The next Assetto Corsa EVO update will continue the recent trend of further race cars to perhaps better align with the title’s multiplayer aspirations. Following the likes of the Ferrari 296 and Ford Mustang GT3 models in the recent version 0.6 update in April, the next (0.7) early access update will include two GT2-spec motorsport-derived Porsches. It has now been confirmed that they will be joined by the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. One of the oldest currently-homologated GT3-spec machines, with Audi Sport no longer officially backing the V10-powered project, one was used to win last weekend’s GT World Challenge Europe round at Monza. Acer reveals secondary display for Flight Simulator, sim racing and productivity apps Ahead of Computex, Acer showed the PM131QT secondary display in a showroom in Taipei. Unlike conventional PC monitors, the PM131QT has a very wide aspect ratio. It measures 1920 pixels across but only 720 pixels vertically, with a display diagonal of 12.3 inches. That makes this display ideal for smaller tools but also for games with multi-monitor support where instruments, for example, need to be moved elsewhere. A conventional second monitor is not always ideal for this, as it may simply be too large. In Microsoft Flight Simulator, smaller instruments could easily be moved to the PM131QT, which could then serve as a third or fourth monitor depending on the setup. This should also work with X-Plane, see the video at the end of the article for a similar situation. However, this has a significant impact on the frame rate there. Since Acer’s monitor has far fewer pixels than a typical second monitor, that should have a positive effect. Racing sims should also be a good candidate for this. Here, too, some instruments are not important enough to remain on the main screen. Acer itself is naturally focusing more on professional applications. Tools could be placed there instead. Thanks to the touchscreen, direct operation is also possible. The monitor can also be used in portrait mode, allowing it to be positioned on the side, for example. Fernando Alonso remains one of two drivers able to pursue the elusive and coveted Triple Crown of Motrosport, and 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button believes the Spaniard still has the best chance of accomplishing the feat. The Triple Crown consists of victories in the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alonso has already secured two of those prizes, winning the Monaco Grand Prix in 2006 and 2007 before adding back to back Le Mans victories with Toyota in 2018 and 2019. That leaves only the Indianapolis 500 standing between the Aston Martin driver and a place among motorsport's most exclusive club. In his Jenson's Journal for Aston Martin, regarding Alonso's chances, Button wrote: "Fernando probably has the best shot of anyone at completing the Triple Crown because he's already won Monaco and Le Mans, and he's come close at Indy, having led there. If he wants another go at it, he absolutely has a chance." But coming out of the post-war era, the technology they had, the cars, the tracks, the danger…Then the rise in speeds we saw in the 1960s, and that's when you really began to see more and more deaths. In the late ‘60s, early ‘70s, the statistics were horrible. But that was when Jackie Stewart, Jacky Ickx, all those great characters came through. As a racing driver myself, would I have wanted to race in that era? I think I would have been attracted to it, certainly. We didn’t know what we know today about technology – but because so many lives have passed, they've learned so much from that.

Haptics are the next big thing you should care about if you love <b>racing</b> games

So, too, is the chase to build the most realistic experiences possible. At the recent Sim Racing Expo in Charlotte I saw a lot of wild hardware, some of it with equally wild price tags. But one of the more interesting things I got to experience was from Sensit Haptics. The company was showing off its MTC-P Extreme haptic seat insert, a product you can use right now with some of the most popular racing games on the planet to add an extra dimension to your experience. It's not the cheapest, coming in at a little over double the price of the Razer Freyja, the only other haptic seat cushion I've personally tested. But with a narrow focus, in this case, sim-racing, the results are astonishing. I have limited real-world track racing experience, but I have done some. The one constant I tried to get a feel for the accuracy of the haptics was driving over curbs. They're horrible on any track, and taking movement out of the equation, the feel is uncanny. If I'd thought to point a camera at my face while I tried it, you'd see the shock. When it comes to racing, the feel through the seat of your pants is almost as important as seeing where you're going. You can feel the car beginning to slide, for example, before you'll see it. This is where Sensit's haptics really comes alive. During my time testing it out, I did a run around Road Atlanta, and the vibration feedback was electrifying.
