Yotta Automated Software Solutions (YASSI) is making a notable announcement per week nowadays. The pattern continued Monday when the provider of real-time vehicle and title data infrastructure for the automotive, insurance, and lending industries introduced VIN360. YASSI highlighted VIN360 is a new intelligence layer that can analyze the full history associated with a single VIN. By finding fraud indicators, ownership issues, and risk signals that matter most, YASSI said VIN360 can help organizations recognize potential risk before costly decisions are made. The launch of VIN360 came after YASSI announced the successful completion of its latest SOC 2 Type II certification with zero exceptions as well as availability of its Easy-Connect API platform. YASSI explained how VIN360 can solve another problem in the car business. Experts said title fraud and other vehicle-related risks often become apparent only when multiple data points are evaluated together. Factors such as a recently issued title, an undisclosed lien, or inconsistencies in an ownership record may indicate heightened risk when considered within the broader context of a vehicle’s history. William Stopford Alfa Romeo's cheapest model in Australia just got cheaper 3 Hours Ago Cars could soon be electronically slowed or limited, with geofencing technology making speeding impossible in urban areas, a professor claims. Journalist The days of driving as fast as you like through urban streets could eventually come to an end, according to a leading transport academic, who believes technology already exists to stop motorists from exceeding speed limits. Marco te Brömmelstroet, a social scientist and professor at the University of Amsterdam, told Q&A geofencing could fundamentally change how cars operate in cities over the next two decades, automatically preventing drivers from exceeding speed limits in designated areas. "My dream is that in 20 years, we will look back and find it unbelievable that we allowed humans to drive 2000 kilo vehicles as fast as they wanted in our cities," Mr te Brömmelstroet said. "We have the technology now – like geofencing – to prevent that." While geofenced speed limiting remains rare in privately owned passenger vehicles, the underlying technology is already available in many modern cars. Geofencing can use a vehicle's GPS location, digital maps, cameras, and onboard software to create virtual boundaries that can alter how a vehicle behaves in specific locations. Rather than relying solely on roadside speed cameras or police enforcement, a geofenced vehicle can identify its location and automatically limit acceleration or cap its maximum speed within predefined zones. For example, a vehicle could be restricted to 30km/h outside a school during pick-up and drop-off times, limited to 20km/h in pedestrian precincts, or prevented from exceeding residential speed limits before returning to normal operation on open roads. In most cases, the system wouldn't necessarily apply the brakes. Instead, it would simply prevent the vehicle from accelerating beyond the applicable speed limit. Mr te

The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) is calling on the Australian Government to include access to repair and maintenance telematics data in its proposed reforms to Australia’s Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme (MVIS). AAAA CEO Stuart Charity said recent reporting had focused attention on the volume of information modern vehicles can collect, including location, driving behaviour, vehicle performance and other connected vehicle information. “Motorists are rightly asking what information connected vehicles are collecting, where it is going and how it is being used,” Charity said. “But there is another important question. If a vehicle is already generating the information needed to diagnose, maintain and repair it, why can’t the owner choose to share that information with the qualified repairer they trust?” Australia’s right-to-repair legislation requires vehicle manufacturers to provide service and repair information to independent workshops, but it does not cover telematics data increasingly used for diagnostics and vehicle maintenance. “As vehicle technology evolves, diagnostics are steadily moving beyond the workshop plug and onto manufacturer-controlled telematics platforms,” Charity said. “If the law doesn't evolve as well, manufacturers will increasingly have exclusive access to information about the condition of a customer's vehicle, while the independent repairer chosen by that customer is locked out.” The Association said privacy and right to repair should work together, with consumers retaining both strong privacy protections and the right to authorise secure access to the repair and maintenance information needed to keep their vehicles safely on the road. “This isn't about unrestricted access to personal information. It is about giving motorists control over who can access the repair information produced by the vehicle they own, through secure and appropriately regulated systems,” Charity said. Recent calls for stronger connected vehicle privacy protections, along with investigations into the handling of vehicle data by major manufacturers,

Renault, Nissan partner with Microsoft for connected car technology
EghtesadOnline: Renault SA's carmaking alliance with Nissan Motor Co is partnering with Microsoft Corp to develop cloud-based services for cars, a step toward the group's plans to build self-driving automobiles by 2020.
The services, based on Microsoft's Azure cloud service, will include advanced navigation, predictive maintenance and over-the-air software updates, according to Reuters.
Renault and Nissan plan to launch more than 10 vehicles with autonomous drive technology by 2020. In January, the alliance hired former Nokia executive Ogi Redzic to lead its connected car efforts.
The alliance said last week it would buy French software development company Sylpheo to offer new services including ride hailing and car sharing.
Automakers from Toyota Motor Corp to General Motors have been investing in software firms and tech start-ups to position themselves for the rise of autonomous driving, ride-sharing and other connected services which threaten the traditional vehicle ownership model that has dominated the past century.

William Stopford Alfa Romeo's cheapest model in Australia just got cheaper 4 Hours Ago Ford CEO Jim Farley believes Chinese automakers could break into the US market within the next decade despite hefty tariffs and technology bans. Managing Editor Ford CEO Jim Farley says he believes Chinese automakers will finally enter the US market within the next five to 10 years, despite some of the toughest trade barriers designed to keep them out of the world’s second-largest auto market. Speaking during an internal town hall meeting with employees, Mr Farley reportedly said Ford is preparing for a future where Chinese brands are competing directly in the US, with senior executives suggesting such a move is more likely towards the end of that timeframe. The comments, first reported by Reuters, come as US lawmakers continue to tighten restrictions on Chinese-built vehicles, while the Trump administration maintains tariffs and technology bans introduced under the previous Biden administration. Currently, Chinese electric vehicles face tariffs of around 100 per cent when imported into the US, while rules banning Chinese-developed connected-car software from the 2027 model year and hardware from 2030 remain in place due to national security concerns. Even so, Mr Farley has repeatedly warned Ford can't rely on those barriers lasting forever. "We have to go toe-to-toe with China," Ford executive chair Bill Ford said earlier this month. "We can't expect to keep them out forever, and we have to be able to beat them at their own game." Mr Farley has been one of the automotive industry's most outspoken leaders on the rapid rise of Chinese manufacturers, particularly BYD, which has become one of the world's largest producers of electrified vehicles. Ford is already responding by developing a new family of low-cost electric vehicles designed from the ground up to match the

Sean Duffy Wants To Introduce Freedom Cars To Unshackle Us From The Constraints Of Data-Bonded Cars No, a Freedom Car is not the latest Trump-branded commodity coming to a grift-like funding campaign near you. What the nation's reality TV Transportation Secretary is pushing as a "Freedom Car" though, in his July 22 letter to Congress, is a car that would free Americans from the bond(age)s of driving connected vehicles and dealing with automated driving systems. And sadly this dream has our attention. It's important to note that this is not a real car or a new car coming soon. In Duffy's letter, shared by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, its part of one of several policies the Trump administration has prioritized and are asking Congress to consider adding them to upcoming agenda items. The Freedom Car, happens to be one crucial item tucked away in the letter's appendix. According to Duffy, the Freedom Car is mean to protect consumer choice with the "Right to Drive Disconnected and Non-Automated" vehicles. This would essentially prohibit any entity from a federal to local level from mandating vehicles sold or operated on public roads would have to be equipped with automated driving systems, or have the capability to transmit data wirelessly. The freedom to drive a car with less technology Automakers' questionable data collection practices, including selling data to your insurers have already inspired the introduction of the Data Rights for Information and Vehicle Electronics in Real-time Act also known as the DRIVER act in 2025. The DRIVER act is meant to limit what data and how much of it could be shared and sold, which has had nearly no regulation since automakers figured out how to do it. Thanks "connectivity" packages and the need for over-the-air updates for that. Duffy's "Freedom

Ford CEO Jim Farley told employees this week that Chinese electric vehicles could reach the United States within five to ten years, according to a Reuters report published on July 30. Farley and other senior executives made the comments during an employee town hall, adding that entry is more likely toward the end of that window. A Ford spokesperson declined to comment on the private meeting. The timeline is notable given the layers of protection currently shielding the US market. Chinese-made vehicles face cumulative tariffs exceeding 125 percent, and the Connected Vehicle Rule has already forced Polestar out of the US despite the Geely-owned brand building its flagship SUV at a Volvo plant in South Carolina. A bipartisan Senate bill advanced by the Commerce Committee on July 22 would go further, banning any automaker with more than 15 percent Chinese ownership from selling vehicles in America. Farley has been more vocal about the Chinese threat than his counterparts at other American automakers. He has previously said Chinese EVs should not be allowed into the country, but the town hall comments suggest Ford’s internal planning assumes the barriers will not hold indefinitely. Reuters reported that Farley framed the message as a call to compete rather than a call to retreat. The speed gap between Chinese and Western automakers underscores why Ford is worried. Chinese firms routinely bring new models from concept to showroom in 18 to 22 months, according to industry analyses, while Detroit’s development cycles still stretch to four or five years. That pace has produced an extraordinary volume of new vehicles, with roughly 650 new or updated models launched in China in the first half of 2026 alone, according to Carscoops. Chinese EVs are already circling the US market through neighbouring countries. Canada struck a deal in January allowing

For decades, the most lucrative used-car bargains have been driven by dramatic, brand-altering structural shifts. Think of the brutal, steep depreciation curves that turned the ultra-complex, tech-heavy Mercedes-Benz S-Class into a tempting secondary-market roll of the dice for the brave. Think of the fire-sale pricing that followed the sudden, tragic demise of Saab, or the residual-value free-fall that turned pristine Jaguar sports cars into pennies-on-the-dollar performance steals. Electric vehicles have already completely rewritten the depreciation playbook, accelerating the drop with rapid battery tech cycles and volatile consumer demand. But a sudden regulatory hammer from Washington is about to create an unprecedented anomaly on the used market. A highly regarded premium EV brand is suddenly on an official countdown clock in America, paving the way for what could be one of the cheapest ways to acquire a genuinely luxury EV experience—provided you can navigate the unique software and support caveats that come with it. The Coming Secondary-Market Anomaly The secondary automotive market thrives on mainstream panic. When a luxury automaker announces it is pulling up stakes, mainstream consumers run for the hills. Dealerships grow anxious, trade-in values soften, and regular buyers become terrified of being stuck with an orphan product. This exact consumer flight is what triggers a used-market anomaly. For the enthusiast and the value-focused buyer, this panic is a massive opportunity. When retail demand for a premium product plunges overnight while the underlying hardware remains thoroughly excellent, prices collapse far below what the vehicle’s actual build quality, performance, and material luxury warrant. We saw it with the finest European grand tourers of the past, and we are about to see it hit a lineup of avant-garde electric vehicles. The Scandi-Minimalist Product Lineup The vehicles poised to slide down this unique depreciation curve are none other than Polestar’s core entries:
