What started as a childhood passion has become a collegiate competitive racing team. Freshman Riley Haig, founder of Gobbler Racing, is preparing to lead the team to its first competition in July. “I’ve been around cars since I was five because of my dad,” Haig said. “He drove race cars when I was little, so I’ve always been around them, building them and racing them.” Before coming to Tech, Haig interned with the Collegiate Racing Series. He helped recruit members and colleges to CRS. It was his time here that gave him the knowledge and inspiration to build Gobbler Racing at Tech. “It's all about college education and getting students into motorsports and showing it to them in college, and I really wanted to bring that to VT when I got here,” Haig said. Gobbler Racing is very open and has a wide variety of skills to learn. Through their membership with CRS, they have access to a curriculum, teaching club members about driving a race car, mechanics, team management on race day, marketing and media strategies and business applications. The club is still in its early stages of development. There are currently no dues, and anyone is welcome to stop by a meeting. Gobbler Racing posts updates and links to its GroupMe and Instagram account. In the first six months of being on campus, Gobbler Racing gained 60 members, and this number is only climbing. Currently, many of the members are developing their skills in simulated racing. Through their membership with CRS, they’re able to practice and compete in online simulator racing, enhancing their skills while connecting with other motorsport enthusiasts. “Our students won two of the races this season, so that was a great accomplishment,” Haig said when speaking on the success of their sim racing students. Max Verstappen left a driver stunned with a "special" trick that he and fellow drivers had never seen in a GT3 car. Verstappen has not been enjoying the current Formula One season, with the four-time world champion ninth in the drivers' rankings and without a single podium in three Grands Prix. The Dutchman has been vocal about his frustration over the new cars and regulations brought in, with Verstappen even admitting considering retirement. However, Verstappen did enjoy huge success in his first Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) last month. Advert Competing in a #3 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 car at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, Verstappen and teammates Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon finished first and crossed the finishing line 56 seconds ahead of rivals. The trio were later disqualified after it was uncovered they had used seven sets of tires when the maximum is six. But Verstappen made a big impression in his debut, managing to stay close to Christopher Haase's Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II in the dirty air. Juncadella revealed that Verstappen was able to do so courtesy of a "nice trick" which he "would have never thought of myself" and would not disclose fully. "It was impressive to see how well he understood how to stay that close to Christopher. It was his first time ever having to race like that in a GT3 car on this track", he told Motorsport.com Germany. "He actually did something quite special that we talked about after the race. It’s something I would have never thought of myself—and I’ve been driving GT cars for a long time." “I’m not going to tell you what it is as I’d rather keep that to myself. It’s a nice trick he found out. Maybe I’ll tell you someday." Juncadella hailed Verstappen's "sheer confidence" and believes his

The garage area is buzzing as Rehberg + Bremotion Racing officially pulled the silk off their driver lineup for the 2026 NASCAR Euro Series season. In a move that blends youthful aggression with international open-wheel pedigree, German standout Julien Rehberg and Dutch sensation Beitske Visser will share the controls of the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro. The duo represents a “best of both worlds” approach for the Bremotion stable. Rehberg will handle the heavy lifting in the premier V8GP category, while Visser steps into the OPEN division, marking one of the most anticipated driver pairings on the 2026 grid. At just 20 years old, Haltern am See native Rehberg isn’t just looking for seat time – he’s looking for hardware. After a busy off-season, the Skoda and Opel salesman is ready to clock out of the dealership and clock in at the front of the pack to fight for overall podiums and win ins in the highly decorated Junior Trophy. “The secret is out,” Rehberg announced. “I am thrilled to officially announce that I will be competing. My goals for this year are ambitious: I’m here to fight for podiums and wins. On top of the overall standings, I will be fully focused on collecting podiums in the Junior Trophy.” Rehberg’s dual-threat mission to capture both V8GP glory and the Junior Trophy puts the rest of the field on notice. His “car guy” DNA – ranging from sim racing to wrenching on his own projects – suggests a driver who understands the mechanical soul of the No. 77 just as much as the racing line. Joining Rehberg is Visser, a name synonymous with speed across the European continent. Hailing from Sneek, Netherlands, Visser brings a wealth of experience from the highest levels of single-seater and endurance racing. After a successful evaluation

Formula Ladder Evagoras Papasavvas Joins Crosslink Motorsports for 2026 FR Americas Season Apr 6, 2026 Berg Racing is proud to announce that Tyler Wade will join the team for the 2026 Ligier Junior Formula Championship season, marking the American driver’s debut in competitive formula car racing. Berg Racing is proud to announce that Tyler Wade will join the team for the 2026 Ligier Junior Formula Championship (Ligier JFC) season, marking the American driver’s debut in competitive formula car racing. Hailing from Alameda, Calif., Wade enters his first official racing season after an unconventional but determined journey into motorsport. Unlike many of his peers, Wade did not follow the traditional karting pathway. Instead, his pursuit began during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he built a sim racing program from the ground up before progressing into karting and ultimately formal driver development. His transition to real-world racing came through Allen Berg Racing Schools, where he earned his competition license and continued to refine his skills. A subsequent test with Berg Racing at Road Atlanta in late 2025 led to the opportunity to compete full-time in the Ligier JFC. Wade’s story is also defined by resilience. After earning early opportunities with professional teams, he stepped away from racing to support his family during a critical medical situation involving his sister. Her recovery and perseverance ultimately inspired his return to the sport and pursuit of his racing ambitions. Now backed by partners including Dante’s Inferno and Perlson LLP, Wade will pilot the No. 9 entry as he begins his rookie campaign. Tyler Wade’s Quote: “I’m extremely excited! To come in for my first year and be able to drive for a team with a reputation and culture as professional as theirs is a very rare opportunity. Max Verstappen's GT3 team-mate Dani Juncadella has revealed how the F1 driver discovered a secret trick during his Nurburgring outing - one that established drivers had never thought of. Between the Chinese and Japanese GPs, Verstappen took part in the NLS2 race at the Nurburgring and claimed victory on the road. However, his Mercedes-Benz GT3 car was disqualified hours later for using too many tyre sets, with Juncadella revealing how Verstappen's use of 'dirty air' had stunned rivals as they had not thought of his secret trick. "It was impressive to see how well he understood how to stay so close behind Christopher Haase," Juncadella told Motorsport.com. "It was the first time ever that he had to race this way in a GT3 car on this circuit." "He actually did something very special that we talked about after the race. It's something I would never have thought of myself - and I've been driving GT cars for a long time. I'm not going to tell you what it is, because I'd rather keep that to myself. It's a nice trick he discovered. Maybe someday I'll tell you." "It's not even so much about his driving style; it's the sheer self-assurance he has to jump into a car you hardly know, on a circuit that requires absolute self-assurance. And he was right on top of it from practice on Friday, including in the race. "His experience in sim racing gives him an edge. Through all that online GT racing, he understands exactly how to race against others and how to read situations before they happen. It just shows how passionate he is about racing," the Spaniard said. The original PlayStation brought fans several all-time great racers. Most notably, the system gave us Gran Turismo, which was one of the great early simulation racers that pleased gearheads with its realistic approach. However, players looking for fast-paced thrills that didn’t require quite as much perfection still had plenty of arcade-style racers. These games put players into high-speed racers with more forgiving handling. You still need to have a steady hand at the wheel, but arcade racers are about having a blast with your friends rather than replicating real-world racing. Videos by ComicBook.com Here are the five best arcade racers on the original PlayStation. 5) Destruction Derby 2 The original Destruction Derby put the focus squarely on wrecking your opponents. You can still turn the other cars on the track into metal husks in the sequel, but it introduced more actual racing. The team put a lot of work into modeling real-life crashes, leading to some truly spectacular car-on-car explosions. If you’re looking to smash your enemies to pieces, this is the place to be. Truthfully, the destruction part of Destruction Derby 2 is the highlight of this one. You can have fun in the races, but taking on the aggressive AI in a destruction bowl is a blast. Still, this is very different from most of the other racers on the list, providing players with a nice middle ground between Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo. 4) Need for Speed: High Stakes Some fans might prefer Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, and while that’s a solid racer, I think High Stakes just barely pips it for this list. Granted, it veers ever so slightly closer to being a sim racer, but it’s still holding the arcade banner relatively high. You can just tell EA saw the success Gran Turismo

F1 news: Martin Brundle on Max Verstappen quit rumours – “I’d hugely miss his talent” Martin Brundle discussed Max Verstappen’s future on the latest edition of The F1 Show podcast, where speculation about the Dutchman potentially quitting Formula One was a hot topic. Given rumours suggesting that Verstappen could leave F1 at the end of the season, and with the 28-year-old dipping his toes into other motorsports already, Brundle’s latest comments address his impact on the sport and the likelihood of him actually leaving. Here, Sports News Blitz writer Luca Salmasi takes a closer look at Brundle’s thoughts on a possible Max Verstappen exit. A rare talent “I would hugely miss his talent,” the Sky Sports pundit admitted. “His generational speed and car control is something that very few people in the history of motorsport have ever had. “It’s quite extraordinary.” Nothing lasts forever Brundle added: “I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that, given they were building their own powertrain for the first time, his management would have put in an exit clause at the end of the year to see how it goes. “Mercedes is saying, ‘No, there’s no place at this particular inn at the moment.’ “So, quite what would he do, I don’t know. “Nobody’s indispensable in this business.” READ MORE: F1 opinion: Ferrari are right to be furious, Mercedes’ ‘innovation’ is just legal cheating Walking away isn’t simple With Verstappen linked to other forms of motorsport and looking set to join the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in May, Brundle was asked whether he believed the Dutchman would really consider moving away from F1 and if it could be that straightforward. “I’d be surprised if he’d really walk away from it. Max Verstappen WILL race this weekend after double F1 cancellation Change your timezone: Max Verstappen WILL race this weekend after double F1 cancellation There will be no F1 this weekend Max Verstappen is using the F1 race cancellations to take part in another event to celebrate a significant milestone. Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, F1 will not race in Bahrain or Saudi Arabia in April, with the fourth and fifth rounds being cancelled. They were both scheduled for the weekends of April 10-12 and April 17-19 respectively, but now the next race weekend will be in Miami, which takes place Friday, May 1 through to and including Sunday, May 3. It means there's a five-week break between the Japanese and Miami Grands Prix, but that doesn't mean four-time Max Verstappen won't be in action. It was announced on social media that this weekend on Sunday, April 12, Verstappen Sim Racing (previously known as Team Redline) will host a celebration race on iRacing at the Nurburgring, on the day he was initially supposed to be competing in the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix. Recently, the team reached the milestone of 500,000 followers on Twitch and, with no Bahrain GP this weekend, Verstappen is now free to take part in the sim race instead to celebrate. The race starts at 18:00 CEST (17:00 BST) and can be watched here: twitch.tv/verstappensimracing. A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday. Race A delivers a charmingly British pairing this week: the Ford Sierra RS 500 Cosworth at Brands Hatch on the full GP layout. It’s a great combo on paper, a touring car icon on one of the sport’s most iconic circuits, but Comfort Soft tires take some of the shine off. You’ll be sliding around Paddock Hill Bend on rubber that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence through quick direction changes. It’s a short four-lapper with no tire wear to speak of, so you’re really just managing the lack of grip. Race B puts the Gr.4 field on Grand Valley Highway 1 in reverse, another four-lap sprint but this time on Racing Hard tires. Grand Valley in reverse is a flowing, high-speed layout that tends to reward cars with good straight-line stability, and the lack of a mandatory pit stop means it’s a pure race-pace affair. With no drivetrain restriction, the usual Gr.4 balance questions apply. Race C is where the strategy lives this week: Gr.3 at Suzuka over ten laps with 5x tire wear, 2x fuel consumption, and a mandatory pit stop. Racing Medium is the only tire available, so there’s no strategic compound decisions to make, it’s just a matter of when to pit. At 5x wear, those mediums will be falling off noticeably by the midpoint of a stint, so timing the stop becomes the key variable. Pit too early and you’re vulnerable at the end; pit too late and you’ll be nursing worn rubber through the Esses and 130R while faster cars on fresh tires close in. Suzuka rewards clean, precise driving, so consistency under degradation will separate the field. GT7 Daily Races (April

2026-27 eNASCAR College iRacing Series Tournament Dates Announced April 6th, 2026 by Justin Melillo Mark your calendars! The eNASCAR College iRacing Series powered by PlayVS College League returns for the 2026-27 academic year. While there’s still more to announce in the coming months, what is confirmed are the dates and times. All of the action for the Fall and Spring semesters will continue at the same time on the same night—Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. ET. “With NASCAR and iRacing, we’ve built a series that continues to raise the bar for collegiate competition,” said Charles O’Donnell, Director of PlayVs College League. “Each season brings new energy, new talent, and a deeper level of competition that reflects how far this community has come. For the 2026–27 season, we’re building on that strong foundation with more events and a format designed to deliver even greater intensity and opportunity for our students.” The season expands from six Tournaments to eight in the upcoming season. Tournaments will still consist of a Time Attack, followed by two weeks of racing. Four Tournaments will take place from September to November in the Fall, and the other four for the Spring are scheduled between January and March. Time Attack ranges will also shrink from a 10-day window to just six, from Tuesday to Sunday every week prior to that particular Tournament. “The continued growth of the eNASCAR College iRacing Series is a key part of how we’re building the next generation of talent,” said Ray Smith, Sr. Director of Sim Racing at NASCAR. “By expanding the schedule and increasing opportunities to compete, we’re creating a stronger collegiate pathway for students and schools to develop their skills, represent their programs, and showcase their talents while building a brand within the NASCAR ecosystem.” While there are more details still to
