In the first year of being his team’s “Hybrid Racer”, Lowe went winless in the Championship Series for the first time since the 2021 season, and he was relegated down into the Qualifying Series to kick off 2026. Now, Lowe is hitting his stride on both accounts, finding success on the V8GP circuit overseas while existing in the top half of the Championship Series standings entering Iowa Speedway on Tuesday night. After the dust settled on the caution-free night in Iowa, Lowe managed to not only win his Heat race and lead the opening stint, but also pass the only driver previously to win a points-paying race at Iowa, Spire Motorsports’ Steven Wilson, through a wild pit cycle on a setup where it was hard to pass, claiming his sixth-career Championship Series win, tying for 11th on the all-time most wins list. Nissan’s new plan to get in more homes Amid its radical restructure and focus on the Nismo brand, Nissan has entered a licensing deal with one of the biggest sim racing brands. Nissan is relying on the performance and enthusiast aspect of its business to get it out of a hole, and has further strengthened that plan by announcing a new partnership with sim racing giants Fanatec. Labelled as a new licensing partnership, the Fanatec x Nissan deal will see the German-based company develop officially licensed sim racing steering wheels linking to the Japanese marque’s heritage. It appears just one wheel will be developed, with Fanatec saying it’ll have “a strong focus on craftsmanship, ergonomic precision, and visual authenticity to ensure sim racers feel fully connected to the road and immersed in the experience”. The companies have yet to reveal what vehicle the wheel will be based on, whether it’ll take inspiration from the GT-R family, the Z cars or one of Nissan’s many racers. “We are thrilled to welcome Fanatec on board and are excited to collaborate with them on this new, exciting, licensed category extension for Nissan,” said Nissan senior manager, Yukika Sato. “We have long-standing gaming partners that we support and an avid global fan base of keen sim racers, so we are sure this licensed product will be a welcome addition!” Fanatec already offers a number of licensed steering wheels for its wheel bases based on existing designs, with Porsche, BMW and Bentley offering their racing car cockpits as the basis of the sim racing products. Nissan is also no stranger to racing-based video games, having been closely associated with Gran Turismo through the ‘GT Academy’ partnership, which ran between 2008 and 2016.

Project ACCESS opens F1 STEM pathways for underrepresented students at British GP Fifteen first-time Grand Prix guests visited Red Bull Racing’s Silverstone garage through Driven By Us, Silverstone UTC and Girls on Track UK. Project ACCESS brought 15 first-time Grand Prix guests into the Formula 1 paddock at Silverstone last Friday, giving students and aspiring motorsport professionals from underrepresented groups direct access to Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology during the British Grand Prix weekend. The project involved three partner organizations: Driven By Us, Silverstone UTC and Girls on Track UK. Participants were given behind-the-scenes access to the Red Bull Racing campus, the Silverstone paddock, live garage operations, team radio, engineering conversations and career guidance during a working race weekend. Driven By Us describes itself as a community-driven organization working to empower aspiring leaders from ethnic minorities and underrepresented groups in the automotive and motorsport industry. Silverstone UTC, which opened in September 2013, is based at the Silverstone racing grounds and focuses on High Performance Engineering, Cyber Security and Business with Events Management. Girls on Track UK is described as a national initiative designed to inspire, educate and support girls and young women into motorsport and related careers through events, workshops and career insight sessions. Dr. Marcia Goddard, a neuroscientist and high-performance consultant who has worked with Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology, shared details of the initiative on LinkedIn. She said the 15 guests had never previously attended a Grand Prix. A new Richmond entertainment venue is giving locals the chance to feel the rush of motorsport without getting behind the wheel of a real race car, with full-motion rigs, VR headsets and head-to-head racing roaring seven days a week. Sim Racing Adelaide is designed to make the feeling of motorsport more accessible, giving first-timers, families, motoring enthusiasts and groups a way to experience racing without the cost, pressure or barriers of a real track day. The centre was founded by race car driver Ivan Vantagiato, who has spent more than 23 years in motorsport after first starting in go-karting. More recently, he has raced cars nationally and runs his own race team, Slipstream Autosport. “We wanted to create a place where anyone can experience what it’s like to drive a race car,” Ivan said. “You don’t need a racing licence, expensive equipment or any experience just turn up and enjoy the thrill.” The centre has already become a popular option for school holiday fun, birthday parties, families, groups of friends and corporate events. “The smiles when families race each other is what make this business so rewarding,” Ivan said. “We’ve only been open for three months, and the response from Adelaide has been incredible. “It’s exciting to see so many people discovering sim racing for the first time.” One of those experiences came on a Monday morning, when a little girl came in with her family and drove through the fun of the rainbow road track. What does help for me is to run cars that are a few steps up, like a GT4 or GT3 car on the CTMP layout, or even an Indy car – that way, I can corner faster and get kind of used to carrying a lot of speed through those high commitment, high speed corners, and learn how to really throw the car into corners hard and trust that it will stick. The UK government’s ambition to establish a domestic fusion industry depends on a prototype power plant on the site of a former coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire – a project delivered by UK Fusion Energy with the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). Simulation capability lead Tom Deighan explains why advanced simulation and modelling technologies are bridging the gap between theoretical fusion and this first-of-a-kind tech demonstrator. Fusion is at an inflection point. Is that changing what work is being done? As a first-of-a-kind project, the biggest challenge is the absence of a previous fusion plant to refer to and understand how everything will perform. We have a number of experimental facilities, such as CHIMERA (Combined Heating and Magnetic Research Apparatus), under construction at UKAEA South Yorkshire, which will enable testing in a combined thermal and electromagnetic environment, and the LIBRTI (Lithium Breeding Tritium Innovation) programme, aiming to study and validate tritium breeding technologies. But these are looking at subsets of physics rather than the whole system. The challenge for engineers is how we deploy simulation effectively, along with the knowledge from these experiments, to build enough confidence in a full power plant design. How is your use of simulation technologies changing? Within fusion engineering, much of the work focuses on the impact of plasma on surrounding systems. That involves thermal-structural analysis and understanding how neutrons move through materials and structures. Traditionally, those analyses have been discrete, helping to answer specific questions or explain an experiment’s outcome. When you move to designing a full power plant, those questions need to be considered together. The focus now is on bringing those different simulation activities into combined workflows so we can understand system behaviour as a whole.
