Assetto Corsa Rally has officially been selected as the platform for the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour, a new international rally esports competition backed by the FIA. The announcement is a major win for 505 Games, Supernova Games Studios, and KUNOS Simulazioni. It also gives Assetto Corsa Rally a huge stamp of approval while the game continues its Early Access journey on Steam. For years, FIA esports has been closely tied to circuit racing. In the closing laps, Scott managed to eke by Garrett Manes for the top spot to take the win. Scoring his second victory of the season, however, was not enough to vault the former Championship Series competitor back into the Free Agency pool, as Scott wound up finishing 36th following the drop, 90 points shy of the cut line at 30th. Cool Performance Simulators work with some of the best drivers in the world, including 2025 Formula One World Champion Lando Norris and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson. At Supercar Blondie, we were lucky enough to chat with Joel Somerville, the CMO of the company, about how it started and the success the company has had. The simulators it offers are some of the coolest in the world, and best of all, you can buy one to use in your own home. How Cool Performance Simulators started While you might think sim racing is quite new, it actually started much longer ago than you’d expect. “We’ve been in the business for around about 15 years or so now, quite a long time now,” Somerville told Supercar Blondie. When the business started, it was a far cry from what the company offers today. “It was much more on the one-to-one driver training side of things, working with drivers in a lot of different racing categories, from I guess when they start single seaters,” he added. Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the “TGR e-Motorsports Challenge League 2026,” a new sim-to-real talent pathway aimed at young drivers in Japan, with the winner earning a fully-funded season of competitive karting in 2027. The announcement comes a little over a year after Toyota shut down the Gazoo Racing GT Cup, the long-running one-make Gran Turismo championship that ran from 2019 to 2024 and produced a string of high-profile crossover champions. Where the GR GT Cup sat at the elite end of competitive Gran Turismo, this new program sits at the opposite end (focused entirely on finding the next generation). A Different Kind of Toyota Esports Eligibility is narrow. Entrants need to have been born between April 2, 2011 and April 1, 2016 (so roughly 10 to 15 years old when the competition kicks off), reside in Japan, and have a “stated ambition to become a real-world racing driver”. That last criterion is unusual to see written into a sim racing entry form, but it tells you Toyota is looking for kids who already know what they want to do. The online qualifier runs inside Gran Turismo 7 from June 13 to June 27, 2026, as a time trial in the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept ’18 around Sainte-Croix Circuit B. A field of around 20 will then be invited to remote interviews in early August, before the top 12 are flown to a special venue in Aichi Prefecture for a two-day offline final on September 26 and 27. That offline event is where the structure starts to look different from a typical esports prize playoff. Assetto Corsa Rally and FIA Announce Global Esports Partnership Introducing the "FIA Esports Global Rally Tour" Milan, April 29th – 505 Games and Supernova Games Studios, in technical partnership with KUNOS Simulazioni, are proud to announce that Assetto Corsa Rally (ACR) has been chosen by FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile - the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide) as the exclusive official platform for a landmark new international rally esports competition: the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour. This new initiative, driven by FIA President H.E. The FIA Esports Global Rally Tour will feature a multi‑stage competitive format, giving thousands of Assetto Corsa Rally players worldwide the opportunity to compete in a structured, merit‑based championship. Beginning on May 12, a global online qualifier hosted on Assetto Corsa Rally will select 56 top drivers worldwide: 16 from Europe (combined North and South) and 8 from each of the other five participating regions MENA, North America, South America, Asia‑Pacific, and Africa. Following the initial qualification phase, the competition will move into regional shootouts, featuring a knockout format with quarter‑finals, semi‑finals, and a final. Learn To Drive Like It's The 1970s With This Aetna Drivotrainer Simulator There's a sim rig for sale on Bring a Trailer right now, but it isn't the cool kind that makes you feel like an F1 driver or an engineer for a car company. Instead, this thing will make you feel like you're taking your driver's test behind the wheel of a Chevrolet in 1974. If that seems like your idea of a good time, then get your bid-clicking finger ready — there's five days left in the auction, and the top bid is just $151 as of the time of this writing. It's called a Drivotrainer, and was made by Doron Precision Systems to simulate driving on American roads to help with driver's ed. However, it was Aetna Insurance Company that had the Drivotrainer system created in 1953, debuting it at the Brooklyn High School for Automotive Trades. This specific one is said to be from the late 1970s, according to the seller, and that looks about right, judging by the steering wheel and gauges that were taken from a Chevy Impala. How does it work and what can you do with it? Can you actually use it to learn how to drive? Without the accompanying screen and instructor, probably not. The Drivotrainer worked by having student drivers sit in it while in front of a screen, showing a pre-recorded driving route. The student's inputs would then be sent to a computer that would print out their results, and an instructor would grade them. So as a standalone device, this Drivotrainer isn't much good as a training tool. That doesn't mean it's a worthless antique, though.
