. Why NASCAR Is Only Running 465 HP at Its Next Daytona <b>Race</b>

When the NASCAR Cup Series returns to Daytona on August 29 for the Coke Zero Sugar 400, the cars will be making just 465 horsepower. This 45-hp reduction from the previous Superspeedway package means that the Ford Mustang Dark Horse-branded Cup car will have less power than a stock Mustang GT, which is rated at 480 hp, and will be 35 hp down on the (non-supercharged) Dark Horse road car. But there’s a reason for that. The horsepower reduction compensates for reduced downforce, which NASCAR is implementing in the hope of improving the spectacle. For the next Daytona race, rear spoilers will be reduced from 7 inches to 4 inches, NASCAR said earlier this week. The lower spoiler height—the same currently used at intermediate tracks like Atlanta—is expected to allow single cars to run up to 3 mph faster and thus allow for easier overtaking. It follows a trend of de-emphasizing horsepower in the Next-Gen era. The change—which isn’t expected to affect the speed of cars running in packs—is the latest attempt by NASCAR to improve Superspeedway racing, where track position is often earned in the pits because cars simply aren’t as fast on their own as they are in a pack.
