The report, titled “Full-Scale Electric Vehicle Fire Experiments and Recommendations for Fire Incident Response,” was released this week and is built on eighteen full-scale vehicle burns conducted under controlled conditions. The research team ran nine free burns, meaning fires allowed to progress without any suppression applied, to establish a baseline comparison between EVs and internal combustion vehicles. It then burned nine additional EVs to test how common suppression tactics performed against a battery fire, including water alone, EV-specific fire blankets, and water combined with an added suppression agent. Every EV tested was fully charged before ignition. Fires were started with a propane burner and allowed to grow for six minutes before crews began suppression, a delay chosen specifically to mirror typical fire department response times across North America. Tesla’s factory in Shanghai had its best June ever, according to the China Passenger Car Association. Tesla built 93,579 cars in China that month, a hefty 38 percent increase compared to June 2025, according to CPCA’s data. But that production isn’t translating into bumper sales to Chinese customers. Rather, sales have been down quarter on quarter in China for more than a year now, particularly as buyers tire of the Model 3 sedan. Almost 40 percent of the EVs that Tesla built in June were destined for export. And in Q2 in total, more than 50 percent—just—of the cars it built were for Europe, Canada, and other Asian markets: 128,394 versus the 126,157 Chinese-built Teslas that were sold to Chinese buyers. Low labor costs compared to Germany or the US are a big boon here, as are cheaper components from local suppliers. Throw in some export-related tax rebates from the Chinese government, and it’s not hard to see how Tesla’s Shanghai plant is an extremely valuable asset. What if you could pay for parking right from the driver’s seat, without even using an app on your phone? It’s the first step in a dream for those of us sick of having to download custom apps for everything from restaurant menus to shopping to logging in to work and dimming your lights. ParkMobile announced it is working up with Parkopedia, a parking services provider that helps drivers find nearby parking, to bake the ability to pay for parking straight into compatible vehicle infotainment systems. The service would cover more than 80,000 locations across the United States. The collab combines ParkMobile’s parking payment network with Parkopedia’s in-vehicle integration platform. Together, the companies say the service covers a good chunk of the more than 500,000 parking locations available across the country and is designed to make paying for parking faster and less of a hassle by eliminating the need to switch between mobile apps. Analysts see the move as part of a bigger trend among automakers looking to expand their connected-vehicle services (read: money-making opportunities) beyond navigation and entertainment. Manufacturers have begun to integrate features such as fuel payment, EV charging, and toll payment directly into vehicle dashboards to try and create a more seamless ownership experience.
