In a new satellite-connected car demonstration, Iridium reports a demo in which a Toyota vehicle sent a voice message using Iridium NTN Direct, working with Deutsche Telekom IoT (DT IoT).
The voice message was sent from a Toyota vehicle equipped with a Nordic Semiconductor nRF9151 development board, and a Deutsche Telekom IoT SIM.
“The future of connectivity does not end where terrestrial networks reach their limits,” Deutsche Telekom IoT CEO Christian Schwalbe commented.
This builds on a partnership agreement between Iridium and Deutsche Telekom to incorporate Iridium NTN Direct into its global IoT network.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Two men are in custody after Des Moines police pursued a stolen vehicle connected to a shooting near two Des Moines Public Schools campuses Tuesday.
Police received a license plate reader alert just before 2 p.m. Wednesday identifying the vehicle near Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Carpenter Avenue.
Witnesses had identified the vehicle as being involved in the shooting near Hubbell Elementary School and Roosevelt High School.
An officer spotted it near Southwest Sixth Street and Park Avenue shortly before 4 p.m.
Witnesses identified the men as 23-year-old Immanuel Austin and 24-year-old Donta Clyce Harris.
